Try to see at least one hero of each category you enjoy to fit around what your team needs. Not all heroes of the category serves the same function (EX: Winston, a Tank, is more of a flanker and squishy killer than a pusher/actual tank), try to learn that.
If you never played TF2, Quake or other kind of games like that, beware of people coming from above and just showing up from behind from what is seems out of nowhere.
If you are playing a non-support character that can support your team like Zarya with her barriers and Soldier: 76 with the healing field, go on the options menu so you can see allies health bars when you are playing with those characters. All support characters have that by default so don't worry about them.
