DCII. While I liked some things about Yoake and it had a nice common route I had to force myself though some of the character routes, while Koko's is the only really bad one in DCII.

DCII probably. I liked all routes in some form, except for Koko's, though I felt that they were too formulaic at times. Like, all the 4 'starter' heroines have similar route structures with nothing new really being discovered in each route except for whatever monkey paw power they have. At the same time, Otome / Yume routes are essentially interchangeable with a deus ex machina happy ending at the end of them.

However, I outright adored most of the characters, especially Minatsu (robot), Anzu, and Yume, which more than made up for it. I guess my biggest problem was that the protagonist was denser than a neutron star and took forever to understand, well, anyone, and constantly basically has to have everything spelt out to him by Akane/Anzu.

Yoake has some flat-out unbearable character routes, but the 'true route' (i.e. continuation of Feena's route, Wreath, Sayaka, Estel) were goddamn adorable. Especially Estel, who was hands down my favourite character and route, aside from the true one. Mai also has a pretty good route.

Meanwhile, Midori, as good as her character was, had a blase route, Mia's was shit (maybe I just didn't like her), and Natsuki's was boring. Feena's original route was basically forced drama (with some authentic mixed in).

In Wreath's case, I felt like they planned on something more, since it's the only route that ends on a wholly depressing note, and their relationship was barely getting started.

Man, this DCII translation is lazy sometimes. I know there was nothing in the text box but that's only because it was too quiet for Yoshiyuki to hear and there are other ways of getting that across. If I didn't know Japanese I'd have no idea what Yume was saying when she's muttering all the time.

You should have done Mai's route first, actually. Mai is a godtier imouto, despite her not being blood-related.

We ran into that with DC3, there's a few spots where in the original the text box is blank and the spoken dialog is really quiet. We're just putting those in a really small font in DC3.

Yeah, it was a bad call. I'm pretty sure it is exactly like that in the original text, though. It's usually just simple words like "sorry" though so if you've watched an anime or two you know what they're saying.

DC2 is one of the better early-MG translations, but you also have to remember it was done back in 2010 before they really toughened their standards for editing/translating.

In fairness most of the drama that ends up with that kind of situation ends up being the MC's fault or at least partly their fault. Though usually by misunderstanding or some other stupid thing.
I do hate it when shit like that is played off as comedy though where the MC does something like accidentally walk in someone changing or trips over and gropes a girl and every other girl just beats up/blames the MC even though it was an accident.

I don't know why that is so common. Usually ends up with the MC going full retard under the excuse of being stressed or embarrassed and shouting something at the girl or saying something offhanded that can easily be misinterpreted or lying about something then slipping up. Most of the time it should be pretty obvious to the MC why the girl is mad, but usually doesn't realise until someone else tells him he should apologise.
