Old thread will autosage soon Old thread here - >I am able to run US/Canadian VINs (anything with a fitting VIN; bikes, cars and so on) and US plates. For plates the same rules apply as VINs; 1981 or newer, US registered, and the plate and state are needed. Plates do work most of the time, but VINs are more reliable. >Please remove hyphens (dashes) from VINs/plates - unless they happen to be part of a vanity plate. This makes copying and pasting easier. >I can only run vehicles in/originally in the USA/Canada. If they've been exported from the USA/Canada, a report with their time here will be available. Not yet sure about imported cars. >Vehicles need to be of the 1981 model year or newer. That's when standardized VINs began. Anything older simply cannot be run for a report. >There are never I(i), O(o), nor Q(q) in VINs. This is to avoid confusion with 1 and 0. So if you are unsure, it is always 1 or 0 (not the case for classic cars, but they cannot be run anyway). >VINs must be 17 characters exactly. No more, no less. >If you want the PDF-file you can open the page source (F12) and search "amazonaws", copy the whole link and put it in your browser. This should allow you to download the PDF. If its not working send me an email at [email protected]. Please leave a reply if you do so
>WP0CA2A94DS140517 (You) I ran this yesterday... When someone does you a free service like this then it would be considered incredibly rude to not even check for the original reply. It makes it seem like you don't really give a fuck that somebody is paying for, retrieving and uploading a check just for you
that was fast, thanks >lien was pretty much expecting that

3FASPIIJITRI365I9 or 3FASP11J1TR136519 The vin on the dash for the I or 1 are just vertical lines, can't tell if it's one or the other. If both of them don't work it's cool.

I've been storing a motorbike in my barn for my best friend's brother for years and years. I totally forgot about it for a while now and stumbled into it the other day looking for some tarps or something. I called my buddy to ask about his brother and he told me that he actually died a while back (years ago) and I never knew. I told my friend the situation and he said his ex-wife might have reported the bike stolen if she couldn't find or it whatever. The deceased owner of the bike told me (and we have a signed paper somewhere stating that) he would pay me for storage but I'm willing to bet his now widowed wife wouldn't want to give me anything. My friend said ever since his brother died his ex started scooping up everything and anything valuable of her husbands and was selling it. If the bike hasn't been reported as stolen, aren't i able to file for a lost bike or something of the sorts? I honestly do not know how it works.
I appreciate the thought, but its not really required. Never seen one of these threads 404 except for when the board gets spammed, and all you'd do is make it reach autosage sooner than necessary

And no, I have a 25 day unlimited that I pay for every 25 days
All good. Friend of mine picked up a WRX and he can't afford it/wants something else. I just wanted to see some informationz. I'll choke the VIN out of him here in a bit.

thanks m8!!
CA is great for cars in that there is generally good weather year round, no salt on roads etc... Also because of strict emissions standards most older cars are in decent operating condition or they wouldnt be registerable.
If you are on the hunt for an older classic, CA is an excellent source
Anyone know what "mileage exempt" means? I ran a carfax report myself on a car and it reports as 230K miles, but also says mileage exempt. I contacted the DMV and they confirmed the exemption but didnt really say anything useful. The guy's odometer reads 189K miles and he swears its right. Whats the deal?
I know he could have swapped the gauge cluster for one that reads less miles, but why would you swap out a 230k mile one for a 190k mile one..

Benzbro,
Thank you very much for running a VIN for me. The VIN is actually for a car I owned and loved when I was in my late teens to mid-20's. I still have the VIN memorized to this day.
I am now almost 40.
Benzbro and otherbros,
The report shows that the car is still on the road, still being taken care of, doesn't appear to have any bad events associated with it, and doesn't even have that many more miles than when I sold it back in 2002.
The car is still in California, which is where I lived when I sold it.
Question: How can I track down the current owner? I want to contact the current owner and politely offer to buy the car of my youth ... or to at least "keep my phone number for when you are ready".
This is a sentimental thing for me. To be reunited with that car would be an incredible thing. I still love that car. If Veeky Forums could somehow help reunite me with this car, it would be an EPIC story and I would never forget it.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
TL;DR - How can I get contact info for the current owner of a vehicle registered in CA? I have the VIN, and I have the probable plate number (unless it was reissued for some reason).
