Hey Veeky Forums, just picked up someone's drift car RX7 for cheap. It's a '91 and I fixed its idle issues and got her running damn smoothly. One of the previous owners installed a short shift kit and did a pretty hilarious job of it, so I want to celebrate with one of these threads.

What's your shift pattern look like, Veeky Forums?

>tfw autotragic

manuels are only worth it if you have touges

I disagree, OP here. I can't go back to automatic. In fact I sold my nice ass Jag for that very reason, after driving standard for a month. Even in traffic, it's so much more engaging. If I was driving a minivan or something? Sure. But standard is so much nicer in every way. Tactile sensations are great.

Fucking chev cruze

Why not an automatic daily shitbox and a manuel fun car?

Considering it at the moment, but I can't stop driving standard. Automatic feels so wrong.

How do you fuck up putting in a short shifter?

Black: what it should be like
Red: what is actually like

I think I have a worn bushing or something loose in the shifter, it softly rattles sometimes as well and doesn't stop unless I hold the stick.

Forgot pic

What an awful life that sounds
Why not daily a fun car?
Gasp

This causes me to stall occasionally, and any manual driver that drives my car for the first time always stalls.

>I either will try to take off in third
>Change from third to fourth when slowing down. (Doesn't stall obviously but is hella annoying.)
>or change from first to fourth

Anyone had this issue before?

Also while you're in gear, you can move the stick side to side like two or three inches

Don't fucking ask me. 1st and 2nd are literally a C motion apart from each other, and there's dead spots around 3rd that trick you when shifting. I personally like it after driving it for a few days.

Damn famn, that sounds pretty jank

The gap between 3rd and 5th in my car is almost nonexistent. Im used to it now, but when i first got it idk how many times i went from 2nd to 5th and immediately cringed

Because automatic luxury daily with a fun weekend sportscar/shitbox is the best combination.

Forgot that there is barely any gap between 2nd and 4th on the upper one

Had everyone who tried to drive my car in reverse say they cant get it in gear. You just have to use little bit of force, a safety feature. bmw e39

For an Ultimate Driving Machine, the E36 has a really shit shifter. I mean it's placed nicely but the shifts aren't very satisfying, compared to for example an Audi A3 or 80. It really sucks that there's no 6th. I think even the 102hp that I have should be sufficient.
Also there are no safety features for putting it in reverse, just need to use a bit more force than first (compared to pushing the stick down like in Audis or pulling a little thingy up like in Renaults). I almost caused a crash when I wanted to start and I accidentaly used the strength of a thousand furious niggers to put it in first and almost hit a car behind me.

long throw 4 speed best speed

Car's an SW20. Pretty sure my tranny has been run nearly dry at one point.. which makes for an occasional really grindy downshift when I'm NOT DOUBLE CLUTCHIN LIKE I SHOULD

>I accidentaly used the strength of a thousand furious niggers to put it in first and almost hit a car behind me
hue'd

Keeping two cars registered is expensive as fuck where I live, not an option.

that's base model livery

When your daily commute has miles of bumper to bumper trafic going uphill, youd want an automatic.

Why are the even gears always so smooth?

These threads are always my favorite.

KIA K2700

I bought an e36 with a busted 2nd gear synchro.
Dear god, reverse takes so much force it nearly knocks my center console loose.

Guess what car I got

2005 Ford Fiesta. Not that bad overall.

I still catch myself grabbing the blinker like it's a column shifter.

i relate to that reverse so herd. all my cars it just seems like reverse is just not there sometimes

2006 Subaru Legacy. Not that bad to be quite honest.

Worst ever.

this one is basically an anti theft device

coupled with a clutch that has a bite point at 2" of travel i can basically leave the keys in it.

02 Mustang GT pretty normal set up here for an older car. Only thing is 3rd/4th likes to make a rolling noise (bearings?) when I give it gas. Clutch requires many leg days.

I also got an 02. Man my left leg is such a beast now.

The longer I browse Veeky Forums, the more it seems like you guys WANT your cars to be shit, like you had a ton of parts sitting on your lawn ready to be swapped that you aren't going to get around to, you would say "I don't have the time" or "missing some obscure part that goes with it I can't find" but the real reason is you want it to be shit.

I watched a "true car enthusiast" video on youtube the other day and while it started off with how certain "smart" features are shit, it basically delved into saying he wanted his car to be fucked up and be a piece of shit, and WANTED it to be forever broken down and not working. This is white trash degenerate tier shit and basically /r9k/ of driving wherein you choose to be a piece of shit then secretly mutter how you're better than everyone.

I have an S2000 and it shifts exactly like this picture, I guess I'm not in the cool kids car club or something because it isn't all fucked up. Also driven a 20 year old miata from a friend and several old as shit beat down trucks and they all shift exactly like their gear shifter describes. I think Veeky Forums can't be happy unless their car is shit like them.

81 Camaro with a Sag 4-speed. Not sure why the jump from 3rd to 4th is so large. It's the same way in my truck, 1-2-3 are close, big jump to 4th, then 4-5 is close.

Good ol' Eaton Fuller.

I love column shift. Just go SLAP right into D

>implying I ever use 1st

an e30 with what i'd say is fucked shift bushing things, everything on the car is fucked. i regret buying it, but at the same time try to think maybe it was a tiny bit worth buying..
it makes clunking noise/feeling changing the gears too. but it still stays in gears fine and besides heaps of play and being hard to get it into them it shifts 'fine'.

reverse and 5th gear are bad, but i'd say reverse is the worst

Do you ever use 1st on these?

I got a 2016 5 speed, love the short shift compared to my 2008 hilux. I know what its like with the reverse on the 6 speed box, like going to another level when you push over to R.

Bushings

LMAO

2003 Mitsubishi Mirage

I barely ever use 2nd. Normally I start in 3rd. If I'm on a slight downhill, I will start in 4th.

Anyone got one for the FoST?

Bonus if you can guess car

nice blog post, updooted!

Dodge Ram?

Planning on swapping my daily mazda for e36 328 since i drive once or twice a week. can deal with less reliabiality, but cant deal without muh skidz
the e30 is still in progress, will never drive it winter because fuck rust.

yeah, plenty of E30`s and E36`s have got that problem.. mine still shifts nicely. not gonna say like new, but enjoyable still.
when you shift in reverse, does the shifter rub against the console?
