Which type of inventory do you like to have in a game?
strawpoll.me/11130414

Lots of artifacting and they don't scale with the number of lights, so only good for outdoor scenes where the effect is subtle.

Third for mokou

ok time to find someone to buy lean from and dev my game

Show your lewdism
How many layers of lewdism have your game?

apathy is fucking gross.
how do i fix it m8s?
Already eat healthy and run and all that. don't smoke or drink either.

>scat

nice video game development

Can you get away with a 4:3 resolution for your game if there's any chance it might get on consoles?

do something to break the rotine. if you are healthy freak eat a pizza once a week. pay a whore, smoke pot, drink wisky, get a gf and fuck her in the ass. if nothing works try smart drugs.

Why would you do that

Fuck off to /v/ nodev

I only have gun porn

For what purpose?
I literally see none.

Undertale got away with it just fine but the author was a furry hack so don't count on it

tfw no you's on my webm

Does clear-ish ice cast a shadow?

I'm trying to find a picture but all I get is Sonic fan art

If you can see it, it casts a shadow.

got me wondering how many sales it's gotten since (You) decided to promote it with my brand.

>eat a pizza once a week. pay a whore, smoke pot, drink wisky, get a gf and fuck her in the ass. if nothing works try smart drugs.
where is JLMG in that list?

(You)
and that changes what exactly?
who gives a fuck what you were pointing out, what you posted is terrible

>go get some ice
>play with lights
>take some liberalizations because video games

I'm pointing out he should reconsider a different frame for the beginning of slash animation.

and what you posted isnt any better at all

clear ice casts a shadow like that of glass

in other words, you couldn't possibly have chosen a more difficult thing to simulate

Does glass cast a shadow?

What he's got right now looks awkward, by all means post a better frame for the start of a slash attack. Because your edit is pointless, his animation is fine, it's just the start up that looks bad.

>got me wondering how many sales it's gotten since (You) decided to promote it with my brand.

I hope plenty because I actually enjoy your narratives based games not to mention i'm a sucker for googware

...

>narratives based games
please stop associating my good name with this filth

I gave up on lewd until I learn proper figure drawing

How do I make 3d character models walk at an angle on a 2d painted background without any camera work involved?
Or how do I even make partial line collision on 2d background with 3d models.

>good name

the standards for art in lewd games is pretty low

Dev better every day!

This. Just look at bareback streets and how much money it generated

anyone here like rat girls?

A smaller screen is a lot easier to deal with, both sprite and gameplay-wise.

And for what it's worth, plenty of indie games still go with 4:3, like the new Momodora or the La-Mulana remake.

My standards are not that low though

Depends on the kind. If we're talking Freya or or Ink-Eyes then YES

if you're fine with it being stretched to widescreen on people's TV's

forgot image

Still on my retro game and I want unity's smart sprites, but they're reworking it...
Anyways, updated the camera system to move ahead when going right, placing you in the middle when facing left, and do all kinds of funky stuff with vertical speeds and limits.
Also added parallax scrolling backgrounds.
The webm looses some of the filter image quality, will post png next. (1/3)

Hm I guess even lewd games need gameplay

full quality pic of retro filter.
All current graphics are just ripped ones to be able to compare it to something.
Also zoom in to see the details. (2/3)

Camera boundaries and speed sectioning in the editor. (3/3)

Now I just need a game to create.
I have a rough concept though..
Need to flesh it out and then bring it on.

I give a rat's ass. Please, tell us more

It is a waste of time, because even Dorf Fortress does that, and probably more thoroughly that you ever would in a fraction of the time.

>do space jam
>feel good about doing gamedev
>haven't done anything in weeks
>tfw trying to get back to gamedev
And I wanted to learn how to Blender models by the same Demo Day X came around. Fuck me for playing Yakuza 5 for the past two weeks.

Here's a stupid question: Where do funded games spend their money? Pic related. If they invested 1.5 million in sweat equity (that's like 3 years of an indie team working without pay) where did the rest of the money go?

I have fun wiith my gameplayless lewd game

>apathy is fucking gross
stop speaking in 'weird twitter' dialect. The only "gross" things are bodily fluids and corpses.

rats are cute

There is still time to join meme jam

wrote two songs , one for the level and one titlesong. The latter one is placeholder for demoday10.
Also wrote a little 3 second melody for when you finish the level.
Drew a flying donut (still has to be implemented)
Made a placeholder title screen.
Made it gamepad support only for now because the keyboard was fucking me up, also get a gamepad you poor sucker.
hurry hurry hurry for dd10 !!!!
Godspeed!!!

Webm with audio s1.webmshare.com/5v3Aa.webm

first enemy class, rats who most likely dual wield daggers or maybe something else

I've been devving for a while now on GM and I'd like to show my videogaymes. What software should I use to record screen footage?

>What it should be:
software licenses, publishing fees, necessary hardware, payroll, marketing, in that order

>What it actually is
frivilous personal spending because there's no accountability, oversight, or consequences.

Your link is broken senpai

I once got a quote of several thousand dollars to make barely one level's worth of music.

Obviously I instead got some guy in a basement to make music that was just as good for 1% of the price, but I can see how only using 'professionals' would add up quickly.

>working in quixel NDO
>finish detailing an area
>hit zip mode
>realize I still have some work to do
>unzip
>99% of my work is gone

I fucking hate this program

I like that you wanted to hear this user's work so quickly after it was posted. Feels good by proxy

Works and embeds for me (not even him).
YOU are broken...

OBS to record video. WebM for retards to convert to webm.

the music muffling underwater is comfy as shit

shit I was totally grasping straws , turns out its not broken

>he fell for the high detail meme
This is exactly why low poly is better.

Neat

404s for me in firefox, works when i use chrome, worked in chrome, still doesn't work in firefox.
FF is getting worse every day..

>YOU are broken...
oh shiiiiiiiiiit

I opened it up in a different browser and it worked

I dunno m8. I'm not sure if I can be lewd enough.

it didn't work for me right away (Firefox) but refreshing the page made it work.

what resolution are you making this pixel art in? looks pretty high res

Those mechanics look super janky and buggy. Maybe it's just the low framerate of the recording but it doesn't look very nice to play.

How do I get into gamedev

I agree with : Very comfy. But it should transition a bit more smoothly, it's a bit too abrupt right now.

I want to hear more of the music

I am and I use FF. Chrome is technically the bad one with media files... update anyways.

Choose an engine, read/watch tutorials, make just like game.

>which engine to choose?
Look at what each of them offer, what language they use, their price point, etc, etc. The ones in the OP are good ones to start with. Maybe try a few of the engines first hand.
In the end all engines are more or less the same, they may offer different things and are structured differently, and those things come down to personal preference. So pick which engine feels the most comfy to you.

Time to learn how to export stuff to mobile devices

Okay.
Then do I need to learn a programming language, or rather, programming in general too?

I don't know jack shit about what code is.

my skills include
>pixelshit profficiency
>some animation on sides
>a lot of free time

I just can't comprehend how to make games by writing code, it just doesn't work in my head.

How do I know what words to write?
How do I know that this and that does what I want? Do I just try combinations over and over until it does?
That kinda shit, my brain doesn't compute technology

Never give up anons. You either work more or you don't. Putting in more work will make the game better and get it finished, not putting in work will make the game worse and not done.

The choice is simple and you know the right one to make.

how do i get motivated? I always just do a small bit of detail on a model then stop for 10 minutes.

Literally 1 click in most engines.
Game maker, unity, godot.
Just click export and choose what you want (android, pc, consoles etc.)

Just don't stop after doing a small bit of detail

Whatever you're doing is probably way out of your scope if you don't feel like working on it. If you know you can finish it in a few days then you're more likely to work on it for extended periods of time just to get it done.

You need focus. Of remove distractions

A few reminders for all enginedevs:

Compress, don't prematurely abstract! Start by writing code where it needs to be used. Only refactor when you end up repeating yourself too much. As you gain experience, you will have better intuition about what things will likely be repeated, and you may be able to go straight to the modularized version.

Don't try to treat all game objects uniformly, whether through a common base class or ECS indices into the same tables! Inheritance doesn't work very well, but neither does composition if you still try to do this.

Consider immediate-mode techniques instead of retained-mode! Retained-mode usually ends up with spaghetti all over the place. You can even use for performance reasons, such as an IMGUI with retained resources for textures and strings.

When implementing scripting, make sure you have proper inversion of control! Scripts shouldn't control the engine, they should provide data that the engine interprets. Remember that data includes behaviour when you factor in first-class functions!

ill have it finished in 30 minutes, need to do the other side

>Which type of inventory do you like to have in a game?
JUST

Yes you will need to code.
That's why you gotta learn the engine. Some engines have easier coding, Godot and Gamemaker are pretty easy to code with, and both are good with pixel art. You learn the language and the syntax and practice a bunch.

And by a bunch I mean years.

>Choose an engine
This is an optional step.

When will you people start taking us enginedevs seriously?

Finished?

The mesh maybe. That looks like 25% done for a high quality model.

>can make 3D models and paint them half decently
>try pixelart
>everything looks like shit

Not the guy you're talking to, but is there any reason to use Godot over Game Maker, beyond it being free?

...

Your porn games were better than your current shit. Please go back to that.

Stop playing games and start making them.

You can get both of them free, with the paid version of GML having only a few extra perks. Godot uses a syntax similar to Python so if you knew that, it might be the better engine.

i know, but it is fun playing H&G and ringing bells and whistling

Think of coding as if it's learning a new language

If I wanted to tell a person from Mexico in detail how to do something I would need to use a lot of online resources in order to get my point across and get them to do what was needed. It would take me years to be able to fluently talk to them and feel comfortable with the language but until then I have books, youtube videos and websites to help me.

If I needed to ask the Mexican man where the toilet is I could either look up every individual word in the sentence and form it myself or I could find the sentence already completed online and try to destruct it and understand how it works.

For 2D they offer just about all of the same stuff. Godot structures things differently, and has a different language. So mostly that's down to personal preference, which one "clicks" better with the dev.
Godot does also offer better 3D support than Gamemaker.
