New Daily Driver

Looking for a hatchback that gets at least 30 mpg combined.

Spacious interior but not a huge car.
Motor doesn't have to be super fast but not a CVT/Slow as balls lawn mower motor.
2010 or newer
Not over 50k miles
Not gonna cost me over $8k
Decently reliable, not gonna crap out on me after 10k miles.

I can do most usual maintenance myself.

What can I get with this specs Veeky Forums?

>Not over 50k miles
>Not gonna cost me over $8k
>2010 or newer

that is barely possible

Which means it is. So what do you recommend.

the bus

focus hatch
versa hatch
chevvy sonic - Probably 70k or higher miles

Make it not cost more than 10k then and not over 80k miles.

Now craigslist what could I get?

Cut the year out entirely and we might have good suggestions.

The age of a car has way less baring on it's quality than most normies think.

It has to be 2008 or newer for my job and I thought 2010 or newer would guarantee no issues if the city raised the age requirements of the vehicle.

What was on your mind, though, senpai?

Literally everything except
>2010 or newer

Get a Micra, cunt. Not a Mitsushitty
9k for a cheap manual

Don't live in the UK

What about if I said
>New
>2016/2017
>Hatchback
>Automatic (not DCT)
>$20k MAX prefer $15k
>Not cheapshit interior, I drive a 93 prelude so anything is probably an upgrade to me
>Good interior room
>bluetooth radio or ability to upgrade to one

How about with this requests. I just realized with my credit and what I can do down payment the monthly won't be bad at all in this price range.

>Automatic

why's that?

I'm not going to look it up for you, but the Chevy Sonic RS can't cost that much.
>50,000 mile car crapping out after 10,000 miles
You sound like my mom.

>but the Chevy Sonic RS can't cost that much.
Yes it does. The Chevy Sonic RS is only 1 or 2k less than a Fiesta ST.

Here are my suggestions:
Chevrolet Sonic LT or LTZ
Toyota Yaris (SE model is best)
Scion iA
Ford Fiesta
Fiat 500 (You would be shocked at how spacious it feels inside)

Everything else in the class has a CVT.

As long as I can avoid the DCT because all I hear and read are dct = lemon.

Scion is a sedan isn't it?

I'll start looking at my local dealers on some of these.

Buying used is an educated guessing game.

Cheaper insurance with my current company.
It's also for gridlock city traffic driving and not a hoon machine so I don't need manual power here.

toyota yaris

2010+ Ibizas are around 5-7k here for a unit with less than 100k km (60k miles).

Yaris is trash. Get a Kia Rio or accent or mirage any of those come better equipped and cheaper.

ninja 250 r with a luggage rack
Daihatsu Charade TS 3-door

OP Just get the Honda Fit, get the top of the line package for $19k EXL comes with all the fancy stuff and you'll drive it for as long as you want to.

It's $1400 more than the EX but you get the nav map + sirius + hand free phone stuff. Worth if if you're driving a lot.

youtube.com/watch?v=dIa7yPMr4zk

Long review video.

Your second best option is probably the 2016 Kia Rio SX package because why save $3.5k for something you plan on driving for 5-10 years and then suffer without all the amenities you'll want later on.

The mirage is another option but it's got 78 horsepower. You won't get anywhere quickly or with any real power and with the cheap interior even at the highest model GT you'll probably regret it pretty quickly. It IS cheap though so if you want to save that $5k and suffer for 5 years it's your choice.

My top pick for any hatchback that's cheap but great is the Fit.

DCTs are fine. The Fiesta has one. It's CVTs you wanna avoid.

DCT's are usually just 2 3 or 4 speed manualt transmissions matched together and made to work in tandem with 2 clutches and everything automated. They're fairly reliable and offer similar benefits to a CVT but they cost more to make.
CVT's basically have 2 pulleys connected by a belt or chain. They change gear ratios by changing the sizes of both pulleys. This gives them a near infinite amount a gear ratios and gives CVTs the ability to hold the engine at a steady RPM (The best for HP, torque or fuel economy) while speed increases. On paper, CVTs are fantastic. But in practice, not so much They have a hard time dealing with anything over 100 HP so failure rates of CVT transmissions are sky-high.

>Just get the Honda Fit
OP said no CVT's. Fuck off Hondafag.

>korean garbage
>better than toyota
Enjoy not getting it to 50k milleage
Just kill youself busrider
>inb4 anecdotal

I do see allot of Honda jazz about
and the tuned versions of them have good potential

if one wants to be super cheep you find an old lady's run about
its a bit of a gamble between mint condition and riddled with bodged repairs

You what?

Focus/Fiesta's #1 complains are Transmission problems.

Honda Fits are interior accessories

carcomplaints.com/Ford/Focus/2014/

carcomplaints.com/Ford/Fiesta/2013/

carcomplaints.com/Honda/Fit/2015/

CVTs are clearly superior to DCT. Fuck paddle shifting too.

If you want a non-honda shill then go Toyota Prius for $24k. That's way too overpriced in my opnion so just go get a used 2010 Prius for ~7k with like 120k and replace the battery cell.

what about snow mobiles ?
and Mercedes has a cvt that can deal with 300hp

so far as I'm aware cvt needs to be driven with smooth throttle application
not something people get their head around

>what about snow mobiles ?
Those don't make 100 HP. They're fairly reliable in CVT's and scooters

>and Mercedes has a cvt that can deal with 300hp
No they don't. Look again. It's a DCT.

Hold on there. Sure fords dct is pure shit but dct will always be the best autotragic

As of 2016, those Korean """garbage""" are indeed better than Toyota or even Lexus.

>Those don't make 100 HP
snowest.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-45413.html
turns out the power loss is just horrendous

>No they don't.
I just heard some noises years ago about mercies working on high power handling cvt
must of never made it to market

but there is the Subaru levorg
carspecsguru.com/subaru/levorg/group-wagon_5/modification-39222
I wonder how good it is

Then who makes hatchback's in the OP's price range and list that uses DCT that isn't ford?

There's a lot of competition in this bracket but all have trade offs.

Yaris
fit
fiesta
focus
accent
mirage
kia rio
versa
sonic

Now for OP to decide what's best would be to test drive some of them out and see what options you like best.

I'd vote to save your $$$ from the nav packages and buy a high quality GPS. It'll be way cheaper and much better looking with updated maps.

My top two votes still go for
Honda Fit
Kia Rio

Mirage is just too cheap inside even at the highest package offering.

The Subaru CVTs may be equipped with powerful turbocharged engines, but the transmission still can't take it. Look at the failure rate of Subaru WRX CVT's vs Subaru WRX Manuals.

The Mirage, Fit, and Versa all use CVT's so they're out.

Suzuki Sv650al7

I'm in the same position as OP. I'm stuck between getting a cheap but reliable shitbox, or a nice cheap truck with 100k+ miles. My price range tops out around 10k. Wat do?

I'm wanting to get rid of my 2015 subaru forester for something much cheaper. The CVT in that thing isn't bad by the way.

Let's ignore OP's CVT thing since most DCT are shit and he probably didn't look into that.

Almost no non dct/cvt at this price point and power.

Shut up and buy an EP3.

Get a real job instead of uber shit.

Get a Yaris you mahjong

VW's DCTs are fine, and Ford's will be in a few years when they finally work out the kinks. The best DCT out there is made by Acura.

But show me a RELIABLE CVT that isn't in a hybrid car.
protip: you can't

youtube.com/watch?v=SrkzaQRDtuM
why don't city cars come with planetary gear sets ?
they give lots of torque and are easy to shift
a single set gives three speeds and reverse and two sets are possible in line if you want more speed

maybe that would be relevant if op was buying a new car

>Ford's will be in a few years when they finally work out the kinks
there's more than a few considering they eat themselves every 10k miles like clockwork

If it something your gonna keep long term get a last gen fit. If its something you probably wont have for more than a couple years just buy the least fucked up neon or cavalier you can find

Honda Fit is very reliable.

Keep for at least 5. Fit or Kia Rio?

New ones use a shit CVT.

What year used the best one then.

2009-2014 Fit is best. conventional automatic, no CVT, and lots of space But a lot of the competitors are more fun to drive and just as reliable. Like the Chevy Sonic.

How about interior. Sonic superior in any area?

Just get a fit.

Golf.

It's more interesting for sure. The gauge cluster (pic related) may take some getting used to. I've driven one and I loved that gauge cluster.

fuck off. The Fit is shit now.

The gauge cluster was inspired by Japanese Sport motorcycles.

You can get a new fiesta for like 10-11k right now

Low quality DCT or I would have.

phew i'm not sure if i'm digging that one.
But if the rest of the car was great I could drive it all the time.

>But if the rest of the car was great I could drive it all the time.
Just make sure it has the 1.4L Turbo engine. Avoid the 1.8L and you're fine. The 1.8L is reliable but every 1.8L Sonic owner on the forums wishes they got the 1.4L Turbo.
youtube.com/watch?v=HEvgegyWLWs

gauge cluster looks like a dick and balls

and anything sporty does not belong on such a pitafully slow vehicle

Saturn Astra

>A E S T H E T I C background colors
>Laser grid floor
>Actual fucking samurai
Is this the most 80's car ad ever?

Star Trek / 10

aethetic

>all this shitting on DCT

My dad has a 2012 focus and the transmission has never had a problem. Hes at 160k miles now.

Just google it bud.

tldr honda fit 2004-2014 for better trans
2015 + for newest bestest fit

Cvt is shit

Better than any other option at his price point.

>pitifully slow
>fastest non-performance-variant car in its class.
Pick one. 7.8-8.1 second to 60 isn't fast but it isn't pitifully slow. And unless you get a Fiesta ST, it's the fastest car in class.

honda fit isn't slow either

sonic is nice if you get it at a good price

I never said the Fit was slow. But it's slower than the Sonic, and the newer ones are actually slower than the older ones thanks to the switch to a CVT transmission

Everything good looking is phallic in shape Just look at the Jaguar E-type.

A little bit slower but that upgraded interior and cargo room increase makes it worth the tad bit slower.

>slower than the old model
>ever being acceptable
pick one.

>2010 or newer
>Not over 50k miles
>Not gonna cost me over $8k

Mitsubishi Mirage or Fiat 500. Literally your only choices with that criteria.

Oh yeah, and the Chevy Spark.

Never get a spark unless you want to fry your wallet.

those 2017 sparks look nice but is the base model even worth buying?

> 14k for cheapo shit interior
>18k for high quality interior + better package

but at 18k digereedoos wouldn't OP be better off buying a more expensive base hatchback?

>is the base model even worth buying?
On the new one, yes. It's literally an Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva with a different front end and no longer a rebadged Daewoo. Still built in Korea though IIRC

No steering wheel controls though would suck big time if driving for as a job.

still has bluetooth it looks like
chevy website for it is annoying as heck but to compare to the two seems like the base comes with more features than i gave it credit for.

so basically spark vs fit if buying new or used would be fit vs rio vs sonic.

A Mazda3 but you would have to compromise on price and mileage.

not worth the miles/price compared to quality

2017 spark is a great pick but i'd still shill a honda fit.

Unless that one 2lt model is not a CVT since I see a secondary 2lt CVT model option.

If you can get a 4 cylinder with regular auto transmission not DCT/CVT then GET IT INSTEAD

Answer pls

>Uber driver
Kek

No. The new Sparks are 5 speed manual or CVT. And from what I can find, the CVT is sourced from Nissan.

Avoid it for that reason.
