How would a money-less economy look like?

How would a money-less economy look like?

Say an alien civ arose that didn't understand the concept of individuality and, instead of paying each other to work, they ordered each other to work and distributed resources like food, water, shelter, electricity etc. according to need instead of who could pay for it?

What could humanity accomplish if they were like this?

How would economic interaction between an alien empire like this and an empire of humans go like?

Would such an economic system work with a species that understood nothing of individuality?

That is essentially communism.

That didn't go well when we tried it, kid

I AM BORG! BORG PERFECTION!

The problem with is that it doesn't account for greed.

Greed does not exist in this species.

not greed. It doesnt account for incentives

It would prob be a post scarcity society and all the shit jobs would be automated as much as possible

Incentive: Work or get shot.

And their mentality means they work happy, even if they'd die.

No intelligent species can exist without want and intention which, mixed with ignorance, is greed.

You mean to say a species that is unanimous, each individual acting as smaller parts of a conglomerate organism.

This species, if it could exist, wouldn't even bother with others, just assimilate all others into their Borg cube and move on. Watch moar startrek, and read/watch Transendence.

so like the motor factory in that ayn rand book

The civilization would collapse with out proper growth

I meant the "individualist" greed. There's none of that.

There IS, however, a FUCKTON of "collectivist" greed, in which every individual wants to further the collective over their own lives. They know that as individuals, their lives are totally meaningless and insignificant in comparison to the rest of the species. Therefore, your whole life is nothing but a means to generate more resources for the collective.

So if your claim that this system can fall apart due to greed, arrogance, or individualism, i cannot stress this enough, THEY DO NOT EXIST.

>How would a money-less economy look like?
Borg or ant colony.

>Say an alien civ arose that didn't understand the concept of individuality and, instead of paying each other to work, they ordered each other to work and distributed resources like food, water, shelter, electricity etc. according to need instead of who could pay for it?
Restate this as a question, please.

>What could humanity accomplish if they were like this?
A lot, unfortunately we're the normal kind of space monkeys, not the unanimous, telepathic kind.

>How would economic interaction between an alien empire like this and an empire of humans go like?
"Assimilate through consent or conquest" I believe is the phrase.

>Would such an economic system work with a species that understood nothing of individuality?
Probably.

I don't know what other kind of punctuation to put at the end of that?

It all boils down to what happens when resources are limited. When resources are abundant, this system is easy, and possibly better. You work, because you must to stay in the colony. When you need a break, you take one, when you need food, you go to the food place and eat. Assuming no super greed or lazyness, it works fine. Or as long as the ejection system is well regulated.

"Bob, you took a three hour break, go die in the wilderness now".

But, when resources are scarce, who gets food? Who decides? You need some sort of hivemind in place to make choices for the greater good which are followed without question. You need a God king who actually knows what is best.

>Would such an economic system work with a species that understood nothing of individuality?
if they were utterly selfless and lived and died for the good of the community then they wouldn't need money for sure.

you can think of money as universal notes for future favors.

>How would economic interaction between an alien empire like this and an empire of humans go like?
you know kinda like aztecs and spaniards... we would go there and push their shit in most likely.

Systems without money usually involve violence instead of mutual cooperation of mutual self-interest and exchanging goods.

>How would a money-less economy look like?

Essentially, Zimbabwe.

If you want food or goods, you barter.

A money less economy would be a barter economy, you fucking retards

Nice homework. What's this, high school? You've got a pretty rad teacher.

There is no bartering, you only get what you need for basic survival, work and reproduction, all handed down to you by a genuinely benevolent totalitarian dictator.

This species grew on an extremely hostile planet where cooperation and technology and resources were needed to such a degree that individuality was abolished, so basically an ant colony with advanced technology and intelligence

or maybe it doesn't have to be handed down by a dictator as nobody is hoarding goods and they share in times of need.

The dictator shared in times of need because he isn't greedy and only cares about furthering his own species.

i'm telling you there doesn't need to be a dictator your anthropomorphic bias is showing.

Why the fuck would you not have a dictator?

If there isn't one omnipotent singleton ruling then the system is liable to crumble apart with multiple factions.

why would be factions what if they all work for the betterment of their species every single one off them and they can coordinate without central instructions purely p2p kinda like ants just more evolved.

Oh.

Or have USD.

Currency would break out, government-backed or not. Any sort of trade requires a baseline currency.

There is no trade. This species simply does not understand money.

You're conflating two concepts.
Money isn't fundamentally needed, it's just a way to make barter more efficient.

Aliens you described would be basically ants, but I'm not sure how realistic that is. A species like that almost certainly wouldn't be very intelligent because of fundamental communication issues, biology is slow. They would have to be designed for this to sort-if work, and even then it would be spatially limited to some equivalent of an anthill, whole planet is infeasible.
