DIESELGATE THREAD

Anybody else here affected by Diesel gate?

>2015 Golf TDI
>Love the car
>supposed to be getting back between 5-10k in the lawsuit
>either a buyback at prediesel gate prices or a fix

The deal honestly doesnt seem to bad for me.

Ive got a tsi, so I just get to sit back and watch the fun from my safety net

Got a 2013 passat tdi. I'm probably going to get rekt with this buyback.
Fucking car has 80k miles on it already

Just leave it alone. Don't get the fix and enjoy the car. It's never going to be unregisterable.

>tsi

As do I and resell value has suffered badly....

>either a buyback at prediesel gate prices or a fix
No, your choices are:
a. sell car at predieselgate price (lose your depreciation value)
b. get the fix (drop in horsepower, mileage, and performance in return for greener emission)
c. don't get the fix (retain HP,MPG,response) in order to keep your Fahrvergnügen features.

Has the settlement been finalized?

Patents have a '10 A3 TDI

07 GLI, personally not hit but a lot of buddies are gonna get hit pretty hard unfortunately.

>Ive got a tsi, so I just get to sit back and watch my turbo gets blown to bits
ftfy

Bought a 2010 CC with a TSI right after Dieselgate. Got it for a steal. People were being stupid and started trading them in super cheap. got a 50K Car for less than 15k. Im Happy

>5-10k
Closer to 1-7k maybe buy back.

>Turbo blown to bits
>Not watch your 16 valves get blown to bits when your engine oil-pressure driven timing chain tensioner takes a shit
ftfy

See my above post. If you haven't changed to the updated timing chain tensioner, you are driving a literal ticking time bomb.

That is the dumbest post I've ever read.

How? I am a Volkswagen technician. Pre-2013 TSI engines have a oil-pressure driven chian tensioner that is known to fail, leading to the chain skipping time, and bending valves.

I've personally seen it in a 2009 Passat. 67,000 miles. 16 bent valves.

More like
>Your experience as a specialist is validated because you said so

I don't see you offering any viable counter argument. If you're saying early TSI engines didn't have timing chain issues, even a cursory google search proves you wrong.

This is really terrible trolling.

German engineering, ladies and gentlemen.

No argument from me. They suck.

Ford don't seem to be paying up. Despite being a worse offender than VW.

>Fiat shill posting about reliability

>VW fags
>with a TDI car
>on a car enthusiast board
LMAO I needed this, thanks
That guy is one of the worst tripfags on this board, some others at least admit their car is shit

Looks like my buyout is going to be $21,000, or I can take the fix with a $7K payout. I just don't know.

t. busrider

oh look, it's an actual, real life cuck.
How does it feel knowing you'll never get laid thanks to your car
>i..it helped me get laid!..!
>lying on the internet

>2012 Golf
>$20,000 value

All the info, including calculating payout is ^
People with cars older than 2011 are getting cucked.

I may move over to a GTI or FoST with that kind of money.

>People with cars older than 2011 are getting cucked.
>buys VW
>Claims others are getting cucked.

I don't plan on getting rid of mine for a very long time, so I don't mind. It's been so reliable to me

Lmao you're one too talk about shit cars. Drop the trip you useless troglodyte

>someone is calling my car shit!
>i'm gonna say they ride the bus! that'll show them!

Question for TDI guys: how enjoyable is it to drive a new VW diesel thing? Do you:
a) have to make it enjoyable (ex. some like loud farting diesels)
b) consider it fun as is (reason?)
c) only care about its MPG figures?
I have no experience with diesels nor newish cars. I like revving the shit out of my tiny econo gas engine.

Pic is peak torque range in current 150 hp Golf TDI. I think I would barely roll in first, shift into 2 and push up to 3000 rpm, shift into 4 for the same and then go for 5/6. Any opinions whether it's a bad idea or it could be any fun?

tl;dr how do I like the TDI?

> pic

Same thing happened on my friends Skoda Superb with TSI engine only couple of valves actually broke off, low mileage too.

Nah, had company 1.9 TDI Skoda for few years, it's like driving very rough 3.0V6 with 3.5krpm rev limiter.

I did all the calculations and I'll be paid $20867... I basically drove this car for free the last 4 years. With the loan pay off I'll walk away with 12k in my pocket, now the big question is will uncle same tax me the standard 40% they usually do for lump payments?

lol, I don't need a car to get laid. But nice projection.

t. civic owner

No, monies from class action suits are not taxed.

Not exactly but I would rather own a Civic than a piece of shit diesel FIAT.

I hope you realize no 5 year old car is getting 20K and they also take mileage into account.

Does this happen on the 90 kW 1.4 liter variant? Pretty sure I got a belt, not the chain...

>uncle same tax me the standard 40% they usually do for lump payments?
The federal income tax usually exempts a lot of court ordered compensation. But your state income tax might tax it. It's why I buy one of those tax programs each year. I don't do it for the convenience. I do it because I assume they incorporate all the latest tax code changes that I simply don't know about. And it's cheaper than paying the inflated $300 to a tax prep place like HR Block. They have that tiny fee for advertising purposes which just about no one qualifies for so it always ends up $300 or so if I were to use them.

If you have a belt, you are fine. I haven't seen enough of the 1.4 TSI's to tell you yet.

I have a 2015 golf, paid 23000 for it, buy back for 21000 or get 6000 in settlement. I really love the car BUT I am well aware of VW's long term reliability.

>wat do

...

>Dieselgate
>Die Seil Geht
>"The rope goes" in German
>WHAT DOES IT MEAN

Chain -> Rope
Goes -> Malfunctions

Intriguing.

2012 Jetta TDI here. Looking at just over $19K for a buyback or around $5,500 for the cash only option. Leaning towards cash now as I have no interest in shopping for a replacement and possibly taking on another car payment. So close to having this thing paid off.

True genius. We must discover the secrets of The Going Rope.

ftc.gov/enforcement/cases-proceedings/162-3006/volkswagen-group-america-inc

All the info is there on payout my car has 48k miles, I hope you know vw owners hits lottery and the epa is raping vw :^)

Depends how much you owe, I doubt there will be a fix approved I'm personally gonna take the buyout and run.

Kek

I don't understand what all the hate is for new Volkswagens is. Like whenever I look up reviews for them and stuff, they're all rated very highly, yet when I come here, everyone shits on them. Could someone hopefully unbiased help enlighten me?

typically lying to your customers and gaming the system don't result in an excess of good will

Veeky Forums members don't generally have enough disposable income to keep and maintain an automobile built in this century, let alone enough experience to judge a car for what it's really worth.

TL;DR Don't get your car advice from an internet circle jerk inhabited by 15 year-olds.

Tell that to Donald Trump's legions.

MEME OF THE FUTURE GUYS

Bumping for more opinions (more on current 2.0 TDI).
>7 captchas in a row lol

I really like driving mine and most of my friends comment on how fast my car is. It's actually slow as fuck but with all the torque it does "feel" fast.

This. Mine has the Rawtek dpf delete and Malone tune. It's a blast to drive, but I may be returning it to stock and letting VW have the car back and buying a Chevy Volt.

That's true, but people I know have them and love the hell out of them, with very very little mechanical stuff going wrong.

I love my golf tsi, it's fantastic. I going to get an APR tune soon. 250 whp incoming

>driving a turd with wheels

Cool bro

and what do you drive exactly faggot?

My car is better than yours, so eat a dick.

Why do people here in the US even care about dieselgate?

Nobody fucking drives diesel cars here.

New golfs are so much more and better than what they were 4 years ago.

it's like night and day, and it's all because of that fucking magnificent engine.

I do and so do about another 440k people.

>My car is better than yours, so eat a dick.
>Doesn't tell us what car he drives

Spotted the bus rider

Don't worry man non-poor fags know the joy of owning a new car

Exactly, anyone can one buy a hand me down bmw e46.

The truth is that people with cum rag of cars don't ever get to enjoy the car for it's full potential.

Remember that used car fags, you are the betas of the car world.

They are great cars irl. However, long-term reliability is definitely a well known issue with VW. But a lot of it is parroting and exaggeration. I have a 20 year old Audi, it's been super reliable besides normal wear items
