Scratched the old lower cowl on curb, got new plastic and peeled off the old heat shielding. Taped off exposed pretty side, Reapplied with a few coats of high temperature heavy duty headliner adhesive, burnished the foil things with an old dull putty knife. Not super pretty but nobody will see it and it'll do the job.

If you don't have tools or aren't mechanically inclined (I'm guessing you're not because you posted the question), you can add another $2,000 to start for someone to help you build it. Then you've got miscellaneous crap like replacing lines, bolts or re-tapping, hours or days of tuning your carbs if you don't know how to, tires, wiring your electronic unit, etc.. Goes up to like $11,000-13,000 real quick.

Just find some poor schmuck on craigslist that already has a cafe racer built or started one and buy it for $4,000.

Peel the adhesive slowly. If there's multiple overlapping sheets, take it off as one piece rather than each seperate part.

Another little trick I learned building architectural models of all things, when you have accidental overspray of the aerosol foam adhesives like super 77 (headliner adhesive is just a heavy duty version), you can typically get the excess off by letting it become tacky (not dry but pat the state of fluid) and using a pencil eraser to just friction it off. Won't scratch your pint. Just take your time and be patient.

It's a little more relaxed handling than my FZ6, more HP and double the torque. It's 821cc though.
