What does an engine misfire sound like?

How can you tell if you have loud cams and a loud exhaust if no cel comes on

>open driver door
>feel vibration at end of door
If it feels excessive while the vehicle lacks power and seems to guzzle gas, you have a misfire

Will a misfire always throw a code?

An OBDII car SHOULD throw a code. It will say misfire when you look it up and probably tell you what cylinder or what bank of the engine if a V configuration.

Symptoms include:
Shitty idle (exacerbated by the less cylinders.)
Heavy gas consumption as it isn't burning it
Rich smell from exhaust

Failure to fix it can lead to bad cats.

For reference, here is my motorcycle misfiring due to 2 bad coils. An inline 4 practically running on 2 cylinder giving it an extremely shitty idle and stalling out.

If you have a v8, it may be practically indistinguishable.

where did you get my Exs photo?

Sounds like when you eat mexican but can't fart all day because you are in an office/public transit then make it back to the privacy of your car.

A bit more rumbly, you might not notice a different exhaust note but shit will be shaking. Also down on power.

Is a backfire different from a misfire?

2002 Durango 4.7 has a misfire and no codes. Driving my up the fuckin wall....

Rocker arm probably fell off.

They don't throw a misfire code, but they should throw a system rich code.

It will almost always be the passenger head, so pull the plugs on that side to confirm, but I'd just go straight to pulling the passenger side valve cover.

It's inconsistent misfiring or I'd be inclined to agree with you. Above 2K RPM it's fine. On idle and initial acceleration there's misfiring and hesitation.

Still a Rocker arm. These engines run just fine on 7 cylinders.

Or possibly a valve has went. A compression test would prove that though.

I have recently fucked with a lot of these.
One dropped a seat, causing the Rocker to Lodge in between the head and the cam which broke the head and sheared the cam drive pin. It ran fine at 2000rpm too with 4 cylinders and one dumping air into the intake.

A backfire is gasoline leaking into the exhaust and then combustion there

A misfire is when the gasoline inside the cylinder ignites at the wrong time

They may run fine on 7 cylinders but you'd have to be retarded to not hear or feel it when it intermittently cuts out.

How many miles are on the engine?

120K. Well maintained, very little noise except on startup.

>over 100k
Rocker arm.

It's like headgaskets to a Subaru.

I think it throws a P030#, where # is the number of failed cylinder. i.e. my car can throw P0301 up to P0304

They don't sound like anything. You feel the hesitation/vibrations

take the spark plugs off. the one that's soaking wet is the misfiring cylinder.
