Considering Japs are probably more familiar with Australian English than other variants it's really not a stretch, and Gele regardless of exact pronunciation is fine.

Translating Jap names is always going to be an iffy affair due to the whole L R thing.

Sengoku Rance is probably the best way to get into the series, it has solid gameplay and there's no real need to know previous events, at the worst you might not understand the relationships behind a few returning characters but it's nothing really you'll pick it up easily enough.
