Paying for a tune after getting an intake on an NA car is useless. You don't want to tune an FI car if an intake is all you have either, you'll be wasting money.

Shit, an intake makes the car sound good if anything else. That alone is worth it, imo.

NA engine:
SRI - loses 1-2hp on most engines.
CAI - gains 2-10hp depending on platform. A VQ37VHR will gain 8-10hp with a CAI. An M62B44 will gain 5-8hp with a CAI.

CAI, that is. Where the intake actually grabs cool air and wasn't designed with a ruler.

FI engine:

If the car is moving SRI or CAI will provide gains, with CAI being better. In traffic SRI will suck hot air, the ECU will retard timing, boo.

With an intake alone, it's beneficial but retarded to dyno tune your car just because you have an intake. Especially on an NA platform. AFRs with the CAI alone aren't affected enough to make substantial difference.

With an FI platform, a CAI will give noticeable gains, slightly decrease spool time but to tune for the intake alone or not depends on your platform. If you like money, you'll do all the appropriate mods for "stage" of tune per company that you're shooting for.

If you own an FI car. You still will want to preferably do intake, downpipe plus whatever supporting mods you're shooting for and then tune. An intake alone? Yes, a tune will get the most out of it, but you have to be a special type of retard to waste money on an intake tune alone.

I don't have a VQ, but they actually make an intake with larger piping that requires a MAF tune to function. They're made for the VQ37VHR.

I have owned two HR VQs, VQ35HR and VQ37VHR, but I'm not the guy talking about plenums earlier.

I still stand by my point, though. Intakes rarely come with larger diameter piping because the hassle isn't worth the return.

Also, a change in diameter in the MAF housing is a boo boo that'll need a tune, you should know that. You're the retard that thinks it won't right? There's a lot of retards here, sorry if you're the other retard.

I have a 9th gen Si K24 engine, and from experience as well as extensive research on forums I've found that pretty much every aftermarket intake made for this car will eventually cause a CEL and knock without a Hondata tune.
However, I have owned cars in the past that have ran with CAI's without any issue (though I doubt they actually made any power)
