So as I was asking, how the hell do you "play it safe" with SnS? If you get greedy, you get hit and cart, I understand- but if you don't and spend all your time just dodging and only attacking when it's totally safe, then the hunt becomes tediously long and is about as fun as pulling teeth.

You don't need to go for a full combo every time
You can also use X+A to do a dash attack to close distances faster after dodging
Most SnS attacks are also roll cancellable
Usually roll out of danger's way, X+A goes into XXAAA is your "full combo" (last hit can cancel into the spin art too), but you can stop any time to roll, X+A to close the distance, repeat
You have the one weapon that can actually enjoy consumables without sheathing and you're having what problem now? Get Evasion +1 if you need to. SnS barely locks you into any animations so it's really easy to roll with, and once you understand that it's probably also one of the easiest weapons to stay glued to the monster with.

Sit down for the long ride because all your hunts are always gonna be long. You could use traps and bombs, bring extra materials for traps to get more hits in that sort of stuff. SnS is also really good at getting mounts on monsters in 4U. Honestly if you can't get a hunt below 15 minutes you should switch to another weap.

I've played it for literally hundreds of hunts, across four games now, I know it's not going to win me any TA shit. And while I know most monsters well enough not to cart on them and am aware of roll cancelling, you have no idea how tempting it is to keep a combo going so it foesnt feel like you're hitting it with a wet tissue. Doesn't help that I lose patience easily and seem to get stuck with monsters that never show openings as long as I'm the only person they're attacking.
Most of my runs are 10, 18 minutes at most unless it's one that flies out of reach or has weak spots the SnS can't hit, but I'm certain it has less to do with the weapon being strong and everything with every monster apparently taking twice as much damage as they did in 4U despite apparently having the same amount of health. Either way, it sure as shit feels like it's taking longer than it ought to be. No I don't use striker- I'm too attached to the invulnerable frames the backup gives me as well as the charge attack to do that.

When you shoot a volley of rapid fire shots, there's a pause at the end of it.
Medium wait time (what pierce 2 has) is dumb because during that wait time you could have been 2/3rds if the way through another volley of a shot type with a low wait time
Everything else is equally bad, the only difference between being funny and being a shitter is that the latter isn't doing it "ironically".

If you use the Sakura charm farming method you'll get one eventually. Other than that, mine from blue nodes in the volcano maps. If you don't get it after a few attempts, you can save and quit and then load your file to refresh the table of possible weapons to get out of rust shards. It's weird, but that's how it works.
All instant charges are bullshit, and they should have been removed after FU died out.
Nobody can justify them without conveniently refusing to explain why no monster added from Gen 3 onward has ever gotten a similar move.
