Yeah, that was a bright spot in the otherwise dreadful slog that is the War Arc.
When I say that not only Hinata, but Ino too could have made for a pretty decent heroine of the show, I refer to this stuff. Doing neat, surreal interrogation by invading people's mindscape a la Psychonauts, good combat moves and teamwork with body switching and generally being a reliable and friendly, but during downtime still very much 'silly teenage girl' type of character, well it would all have added up to something pretty great in a female lead with plenty of screentime and opportunities to shine and make creative use of her skills.

Well, the RtN universe is alternate in the way of how some people handle situations in their initial response, not in their deeper nature, or so it seems to me at least.

Now, where Hinata's difficult situation in the prime universe caused her to cave in and start a downward spiral, here Hinata seems to have done the other alternative, act the fuck out, filled with the same insecurities and self-loathing, manifesting as overly assertive, showing off whatever she's got, even sexually.

Where in the prime universe Naruto's spirit (not his acting out, but refusal to give up on his dreams) was what gave Hinata a ray of hope and an example to follow, here I could see Menma likewise giving an example of working hard, with a cool head towards one's dreams even if they seem distant instead of just alleviating the frustration caused by no progress towards those dreams.

Also, Tobi/Madara should have just launched a stake through Hinata when she started giving him the speech, Nardo wouldn't have bounced back from that.

I guess I can wiggle around it by claiming Shikamaru's laziness aspect plays out in the prime universe by being smart enough to work out the path of least resistance, while in RtN it said 'fuck it' and made him into a complete retard who either just dies and gets to lazily decompose, or has kind people take care of him - which plays into why Chouji is the way he is, with all the bullying actually doing him good somehow.

Really though, it's a bit stupid to try and make sense of an obvious gimmick for one of the worst Nardo movies to begin with.

It's really not worth thinking about why the characters in an alternate universe act the way they are. You can just assume they were always like that. Environment probably doesn't really come heavily into play. Like with Shikamaru in the RtN universe for instance, we can assume most Nara's there are generally pretty stupid.

I wish the series has more of a focus on weapons. Yeah, having a lot of them is 10/10's thing, and you always have throwaway kunai and shuriken, but there's other stuff that could be used to spice up fights and for tech to work with. Say, a sword that cuts you, but has genjutsu embedded that not only brings the normal pain of a laceration, but something more subtle that you don't notice until too late.

I personally believe it got decent after Madara showed up and the focus shifted from "muh jobber alliance" to the legends of ninja past.

Even if it wasn't thematically appropiate because new generations and all that shit, I ended up liking Hashirama, Madara and Tobirama (also Minato) more than nearly everyone in the alliance.
