QTDDTOT/SQT - Stupid questions thread

>questions that don't deserve their own thread/general auto questions.

Anyways to my question.. i'm fixing some surface rust on car. i've sanded down to bare metal, should i put primer on and then body filler over (with a bit of sanding ontop of primer before putting on body filler), or just put body filler ontop without primer?
will it hold good with primer and then body filler?

I have mud all over the carpet in the boot of my car. Said carpet is mounted on fibreboard.
I know, I should have used a plastic sheet to shield it, but nothing stops that much fucking mud. It was like the fucking somme out there.

How do I wash it without fucking up what it's glued to?

What's a sporty enough shitbox I could DD for less than 10k?

What's a good reliable and preferably fun and reasonably safe wagon for maximum $4k?

Ibiza cupra

Never heard of the manufacturer. Seeing all the UK stuff in the results I fear it's unattainable because of Burger law. But I'll look into it.

Altima SE-R, Sentra SE-R, G35 6mt (coupe or sedan, sport package preferred), 350Z, Cobalt SS, Saab 9-5 Aero, and many more.

Thoughts on Mazdaspeed6? Need a new car soon, seems like fun and not stupidly impractical.

How the fuck can i get a brake disc off? According to the manual its tightened to 23Nm and uses loctite. 3 6mm allen key bolts hold in place.

So far i tried banging it with a hammer and wd40

>1992 Chevy S10

>when accelerating sometimes hear a slow, hard rattle

On m RX-8, I need to hold down the DSC button for 7 seconds to turn off the traction control. Is there a way to modify it so I can turn it off with one click?

i owned an ms6 for years, what do you wan to know

What are the first few things I should know when I'm going to drive a car for the first time?

A driving license is needed for my new job to get a higher salary.

watch the wheels/tires of cars rather than the actual bodies of the cars

your mind is better at comprehending small spaces and moving objects rather than larger ones

are these at all legit? they look similar to whats on my pickup now (pic), but I'm not too sure.

Is turbo diesel just a diesel with a conventional turbo for forced induction or some other system entirely?

It says stupid questions, not retarded questions.

im pretty sure its just a regular turbo

should I get a crz? what's a car like this but less gay? (no miata)

you guys have any thoughts on straight pipe exhaust systems?

i want to replace my muffler and resonator with straight pipes rather than buy an expensive exhaust system

i know i'll need to replace the cat to get significant performance gains but this seems like a good start and i'd like to improve my exhaust noise over stock

i cant really see why people would drop a few grand on exhausts when its just some piping

>sport hybird
>less gay
glwt

How do I jack up my car and ensure my body doesn't go splat on the concrete?

ya dont buy that car

is fuel economy/reasonably priced car your main concern because there are many cars in that category

or are you looking for cars that size, like coupes?

use jack stands

then take off your wheels and slide them under your car just in case

also make sure its level ground

Regular turbo.

99â„… of modern diesel vehicles are turbo because diesel alone does not produce much power at all.

>significant performance gains
Unless your car is well known to have a horribly restrictive exhaust you won't see much gain from stock
If you do have a horribly restrictive stock exhaust you will need to retune the ECU to get good gains

>improve exhaust noise
It will be louder yes. Not always an improvement though.

>expensive exhausts
Because many after market exhausts in the price range you are thinking of come with new performance manifolds and are made from stainless steel that's harder to bend and weld. Also bends in exhausts have to be mandril bent to retail their circular cross section.

What the hell is this?

just looking for a nice mid budget coupe that won't get laughed at

Idk read your owners manual

Make/model/year?

Check ac system is not over pressurised
Apart from that may be ac compressor bearing fault but typically that's accompanied by other noises

cruise control?

I need some help finding out the appropriate tire inflation pressure for my tires. The sticker in the car says the tire size dimensions should be P175/70R13 82S and the front tires should be at 32 PSI, while the rear ones should be 29 PSI. The problem is the car has 185/70R13 86T tires in the front.

The problem is your truck doesn't have much power in the first place and your AC compressor is old and from the R12 days. Given that you probably have a huge power draw that your compressor takes to even spin the thing.

It's just old and tired but if it still works don't fix it.

victoria.craigslist.ca/ctd/5605685240.html

How this?

It's a company truck so there's no manual and the cruise is on the steering wheel.

probably some sort of differential lock

Should I set the idle first, then the timing?
Or should I set the timing first, then the idle?

Without altering the ECU? Probably not.

Its probably the same, I would go with 32, itll stiffen them up and give a bit better gas mileage.

Also sorry about your tire sizes.

What do you guys think about this? Should i get one? Not a richfag.

Anyone familiar with Lancer Sportbacks? I found one at a dealer for $11,XXX with 100,000~ miles on it. Are they reliable to DD? Would it be a good idea to buy this or will it cost more than it's worth in repairs should it break down?

It's in an armored truck if that helps any. A Chevrolet cab with the duramax engine.

What primer are you using?

Epoxy filler can go ontop of primer, while just about any other type of filler should go on the bare metal

If you've removed all the bolts and you're sure nothing is holding it back; sledgehammer. The fuckers can sit fucking HARD

If you're planning on reusing the rotor; put a block of wood into the brake disc so that you dont hit the metal directly with the sledge. If you still need more power then you can try "balancing" the piece of wood ontop of another piece of wood on one end, while the other rests on the cap that covers the wheel bearing, as then you'll be free to use your tard strength

Also make sure that, if its on the rear, that the parking brake shoes aren't slightly engaged and is holding it

Google the vehicle + year, and find the user manual¨

Did you even grind and neutralize the rust before you did that?

I did, but didn't grab a photo. Its the third time I did it on this car so its not longer really an option, as the steel is now so thin that in a few spots I've gone through to the cork-like material inside of the steel

Its just to make it look "acceptable" before selling it, the fenders, doors and so on will have to be replaced if one wants it rust-free

Was detailing a car to sell it, noticed some bits were missing. Anyone know what bolt I need to secure the gas pedal in place, and what nut do I need for the seats, since 1/6 was missing on the driver's seat. Car is a 98 LeSabre. Do you think Vatozone would have them?

Let it dry, then vacuum up the loose bits. Use a dry nylon brush meant for household cleaning and scrub the rest off. It should get it clean enough.

Timing, then idle, then recheck timing. Repeat if necessary, but never let timing stray. It is more important than idle.

CRX is better.

Take lessons. You could have a friend or family member teach you, but chances are you'll pick up their bad habits.

What the fuck are you smoking? I want some.

Stop using words wrong. Straight pipe means there's no cat. Also you'll probably sound like a faggot if you remove the mufflers.

What truck is it, dingus?

I'm looking to buy a 1985 MK2 Toyota Supra in the UK. Unfourtantly all the ones that I can find online are in automatic or are absolute ship heaps. Does anybody have any tips and tricks on finding these cars and getting the owner to sell it?

I was thinking about just importing instead but you just cant trust somebody you have not met face to face.

Why are you insisting that it be an '85? autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201605254293108
Finding a postcode to use on that site took longer than finding that car.

I thought about getting a MK3 but I just much prefer the look of the MK2. However the MK3 is much more common in the UK so they are a lot easier to find.

Bought synthetic blend high milage oil by mistake (I just buy the cheapest stuff I can find for this truck it leaks and burns oil) how much of a problem should I expect.

Hey Veeky Forums. How's $4900 for a BMW 740 (pic related)? 80,000 miles.

I have a 2002 subaru outback LLbean edition. Bought it used in mostly excellent condition (few dents, electronic magic rear view mirror didn't work, and a few cracks on the plastic in the center console). I recently ticked it over 180,000 miles, and I'm starting to smell a bit of what I believe to be antifreeze burning. I've heard about this, and subaru's problems with headgaskets in the past.

My question is, assuming it's not just a leaky hose (haven't diagnosed that yet), and is actually a gasket, how balls deep do I want to go with this? Just replace the gasket, or take it to a specialist and get the engine fully rebuilt, cleaned and pretty?

I honestly know nothing about how the other parts on these engines hold up, so I figure, if it's at all likely that there is something wrong, or soon to be wrong, with the crankshaft, or anything else, I may as well bite the bullet and get it done now. This car has been great, and I'd love to keep it till 250-300,000.

Hey all

Got this deep-ass scratch on my car. Goes through the paint and serrated the panel itself a bit too. I messaged a detailer to see if he could do something, and all said and done he told me it would be $550 to fix it, detail the exterior, vacuum the interior, and apply a layer of CQuartz.
Am I getting ripped off? Should I just go to a body shop to get it fixed, or is a detailer fine?

Pic related, the scratch in question (The white in between the panels).

Anyone know the make of this truck? I can't make it out.

That's a Toyota with an LS-1 swap.

>Have 1990 Volvo 240.
>Manual calls for Dot 4.
>Have 1998 LS400

Can I use Dot 4 in the Lexus, do I have to flush all old fluid if it currently has dot 3?

Thanks.

If I de-cat my 2013 car will it throw codes even if the pipe has the mounts for the sensors and they're hooked up?

I'm trying to decide between a 2008 Civic ex or a Mazda3 S sport. Which is the better car? I've driven the Honda fit, if that matters, and I hated how disconnected from the road you are when steering. Which would be more reliable? I'm looking at some around the 100k mile range.

Yes

Bump.

Is there any way to get rid of them without a reflash? Could I just get a code reader and clear it?

it's 'polyester resin' filler. the parts atm i'm just filling so they don't come back, aswell to make it look like there hasn't been any rust there (it's in the floor area of car) so it looks better for when i try get it registered. they're in the interior too
is fibreglass filler best to use for any parts? i haven't used it yet, but the polyester one i've used is easy to shape and make it 'look' better, but i've read it's not as durable

So my wheels aren't wide enough/don't have a low enough offset to fill the fenders.
Spacers are a deathtrap, but are extended control arms any better? Will it fuck up my car?
1996 Miata

People use polyester resin a lot to make shapes from moulds and so on for the reason of exactly that; being easy to shape. Not as solid as you'd want when put ontop of metal tho, especially metal that might corrode slightly more and make it lose the "grip" it has. I'd suggest going fibreglass

I've used Plastic Padding Fibreglass Filler in the past on other cars with good results, and currently using it to patch up my trailer before painting it over, and that shit is durable as all hell

What does a wooly gear change mean?

It means you feel sheepish after fucking it up that badly

it describes wool
much like how some older gear shifts were described as being like stirring a box of coals

Is it gay to paint my hood black instead of real cf?

Nah senpai

No, but it's a better idea to plastidip it, wrap it, or buy a spare black one. No need to ruin a color-matching vehicle with permanent black paint.

Nope, when people can't find a cf hood for a tofu mobile replica, they paint it black gloss

I never looked into plastidip before. I didn't know it was reversible. Thanks for the tip senpai.

I need help with rims, I found a set of five lug cragers for my project car, the guy selling them said he pulled them off of his duster, my question is are dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth car rims the same as ford 5 lug rims? Pic related. (Rims in question and my project car)

Looks like you got lucky. Mopar mostly uses the same size as Ford, and Chebby/GM is the odd one.

Thanks man

Forgot to say, you could have him measure it if you want to be sure.

careful not to dox yourself mr. wange

Somewhat newfag, unfamiliar with the doc term. What does it mean? Also Mr wange?

Looking for a manly looking car with good gas mileage.

Budget is 5k give or take

Can't drive stick

Going to check out a 200sx this week. Any protips? Is there anything in this particular model that I should pay more attention to, like rust under the wing or some other gimmicky stuff?

posted in last thread but didn't get a solid answer. soooo.....

how much life does this tire have based on its appearance? or how likely will it blow while I'm driving?

Which one guys? I have a Ford Focus 2003 173000 miles. I got the OEM filter but can't decide on the oil.

Lexus LS400/Toyota Celsior, gas mileage isnt superb though

fender, spoiler, and sunroof rust

dont run that shit on the highway, by those cracks on the sidewall it could blowout any time

Pls Veeky Forums

Passat, audi, subaru, volvo. Various engine options turbo and not for all listed brands

Bump

literally makes no difference.

For a 173k mi car, get whatever's cheaper.

What's the logic behind this? I did an oil change last week and put conventional in it. The engine almost sounds like it's dying.

Ok no trolling. What's the smallest amount of ground clearance I need to drive in the city? I'm find with light scraping. But I actually want to be able to up garage ramps and shit.

Depends on the car, some have lower bumpers, and bumpers that protrude out further than others.
