Engine swap cost of labor

Has anyone here paid a shop to do an engine swap with an existing kit before?

I'm interested in buying a e36 m3 shell and swapping a lightly worked over 302 into it using the e36v8 kit found here: e36v8.com/

Seems like I could buy a decent chassis with no engine for around $2k, and a worked over 302 + t5 transmission for another $3-4k.

So the parts themselves seem pretty cheap, but what about the cost of labor to install? How much do you guys think it'll cost?

Almost no shop would touch the job to begin with. Of those that will, most are probably not that good and haven't done it that many times, or else they would have learned their lesson already. The only reasonable way is to find a shop (or guy) that only does one kind of swap into one kind of car, so he knows it inside and out and doesn't have to spend 75% of the time (with you paying the shop rate) figuring out how to make it work then troubleshooting it later. These shops do exist, but they are very rare, and very expensive.

About a quarter ounce of good weed, a 12pk of burrs (no twist-offs) and a fifth of Jameson.

Assuming you know the right people.

I would say this for other shit, not dropping a 302 in a bimmer tho

There are shops that do this and do it well. Cost is another issue, though...

there's a kit with detailed instructions though here though: e36v8.com/

wouldn't that make things a lot easier?

Then why don't you just do it yourself you fucking pussy

>302 into an e36
JUST FUCK ME UP
Seriously though, that's not going to be common know how...

I agreed in my post, I know of a few, there's a Jaguar swap specialist and a guy who does newer BMW engines into 2002s in my area. I'm sure either shop you would end up spending 2-3x the cost of the shell, drivetrain, and parts on labor.

Depends how good the kit is, chances are it's not very good, only the highest quality aftermarket parts pop right in like you are imagining. At shops I've worked at it's generally assumed it's going to take at least 50% longer with non-cosmetic aftermarket parts than with OEM. With something major like that you aren't just going to put it together and drive out of the shop, there's going to be missing pieces, unexpected complications, and a lot of the time is going to be troubleshooting it after the install. If you came to me and asked me to do it I could just make some solid engine and trans mounts, use some shitty cast manifolds for clearance, put a fuel cell in the trunk since the in tank fuel injection pressure level pump is no good for a carb'd engine, leave a bunch of stuff on the car that no longer functions, have none of the dash working and most of the electronics dysfunctional, no A/C or heat, and be able to drive the car in a few days. A clean install that looks like a proper car in the end is going to be 5x as much work, that's the challenge of any swap.

thats what i was thinking lol just drop a LS

Fucking y tho. Are you going for the title of gayest conversion of all time?

Bruh, find a S54 in a junkyard and drop it in. Fuck a 302

It'll be way cheaper and probably be faster if you swap an SR20 or something into it. At least do an LS if you're gonna v8 swap it you cum gargler

>Going out of your way to do it to a E36 M3 shell

Or you could...just do it to a regular E36 shell for $400-600. Not like a US S52 is a whole lot of money these days, $2000 gets you a decent low mileage engine. Put it into a 318ti if you really want it to move (300-500lbs lighter).

A S54 E36 is a pretty complicated swap, what makes you think a 100% working 5.0 swap will be easy?

Never have truer words been spoken.
Unfortunately, there's too many retards here that can't differentiate real life from Forza.

I just want to swap a 4agze into my ae92 and twin charge it

Just do it yourself.

>You'll save a fuck ton of money
>You'll finally buy tools (we all know you don't have any)
>You'll actually learn things

get a normal e36, 5.3 ls junkyard engine and do it yourself
although it will be an auto unless you want to dump a bunch of money into a manual trans for it
