Why don't more companies make electric cars?

Why don't more companies make electric cars?

Because they can never compete with tesla/ they got into the game too late

Because despite all the spin teslafags would have you believe the technology, and the power grids are not yet ready for the mass market.

Musk can keep fucking around and pushing immature product onto the gullible then in 10 or 20 years when the time is right an asian company will walk in with a better, cheaper car and eat teslas lunch.

is difficult and expensive to R&D and most car companies just don't have the expertise internally to start a project like that from scratch

the chevy volt was a MASSIVE undertaking, in fact some big chunk of the bailout was paying for the r&d of that. on the upside GM now has a solid hybrid architecture to put into other cars and the Bolt is literally a Volt without the gas engine bits, the underlying architecture (especially software) is the same

Why are there no 4WD "off-road" electrics with that retard strength torque?

Tesla is just a very successful marketing scheme.

because electric cars are idiotic and only built for PR purposes.

this

Because electric car technology is still babby tier, once they completely figure it out then we will see more

tesla got a bunch of really smart principle engineers very early on, and the path from expensive toy (roadster) to mass market car (model 3) was actually the best possible way to go about things.

but yeah, also good marketing

>once they completely figure it out
there will never be rechargeable batteries with an energy density high enough to compete with fuel.

Never say never

Very much this. This is what happened with Apple too. Apple copied shit and never invented something of their own. What they did was modify components and gave it a new OS. Iphone technically is a very successful marketing scheme.

Most companies have fears whether they will attract the market or not as there are only a high number of failures versus the number of success. Eg: Tesla.

all german car manufacturers are developing electric cars atm, release will be in 2-3 years

>got into the game too late.

>implying car manufacturers give a shit about the electricity grid
they're too expensive and lack range OP

You mean early?

Because it's surprisingly hard to make a good electric car, and Tesla was the first to make one that didn't look like a fucking jellybean and had more range than a golf cart. I'm not saying they are perfect, because their interiors are sub par for $100k cars, but they sell because they are pretty good.

>fuck that cunt in the OP picture btw

Acceptance of electric cars was initially hampered by a lack of power infrastructure, but by 1912, many homes were wired for electricity, enabling a surge in the popularity of the cars. At the turn of the century, 40 percent of American automobiles were powered by steam, 38 percent by electricity, and 22 percent by gasoline.

The only thing apple created that was new was user friendly interfaces. In every market they've gotten into. Sure it's not innovative but I give them kudos for putting effort into the small shit we deal with every day.
