A two-week long vacation without a laptop made me really think about what's fun and what's not about my game. I will be chopping some features (like being able to decide where things will be built) for other features (like characters on outpost screen having an AI, interacting with things and moving around). I'm also changing the aspect ratio of the whole things for easier exporting the game to mobile devices.

A phoenix-wright style adventure game where you try to demoralize and insult indie game developers online until they have nervous breakdowns or give up on their projects or kill themselves. You leave cruel feedback on their projects and exploit any flaws they try to cover up and hide, point out their lack of innovation or awful graphics and try to figure out exactly what will trigger them the most. You start off merely as an internet troll and grow to a critical and eventually get a show and column of your own.

Temporary new background for DDX, engine's gonna get an overhaul so new art to make once I plan the level layout.

Nope

Is it ok to take a "break day" anons? I feel guilty for not working on it today. I am stuck on a problem that is really straining my brain right now, I feel like I need to come back at it later when I'm in a different mind set.

>touching gamedev after doing fuckall and dropping my last project two years ago
>decide to try gamemaker
>make an asteroids clone while following a series, seems simple enough
>find a pretty in-depth looking guide with 30 parts on making a top-down RPG
>guy is completely insufferable, can barely listen to him because his voice cracks every three seconds

Fuck, is there any video series/tutorial guide for gamemaker? I want to learn shit but I don't feel confident enough starting on a solo project just yet.

And character design for my possible Lewd Jam game.
Haven't decided what I'm gonna make yet.

Looks like the only option available to me the first pass was "expand appearance", and that I had to then go back and use the then-ungreyed "expand" button.
Neat, I'm figuring stuff out
If only I could figure out quick ways to mathematically place stuff now

A Phoenix Wright-style adventure game where you play as the prosecutor.

How is it a game jam if you announce the theme super early and give people a bunch of time to start working on it?

Isn't this all just an excuse to motivate you retards to make your shitty porn games?

How is heartbeast insufferable? I would give his series another shot because it really helped me out a lot and his tutorials are well structured and organized. Also hes literally a perfect pure mormon god and the voice cracks are funny because its his one flaw and theres nothing he can do about it and you can tell hes probly really self concious about it.

Holy shit looks nice

wouldn't even call lewd jam a jam it's like 2 weeks long and most have started already

just submit a damn lewd game

>How is it a game jam if you announce the theme super early and give people a bunch of time to start working on it?
Don't ask me.
AGDG game jams always had a theme announced before the jam starts, it's not a competition.

Forget normie jam, just post it here when you're done

i can already fap to it
yeah and only get the people who are browsing the thread at the time to play it, great idea

Probably ok

Amazing. I have never seen anything quite like this. Bravo!

Uh yeah, that's the point of AGDG jams. Which this one isn't.

I don't mean insufferable as in "fuck, this guy is annoying", I mean it as in "I can't suffer through this because it's physically painful". I'm using an ATH-M40x and every time his voice cracks it hurts my ears and completely ruins any concentration or flow I have. I cannot do another 15 episodes of this.

Aseprite is no longer open source github.com/aseprite/aseprite/commit/5ecc356

what do I use now

Is Unity 3D really worth it considering the performance problems?

do you browse /agdg/ 24/7 or something

Unless you need an intense amout of physics, Unity is usually ok. The engine has come a long way, despite the maymays.

lol, holy shit, my sides.

pyxel edit is like the exact same program, don't know if it's open source though

Why wouldn't anyone do that? Or check the archives?

Like?

It's not the fastest engine, but what in particular do you think is wrong with it? Is it the 3.5 mono version?

this isn't a laughing manner user i NEED to GAMEDEV.

respond with at least 12 tutorial links.

That's now how GPL works. People can still use the previous forks of Aseprite. Even if they're not going to be maintained.

No it isn't, pyxel edit is far worse than aesprite.

>what do I use now
The previous versions that are still fully functional.

If you read the link you would see you could still compile it for yourself, so he's clearly saying that because of an ideological problem.

looks like a mobile game already

Lol i dunno man, there are a lot of tutorials out there. Maybe mute it and use captioning or pirate his book. For me its his greeting thats more annoying than anything.

not him but heartbeast just rubs me the wrong way, he's a good looking chad that's confident enough to sit in front a camera and sell good goy gamedev noobs basic shit.

i don't even know if the guy has made an actual game because all i see out of him are tutorials and ebooks. he's no different than all the other youtubers like those guys selling vegan diet books and stuff.

This is the GPL fork of asprite. It just needs a new maintainer.

github.com/aseprite-gpl/aseprite

in what way

FPS counter, now with:
- Multiline text
- An automatically converted font instead of a hand-crafted one
- Several rendering bugs fixed

yes it is, only noDevs care for the meemees

are you making some next gen shit? if not any performance problems you encounter will be 99% your own doing

Yeah hes a really vanilla basic guy cause he was raised mormon, which is why his game grain war is pretty bland and uninspired looking. I really like his tutorials since im really new to this.
Also for the guy who was asking, try reading the gml documentation itself and see what you can do with it.

don't break. work on something else

100% honesty: Unreal and GameMaker are better but Unity is fine if the workflow makes sense to you

Thanks guys

It crashes and stores no backups of your files.
It's animation tools are terrible
-animations are stored on the page itself, not on a frame by frame basis
-you cannot insert frames into middle animation
-you cannot delete frames into middle of animation
Cannot create pallete from current working file
Shit brushes
No eraser support with Wacom

It's infurating because aesprite is the ugliest thing ever and I would rather use pyxel edit but the dev will not release source so right now it's only useful for its tilemap shit, and thats all i use it for, and then it crashes and I want to kill somebody.

I had a dev build of aesprite and it would crash my computer

Never tried it again after that

steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=755836653

Like every game made on unity has these low framerate and intense CPU/GPU usage even though the game looks barely decent.

That has nothing to do with Unity and is not literally every game.

I'm sure he's great, but my sides will not be denied.

youtube.com/watch?v=jquWO-0VkII

I'm removing bloat, tuning up the things that matter - the event system

...

That's just lack of dev optimization most of the time. Things like using large texture resolutions for a shitty texture that they could get away with using small. Calculations being performed inefficiently, etc.

As an artist, am I not allowed to have a preference about what tools a project I'm involved in uses?

>this is what unity-fags actually believe

Im 50% sure that the devs of ROOT turned off occlusion culling so they could have a cool transparency look

...

this barbecue pizza is pretty shitty, I'm have a mocha. :) hope everyone's game/tutorials goes great.

What version of pyxel edit are you using? I haven't had it crash in a long ass time.

>wake up
>get ready to knock a bunch of stuff off the todo list
>spend the ENTIRE day on one bug you discovered

Current beta release ."stable" has less features making it even more useless.

what the fuck is wrong with degenerates and pizza
here are the ingredients in pizza:

>dough
>olive oil
>tomato sauce (tomatoes, onion, herbs)
>mozzarella
and then toppings

anything else is not pizza

He is right though, it all depends on how much time you spend on your game, you can even make a FPSMMO that doesn't look like horseshit:
youtube.com/watch?v=iyyJEzZq3sQ

Yeah I need to try that, thanks for the advice!
I'm glad that someone remember my game

you did a good job, user! even if it feels small, you still did a lot of progress.

what was your first game

looking back are you proud?

you should be user

Gay baby-furry incest textbased jrpg

I wanted barbecue like pizza hut use to have with actual kinda like barbecue on it, but they made the whole pizza barbecue flavored. kind of ruined it. oh well there wings are really good.

Sauce?

Mainly because of NMS, I've been thinking about adding a spherical curve and how to implement it; from just faking it with modulus (like how Super Mario 64 does to inadvertently make PUs) and some crazy flat xyz to spherical xyz for Perlin noise, to actually making spherically curved meshes and "accurate" functions to keep everything working, I realized I can fake it by applying vertex shader hacks.

And then this happened.

It took 5 lines of code in my vertex shader that fills the G-buffer; no additional changes to 2+ year old code.

Higher quality video at bambis.cat/grimgram/fuckup1.webm
I wonder if anyone still remembers the little amount of progress I've posted about tg

Well, it's the truth. Of course Unity has its own problems, but still most of the optimization failures are because of indie developers who underestimate/ignore this.

>you can even make a FPSMMO that doesn't look like horseshit:
Not if you have the 'tism like engies do. Even if they tried using Unity they wouldn't be able to make anything with it. Enginedev is a convenient excuse for them to not make games while pretending to be devs.

>made stir fry for dinner
>way too much curry powder
How do indians deal with this?

This is not a chatroom.

You really want those (You)'s, don't you?

It's like 15 dollars.

What the fuck man.

I feel your over curry powered pain.

And then this happened.

Slightly higher quality at bambis.cat/grimgram/fuckup2.webm, I couldn't increase the bitrate without even bigger filesizes

*powdered

>Eating sand nigger food

;^)

I want engies to stop acting like their opinions matter when they've never made a game.

>bambis.cat/grimgram/fuckup1.webm

>mfw

Lot of asian countries use curry powder as well. Also
>indians
>sandniggers

Wrong meme, you're looking for poo in loo.

underage out

And everything was fixed because I was doing some shit involving doing calculations in world space instead of view space for some reason.

It looks too good for 5 lines of code. Shadows also work surprisingly.

bambis.cat/grimgram/beaut.webm

It's an meme about Bambi's Cat with some fags I talk to.
I kind of want to shell out $73 for a dedicated domain name, but wheres the fun in using a meme name I got for $5?
And I'm not really a new dev, just a now-nodev.

No, thanks, Vittorio Romeo. You're a misguided student spreading your terrible ideas to the world.

This is the start to one of my first test games, I've made a few other super small games as practice but this is my first side scroller.

I'm sorry that my first post about this game is a question but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out this bug.

It seems like when I jump into the side of a block the dude shoots into the sky, I don't think the problem is with the collision boxes.

This is the GMS code: pastebin.com/EUtsDjAi
The bug is at the end of the Webm

...

I'm surprised you like it. I plan on replacing all of the graphics in my game honestly. I copied the style from MOTHER, and wanted a sort of "depressing/winter-y" palette. You can have the tiles for use or for reference if you want

Pure ECS is just as shitty as the naive OO approach. No thanks.

I am getting "ganstalked" and I have proof by multible other person.

This is a milestone, even though I don't have a recording device there are mutlible people that agree with me that there are hostile people that are observeing me.
I need to buy audio recording equipment that is concealed and I have ended this farce.

Gangstalkers watch out! Your network will get exposed and once you get known to the public I can't garentee for your safety!
