You call that a race car? THIS is a race car

Came here to post this.

Does this constitute "strange"?

how is that strange what kinda cars do you guys race ?

I ford and jaguar have race vans as well and there may be others
there really should be a league for them

Not really strange, but quite forgotten. The Vector M12 GT2. I've always loved the Vector M12. It looks even better than the already fantastic looking Lamborghini Diablo (on which the Vector M12 is based on)

Minivans aren't exactly ordinary race cars, especially not when they have F1 engines strapped into them

IIRC Jaguar used a Transit with the XJ220 engine just to test the engine in city scenarios without raising suspicion by driving a supercar like the XJ220 through the middle of town and not as a racing concept. Still an awesome idea

...

Shouldn't that thing have a hood spoiler like police cars in japan.

V O L V O

Lemons don't count.

This. Odd but actually good.

hon

>Turbocharged V6 with a 6MT built for Pike's Peak

>tfw no qt MR kei car rebodied with italian styling

...

...

I know it's not really a race car but Imma post it anyway

...

QT

best thing that came out of america.

What the fuck is that, a circus tent on wheels?

It was specifically built to wear down tires, iirc. Basically a tire testing vehicle.

Well shit

>that engine bay

also note the 11th wheel in he center of vehicle

BOXY but good, you mean.

Now isn't a time to be sexy anyway with all these diseases running around.

Holy diddley, that's what that was?

If Frankenstein's monster was a car, this is it

>Old Viper that's still used today
>Probably the only Viper in the world that's converted to use LPG instead of petrol

...

why ? lot of downforce big wheelbase big engine and if you get rid of the shit inside they can even be light

And it gets shit on by LPG shitboxes. I'm not sure if it even finished 24 hours of Nurburgring this year.

This is...something. I kind of want it.

That's not a racecar you funny man. It's just a concept car with enough engineering behind it to drive around, but it can't race anywhere.

This, on the other hand, did.

VLN and the Nürburgring was full of weird cars until about 5 years ago.

the rules actually allowed for pretty much anything on four wheels

plus there weren't 35 GT3 cars having a 24h sprint race running you over on the Döttinger Höhe

although freedom comes with the great responsibility of choosing something worthwile to take on the N24.

Some didn't choose too well

I'm pretty sure the F1 drivetrain used in the Espace F1 actually did race, and quite successfully so.

Gran Turismo doesn't count.
It's an awesome car, but it was never intended for competition.

He means the engine was pulled from a used F1 car before it was in the concept.

anyway, last one. All pics are from the N24 in 2000

Those are interesting choices for a place that's always wet.

...

Oh I misread that, sorry.
But that's what I originally meant, it was a concept car (with a racecar engine) that had some R&D done to actually go fast (which is cool as fuck) but it was never intended to be compete.

anyway, let's post more weird racecars

...

GT300 Prius (Formula Nippon-V8 engine)
Red Pig 600SEL
1950 Cadillac Coupe De Ville "Petit Pataud"
1950 Cadilac Spider "Le Monstre"

...

Do want

Honda Civic Sports Tourer, the first wagon to win a BTCC race

>GT300 Prius
I don't think silhouettes should count.

STAND UP

>tfw no beater v12 jaaaaaag racecar

Fuckin mint.

>Honda Civic Sports Tourer, the first wagon to win a BTCC race
I believe you're forgetting the flying brick.

...

>win

But the Volvo didn't win shit, you fucking faggot.

IMSA was great. If only the geezer running it didn't have that heart operation and fuck it all up right around the same time Group C became pseudo-F1.

people laughed at the idea of a diesel at le mans

>raced at 24h Spa

These are fucking mad

>pigfat 4wd
>everyone laughs
>wins
>everyone shits pants and starts work on designing their own AWD system

...

Looks like a Silvia S14 with the rocket bunny front end and a lift kit

Now this is my kind of thread.

Laughably fast compared to it's competition, but hilariously unreliable.

>TFW Ford, Jeep, Dodge, Nissan, Toyota & Chevrolet all had factory teams

...

Got to love the 80's for strange race cars.

>"What if we put the engine in the cockpit next to the driver?
>"Da Fuck?"
>"Yeah! It'll open up a fuck-ton of space for ground effects."
>"Won't the driver black out from the exhaust gasses and shit though?"
>"... FUCK."

...

...

Dutchfag here, there's quite a few SRT-10 Ram's running LPG around here (pretty much all of them), I'd be surprised if that systen didn't transfer right onto thr Viper.

>Litteraly Trackforum: The Car

...

...

...

Not to mention the engine sitting all the way in front of the front axle, which was great for weight distribution.

Wouldn't that have exteremely shitty weight distribution and a high polar moment of inertia, with all the weight on the sides?

...

The idea was that the ground effect tunnels in the center of the car would produce enough "Groundforce" to offset the extreme weight on the sides... It didn't work because the car produces so much downforce that the chassis would flex.

>"Back in my day, we built racecars out of wood! Because that's all we had! And we LIKED IT."

...

...

Any data/articles on it? Looks interesting, and I wknder why they didn't reinforce the chassis if it was that good at making downforce.

>raced at 24h Nurburgring

Chevy wasn't works, it was some redneck with a dealership. The Toyota was like one truck for one year, not even as good a try as Mitsubishi put in.

>posting racetrucks
>boat captcha

Has JLOC ever won anything?

>Take a shitty 1st-Gen Daytona Prototype
>Stuff a Lexus V8 in the back
>Make it look like a modern Group C2 car and wreck face

Not really. The little info I found on it states that the car tried to run in the 1983 "Can-Am II" series (which by then was a club series full of old Indycars and a few F1s wearing extra bodywork), but failed to qualify by some margin in its only showing (Mosport).

Nope! And we love them all the same.

What year/series is that one from?

North American Tourning Car Championship circa 1996. It featured full-on super-tourers like in Europe, but NASCAR stopped it from gaining any kind of traction.

mini's, 1000cc cars winning at bathurst and in rallying in the 60's

Not really. Nissan rallied 240zs in the early 70's and they're hot tickets in historic rallies today.
