On a scale of 1 to mc-fucking kill yourself, how bad of an idea is it to shove a 1GZ-FE (not a 1JZ, A 1GZ V12) into one of these?

Authenticity be damned. Once I get one of these it's not going anywhere else until the day I or it dies, so resale value is a non-issue.

I'd like to shove my 1GZ-FE into one of those

up yours too buddy

It's FWD, so good luck getting everything to work.

Also you're a massive idiot if you decide to get rid of the hydropneumatics.

Of course I wouldn't get rid of the hydro.

Though now that I think about it FWD is definitely an issue. Maybe an Audi A8 engine would better accommodate the platform, since those came in front-wheel drive?

What other engines are silky-smooth but still put out decent horsepower?

FUCK YOU
FWD IS TRASH

Are you sure you'd want to fuck around with this? I mean, it looks like a bigger engine would be very hard to fit since everything's so cramped, and I'm pretty sure the gearbox is mounted in front of the engine so that'd introduce length limitations for the engine as well.

Though, I wouldn't be above changing out the stock SM hydros for something later, like Xantia or C6 hydros, if those fit (since A: more parts and B: self-leveling)

Fuck you, this car is a cruiser, not a track star. FWD is just fine for it's purpose.

I bet you'll be salty I'd probably get it in automatic too, faggot.

Huh, it didn't occur to me before how tiny the engine actually is. I'll have to rethink this a bit...

>FWD can't track and it can't race,only cruise.
Hah, thanks for the ammo

if it has a trans tunnel you could possibly just about fit it.

Any reason you want to get rid of the already high performance Maserati engine that's in an SM? Also if the hydraulic pumps work like they do on a Rolls Royse (Rolls licensed the Citroën suspension), then the pumps are in the block and run off the camshaft. Making a replacement system would be rather difficult.

It's way too much work for what you get. The SM is a grand tourer, not a sports car.

The main reason is to avoid the Maserati reliability that comes with the engine, as well as to source parts easier. (Whether or not the Toyota parts are JDM, they'd still be easier to find than old Maserati parts). The other is the uniqueness factor, and possibly helping the car do better at it's job (cruising smoothly at speed).

Knowing how fuckhuge the Century's engine actually is, though (an IS200's bay is about the smallest area you can fit it in as far as I've seen, and is quite snug in a Supra), ESPECIALLY compared to the Maser V6, it seems like that's completely off the table.

I can see the parts sourcing problem, as for reliability I've always been of the thought that all engines can be reliable if properly maintained.

But keep this in mind, how much is it going to cost you in parts, time, ect. to custom fabricate everything needed to swap an engine into the SM and keep the hydro-pneumatic suspension working. It may in the end be cheaper and easier to keep the Maserati engine and keep it maintained.

There's heaps of stuff you could do to make it more easily serviced. Convert to a modern ECU, use coil on plugs and injectors from something like a Corolla.

I think you're looking at mc-fucking kill yourself, boss.

This isn't Forza, you can't go round slapping V12's into anything and everything and calling it a day.

It would require absurdly huge amounts of engineering of the whole vehicle to get it safe and strong, which is ignoring the question of whether the engine would even fit in the bay to begin with.

You'd need to redo just about everything mechanical on the car, and you'd probably lose the hydropneumatic suspension in the process.

tl;dr no and do not ruin an SM trying

>1GZ-FE

Why? It barely makes 300HP.

What car is this? It's Fucken sexy tbqh

Autism speaks.

sage

>i want summer to go

Cause /silkehsmooth/, is why.

Besides, they can make a hell of a lot more than that.

Fair enough. Any other recommendations for swaps that are similarly smooth?

Porsche flat six

It's possible. I've seen a Citroen DS somewhere with an Art Morrison chassis and an LS V8, so I think a V12 swapped SM should be possible.

It would mean completely losing it's hydro system. Not a bad thing for it's reliability, but you'd be left with a boring french shitbox with a FWD V12.

Audi engine wouldn't help, those had the engine in front of the axle instead of behind it like the SM.

flip it round durr

Just hammer out the firewall a bit.
