How do I improve as Samus in Sm4sh? I really like the character.

I play on 3DS because no WiiU, sometimes press to jump gives me a long jump instead of a short hop on Samus.

My Zair game is garbage.

I can't ledge trump into reverse charged shot for the life of me, fast enough. And sometimes I get missiles instead. Am I pressing B too fast after flicking?

How do you do the repeating first jab? A into Down into A over and over?

Tell me your best Samus strats. I've only been playing Smash for 2 years, and my experience is Smash 4 and Project M, so anything helps.

Don't use tap jump, go into training mode and get used to do shorthops

You will get better with time, maybe you just need to figure out the timing to use it.

For any reverse move: first press the action button then the direction
Again: exercise this, you won't be able to do it consistently on your first attempts

In my experience you will improve the more you go to locals, of course same goes for online matches but keep in mind online will always feel slightly different from offline depending on the connection

Don't get discouraged, the more you play the better you will become.
I suggest you save replays of matches where you got destroyed so you can figure out your bad habits.

Maybe upload them on youtube or webm them if you have the option and post it here, we might be able to help figure out your flaws

I've already been learning how to not roll as often unless I'm in deep shit.

I also have a lot of trouble air dodging online. Is it input lag? How many frames of lag are generally in an online match? Does it just vary?

Spacing is extremely important, even more with low tier characters

Samus has the worst roll in game, you are better off not relying on it. Powershield and maybe spotdodge are better options.

Maybe you just get read too easy. That's why I suggested you upload a video if possible so we can be certain.

Well keep in mind that the 3ds has no option of cable internet, you rely on wireless lan which adds lag by default, this is why most wii u players stick with the wii u version

Sure, when I play online again I'll get the replay. Perhaps I'm air dodging too late. A few weeks ago I began noticing that I tended to DI towards the opponent, for some dumb reason. I don't now and just try to find the stage, but my opponent normally finds me when I'm trying to fast fall and air dodge out of the way. So maybe there are things I'm doing that I'm not aware that's getting me killed.

Well it depends. Of course if there is too much input lag it makes little sense, if you're playing for fun you don't care for these things

real quick, i have a list of complaints for melee that are legitimate and make me not want to play the game in favor of smash 4 and PM
>game is super heavy; you have to hold the stick for a few frames to get a dash, lest you get a pivot, and there are random times where i swear i am doing things but they're just not happening because the game wants you to hold the button you press
>tap jump, ruins multiple things simply by pressing 3 degrees upward on the control stick

and if you say "oh just get used to it" you've already seen why i don't want to play this game

Someone should explain how a stage with a constant moving platform and said platform brings you closer to the blast zone is good stage design because it really isn't.

It's risk/reward. You can defeat your enemies eaiser by attacking them there, but you're at risk of being KO'd easier yourself if you engage on those regions. Perfectly acceptable and tactical.

Maps imo don't need to be and generally shouldn't just be symmetrical blobs to remain balanced. The problem is a lot of Sm4sh maps have actively disruptive elements that add too much randomness to the strategy. Ridley and the Dark Lord, for example, and other random stage hazards are what should get a stage banned, not just things being non-static.

better than the rising platforms that star KO you on some stages but not others
