The more I think about how much time I spent playing Path of Exile, the more I get depressed. I probably spent more than 5k hours playing this game at this point, and that's a conservative estimation. Sure, I had fun for a while, but what do I have to show for it at the end of the day? Nothing. All my Standard wealth means nothing. All my mtxs mean nothing. All my race rewards mean nothing. I could have accomplished things, done well at school, mastered a skill, got in shape, learn a new language. But no. All I've done is waste my time playing a repetitive, dull, skinner box trading simulator that no longer offers me any joy. And I will repeating the cycle.

I think that a $10 entry fee for the leagues would actually make the game better. Standard and HC/Standard could remain free, but the challenge leagues would be buy-in. Not pay to win. Pay to play. You could have waivers given out for people who seriously couldn't afford $10 who did good by GGG in other ways, or won them in competitions/raffles.

Support from me has dropped... simply because I no longer place any value on anything that can be purchased. Put a $ in front of something I'd participate in and you'd take my money with my thanks.

I look at a business model like GGGs and wonder at lost revenue simply because someone wants to pay but doesn't want the hassle and isn't motivated by the rewards attached. They're out there. I'm one of them. I just see the sparkly stuff that everyone seems to love to deck out their characters in as a drawback rather than a bonus. Don't want it. I've got about $250 worth of stash tabs... way more than I could ever use. Looking for ideas for further income that would "make sense" to me.

But in the end, you're just as trapped as I am, slaving away at an online trading simulator just to make enough money to get by. That's not true, learning a skill or acquiring knowledge is generally permanent, though you may need to refresh your memory from time to time. If I spent 5k hours learning Japanese instead of playing PoE I could be a fluent translator by now. What skills do you learn by playing PoE? The skill of messaging 10 afk players within 20 seconds?

Daily reminder than POE is not an Isometric game.

If you think about it though 100% leech gets less and less effective as your damage goes up. Assuming you have 6k health and 3% leech (assuming leech gem), that's only 200k damage.

Then you have another 2% conditional leech on kill, and .6% leech from boots, 2% from Atziri Flask, that's only 79k damage. Then you can have more leech from belt and warlord's mark etc.

AND, this is assuming you're not getting one shotted with Aspect of Carnage. For comparison, I play an 8.5k EA. I'm either full life or 0% 95% of the time.

I'm not saying you should listen to me right now, but you should mess around with the Ascendancy. The War Bringer passive's amazing, especially for leveling cause it gives mana too. It's effectively 12.5% regen for any shouts.

I want to try making a farming bot. It seems like it will be undetectable if the game can't detect the bot program (since you have your own instance map). I Googled some interesting posts on "that website" and it seems the developers say they actually catch hundreds/thousand botters a day. How do they even catch someone in their instance map?

No joke. PoE has one of the most global and unique communities I've ever experienced for an online game. Like any community, we have our ups and downs, yet we're still here; thriving and growing.

Respect and Understanding

We may have our disagreements and arguments, but we still respect each other after the firestorm. Online gaming forums are notorious for 1337 attitudes and disrespect, but someone we manage to hit the rest button on any angst we encounter. Wonderful moderation and a forgiving community make that possible. In the end people understand not to attack each other, just attack the topics.

My personal example: had a heated exchange with a member over many posts, but then reached out to him in PMs, where our pride didn't have to be challenged in public. Great guy, got to chat with him some more. We're from completely different geographical regions and mindsets on the game, yet we were able to bridge that gap. Forgive and forget.
