I bought an RX-8.. how fucked am I?

I bought an RX-8.. how fucked am I?

>Only harsh criticism please
>Bonus points for the worst

lets just say you should have asked that question before you bought one.

but you didnt buy one so it doesnt matter anyway.

bump

If you wanted a shitposting thread, you shoulda just started shitposting.
Rx8s are great cars

i'm bored

Just swap a 13b, there are dime moda you can do to the renesis to make it more reliable aswell

The ignition system was what caused all the problems with the early models. They sell kits that fixes the problem and is actually a really nice upgrade.

The handling characteristics are amazing, even though it's a 3,000lbs

The powerband is very linear. So, unlike variable valve timing/lift, or boost, there is no sudden "woo! theres my power!", it's more of "well... i'm gradually increasing power in correlation to my rpm". It's also very low on torque. But you can fix all this with a supercharger or turbocharger.

They look pretty cool with the proper bodykit (your pic related).

They have a really good aftermarket. check out good-win-racing.com, racing beat, and other mazda specialists.

Focus on reducing unspring and rotational mass, and it brings out the best in the car.

Whats the deal with the warranty engine replacements on these cars?

The RX8 is like the younger brother who took up lacrosse instead of following in his brother's footsteps and playing football like everyone expected him to.

Remember to premix oil into your fuel and she will last quite a bit longer before needing that inevitable engine rebuild. Also don't kill the engine until she has been running for like 5 minutes or you will flood it.

Threadly reminder; wankels are garbage tier engines.

Different =! Better

have your fun with it, when your apex seals shit out ls swap it.

Heavy but great handling car. Mazda went really far for its suspension

pushrod cucks need not to apply

How does the RX-8 compare to the S2000?

you could probably go full cuck and swap an LS in an rx8 for the price of an s2000 with similar mileage

you should be a man and drop a 20b in it tho

Enjoy your low torque poor mpg oilburner with it's shit apex seals.

its not a bmw

Can an LS even fit in an rx8?

Mazda chassis > Honda Chassis

Both engines produce similar power, both have 9k redlines (AP1).

no, it won't fit, so don't even try, don't waste your time and go directly for a 20b or 13b swap

all the pictures you see on the internet are photoshopped

Kill yourself

You don't have an rx8 delete this trash thread

You can stop that shit where you make a statement that hits home :/

>400 HP and no torque
>300 HP for about 10000 miles
>550 HP and it still has the stock rotating assembly

is this what pushrods cucks actually belive?

Nice car OP! I'm jealous.

>shitbox and also rotary
This car is kind of amazing in it's own way.

/thread

I wish I could filter out rx-8 from cars on sale search results. So many people are trying to sell them.

What wheels and body kit is that? I can't seem to find the info anywhere.

Nice car dude. Butter smooth rotary engine and great handling.
>10/10

Literally none in my area maybe one

Not that low on torque considering its displacement. Also, the high redline is there for a reason.

Favorite thing about the rotary engine oohs that the redline is actually for the transmission not the engine itself the engine red line is at like 12k

!=

have fun with the shitbox beeping at you

>=!

!= =!

What year?
The earlier engines are pretty fucked

1.3?

Well, here they gained some traction and Miata didn't because lolroof and they were imported officially by Mazda (unlke normal right-side-wheel nip sports cars). They're usually regarded as a pretty car for chicks, but some poor bastards bought them because it's kind of like an rwd sports car. And now so many people are trying to sell them, but who the fuck would want to buy those? Typical offers (among first 10):

>I only used the car on weekdays, it's totally fine guys I swear
>no compression in the second section
>the engine was rebuilt at 120000 km
>can still go 50000 until rebuild
>the engine was replaced at 112000
>engine replaced for Lada Priora engine with turbo installed

ABORTION OF NIPPON MOTOR INDUSTRY

That can't be right. Look at where Mini is.

No, it's not ever been done a million times you cuck.

My neighbor has an FC RX7 with 250k on it, he's never done the apex seals. Maybe you guys are fucking something up?

rx-8s were pretty bad reliability-wise from the factory. much more so than earlier n/a rotaries.

""""""""""1.3"""""""""""

There's plenty in my shithole, but only auto-tragic. Was thinking of getting one as an alternative to an S2K (since none arrived to this country), but can't find any decent manual. And yeah, it's obvious norms are trying to get rid of them.

>I-it's a classic

I own an fc. Rotaries are easy asf to work on and take care of, just make sure you keep up with regular maintenance. Oil changes, plugs, premix if you want too, use distillee water 50/50 for cooling

The renesis is gay as aids with its shitty side port exhaust though. Gets fucking super hot and roasts internals in one spot. Peripheral port exhaust is a million times better but sucks for emmisions.

Don't forget to top off the oil every 2 weeks.

If it didn't have a rotary engine a 5k rx8 would cost 10k. If you can maintain them or you you saved sove money for the apex seals they are great but obviously dd one is not a great idea so if its your only car I hope you like taking the bus.

From what I understand the ignition sudden had issues specifically the coil's which then was commonly misdiagnosed as engine failure and thus the engine was replaced with reman's but the quality control on the first reman's where terrible so rx-8 got a real shitty rep that and the fact that overheating and normal operation was within the margin of error for the coolant temp needle (literally what the fuck )

>rx8 delete
sounds like a really cool mod. How do you do it?

Why are these easy to find for really really cheap?
Do they have a glaring fault of some sort?
Could someone elaborate plz

RX-8 is a lot more practical, S2k is a bit lighter and faster.

With proper maintenence they are both reliable, but without good maintenance the RX-8 is a timebomb.

Both cars handle extremely well.

im pretty sure this has been posted before

>that and the fact that overheating and normal operation was within the margin of error for the coolant temp needle (literally what the fuck )
Did they ever fix this?

Renesis block has cooling issues.
if you are thinking of track day, bring marshmellow

you'll notice most of them are 2004 models, taken care of super shitly and have engine problems.
09 r3 master race

No

very nice, shame about the stancefaggotry

ja

I would drop small can of two stroke oil in fuel tank after every fillup.

jesus, that actually improved it

This fits though

...

Kek can you not buff up the gearbox so you can brap to infinity like a rotary should

...

Or this GM 3.0 V6

Or this VAG AEB 1.8T

delet

I don't know but I don't think so. I know the rx 8 club recommends using an ob2 reader to get temps from the ecu and I think an aftermarket thermostat but if you really wanna know check out the new owner sticky on the site

Guys WTF?!

Are you seriously talking about ruining an RX-8?

Wankel motor is the main thing that makes RX-8 an RX-8!

Replacing it with round piston engine is biggest dishonor you can do to that car!

He actually posted a thread with this exact same picture asking if he should buy an rx8 like a week ago or so

2.6 actually.

so how come you can only fit 1.3 liters inside the engine?

It gets one combustion cycle per rotation. Fourstrokes get one per two rotstions. This effectively doubles it's displacement and power output.

>biggest dishonor will improve its performance in every single way
>also it won't blow up if you get low on oil

>its somehow the rotary's fault that piston engines can only make power every two crank revolutions

>also it won't blow up if you get low on oil
kek, confirmed busrider, you will do a lot more damage on a piston engine running low on oil than on a rotary

I'd love to see an RX-8 with a 2.3 DISI turbo out of an MPS. Iirc Mazda even did some prototypes or concept cars with those. Given hoe good that engine works in the Mustang, it'd be amazing in the RX-8.

>LS
Kinda good. At leadt you're not ruining an RX-7.

>2JZ
Iron block six cilinder over the front axle - WHY. unless you're making a straight line race machine, this makes little sense.

>GM 3.0 V6
Which one?

>1.8 20v turbo
Not bad. I wonder how they managed the transmission on that.

Captcha: 283
No, we're not putting a 1st eneration, iron block SBC in.

And triples its fuel consumption.

My RX8's got, at best, 14mpg in town. 12 more commonly.
My Z/28 with an LS7 gets 15 in town, while producing actual power and torque.

Emissions laws killed any viability the rotary engine had, much like the 2stroke.

It's not the rotary's fault of course. It's just that way. Not bad, not good, you just have to correct for it in racing.

fule consumption is bad due to the fact that mazda did not implemented his atkinson technology used for the hydrogen into the rx-8

>I'd love to see an RX-8 with a 2.3 DISI turbo out of an MPS. Iirc Mazda even did some prototypes or concept cars with those. Given hoe good that engine works in the Mustang, it'd be amazing in the RX-8.

its called "mazdaspeed miata"

MPS Miata:
>1.8 turbo
>port injection
>0.6 Bar of boost at best
>cast iron block
>178hp

MPS 2.3 DISI Turbo:
>2.3 turbo
>direct injection
>0.9-1.0 bar stock, up to 1.2 bar in current Ford applications
>aluminium block
>263hp stock

Also, current Ecoboost version of the 2.3 turbo are making 320 to 350hp.

Also also, the RX-8 and the Miata aren't really in the same market.

The transmission on the 1.8T is from Audi S8 IIRC. Tuned up to 335HP and 414Nm. My dad's friend-mechanic built it. He swapped the 3.0 V6 as well. I think it's the one used in Opel Omega MV6. 235HP, 305Nm

Not exactly the cheapest choice then, but it'll hold up to whatever he'll build with that 20vT.

An Omega V6 is a really wierd choice though. Theres dozens of other V6 engines he could've gone for, and he chose a really wierd one with a very limited aftermarket. If I had to put in a V6, it'd have been something like a Busso or VR6.

lacrosse is more fun
>not playing both though
one is autumn the other is spring, not like you can't
