I should have gone into engineering

fuck off blake

I honestly don't know what to work on next. probably all I'll have ready for demo-day is a functional room selection menu.

So either it's:
>work on a few furniture/decorations for rooms
>work on the menu

You are doing a roguelike right? How many direction sprites are you planning? And will you be doing tile transitions?

Posting again in case the From The Black Lands dev is still on.

I put your dude in TUSSLE. Step 1 of /agdg/ Smash Bros begins.

Snow doesn't pile up in tiny piles like that. It collects in corners and against walls.

Left side of pic related is a really rough shape, try googling "snowed in log cabins" or "snowdrift" for more.

Some minor adjustments

You may look cute, but your behavior is a disgrace to trannies everywhere.
I bet Depressed Trap Dev is hotter than you and would floor your ass in a catfat
STAY STRAY SNAKES

Some airlines are called jet planes, usually smaller in size and short term flights that get people to another close by state/city in only a few hours, have jet engines, these will free fall with complete engine failure. Air planes are larger and will glide in the even of engine failure.

agdg meetup when

youtube.com/watch?v=CPbWMvQwroo

we'll see about that.
fight me bitch

perhapos the menus maybe?

why don't you you meet up with rotate for some hot tranny on faggot action

...

Oh, I see
I realized there was a roof over the part, so I got rid of the snow bank
Does this look any better?

I've got a box but I'm not sure what's going in it yet other than a bunch of trolls. I was originally thinking a simple maze but it's really annoying to position all the pieces

At last we can have our aggydaggy Bros. Melee. It's going to be modeled after Melee, right?

i have a bf
and i'm not a tranny i'm a dev please leave it at that

that's backwards. more snow will collect on the inner corners.

it's ok to have the snow higher on one side of the building to simulate the wind.

mixels eww lol

It's a resource management rogue-like. At no point do you have open character movement. You add rooms onto a massive witch's hut/wizard's tower/manor and make decisions on events brought to you each turn to get resources.

I have a design document to explain further, but the idea to get is it is turn based and resource management. The game is a large part just base building.

I wish UE4's BP editor was as easy to use as their level editor jesus.

and another thing: put some more snow on the roof, right now it looks like a white roof.

You're one to talk fuckboi.

Will I be able to add a 3d character? once I actually get a demo out for aggydaggy to play, I'd love to port my character in your one day. would be fun as fuck.

trans are just faggots who need to be erased.

I've been putting off modeling the head because I don't quite know if it'd be worth making it so I can animate it or not... I suppose I could always add that in later on, though.

This doesn't sound like a roguelike at all.

In this day and age, Call of Duty is a roguelike.

It's actually fully customizable. You can set the engine to be like any smash you want.

Default is kind of a mashup of the best parts of all worlds.

The game's all about adding crazy things from all sorts of games. Mixels are kind of the theme.

Not for a while. The game's built in Pygame.

It has rogue-like elements.

Randomly generated events, permanent death, and other things. It's a non action-rpg rogue-like? If that makes sense at all.

is pygame really fast enough for a fighting game?

Make the head a knight helmet, easy to model, no facial expressions needed.

Body is looking good.

Are you sure? Even if there's a roof?
I'm going to work on detailing the roof later
still haven't worked out a decent snow cluster texture
I appreciate the feedback!

Just Donkey Kong Country it then.

To add to this. I honestly thought the only thing defining rogue like were random events to differentiate "runs" and permanent death, but reading the wikipedia article it seems super specific.

Not really, but I'm hacking the fuck out of it. Hoping to do some OpenGL stuff to speed things up.

A possibility, that's how the stages are done.

Well, "roguelike" comes from a specific game. It was called Rogue. You can download it and play it and compare it to modern roguelikes.

randomization and permadeath are probably slightly less important than it being a grid-based, turn-based dungeon crawler

Have you considered adding a few icicles here and there? Do it moderately.

Lots of non-roguelike games have random generation, permanent death, and other things.

A roguelike is more defined by controlling one character in a level, having non-modal combat, and being step/turn based.

What does that even mean?

Funny that you say to do that. He has a SPACE helmet that I'm basing off of a knight/spartan design.

Thanks, by the way.

3D Models as sprites, basically screengrabbing the animations and putting them in a 2D game.

That's what it should mean but the genre name has been abused so badly it holds very little meaning.

I have no idea what genre my game is then. Everything was a lie from the start. SHUT IT DOWN.

What If I take stills of the character and make them sprites out of the 3d model like Lethal League

youtube.com/watch?v=RcP91tQ4ZSM

Yea, I was going to see if I could make them interactable, though

Totally workable. The stages are actually 3D models, screenshotted and converted to sprites.

...

Leave it to gogem to post a fucking unfunny meme.

i can't handle all this googart

even with a roof, snow will build up against the corners, because it's driven by wind and not by falling straight down.

try looking at snow timelapse videos and reference photos

Shit, I'm excited. You're doing awesome work

meme? it's the DK rap from DK64 the best Rare Donkey Kong game.

Kek. That's exactly why people like depressed trap better, he doesn't have a shitty attitude like you do.

Ok! I'll workshop it and see what I can do. Thanks for all the help! I can tell what I really need are real life references for snow behavior

meetup when

i don't even know what her game is i was just meming lol
lemme see

What makes a game comfy?

How do you make a game that's comfy without making it boring?

How can I make gold look convincingly golden in a limited number of pixels? (not like Atari or NES levels of limited, but mobile or handheld or 16-bit-ish)

was literally just listening to
youtube.com/watch?v=QOngRDVtEQI

Use a gold, brown/orange and white color palette. Use white for reflections.

literally does not matter
a roguelike is any game that uses the rng to make content the player sees

For reference

I like it

I can't wait to meetup with you

I don't

packed with action outside comfy enviroments?just an idea i am not sure myself user
>that pic
be a nodev forever and reach that quality lets say in 2 years or be a yesdev with shitty placeholders, what a dilemma

no stress
good and relaxing music
comfy art like in your picture
gameplay that is somewhat passive but has strategy so it's not boring

rotating neko girl is qt
the grass texture has a square patch of pixel, fix it

I've been doing a lot of looking into this exact thing, actually, and I've come to these following elements:

AESTHETICALLY:
1) Warmth given validation by contrast
- A firelit cabin in a snowstorm
- A gentle guide to keep you company through a confusing world
2) Invoke solitude without the appearance of aloneness.
- a sense of a pocket in time, what it was like to wake up in the middle of the night as a child and not be afraid
3) Characters with depth and quirk
- Studies show players are much more likely to remember characters in a game
- It is important that the characters have their own lives beyond the player, but can let the player in

MECHANICALLY:
1) Let the player customize their experience.
- Players are much more likely to be invested in an experience they feel is unique and not like anyone else's
2) The game cannot be 100% comfy. Maximum comfiness is achieved by contrast.
- There are two types of stress, distress and eustress. Look into the psychology of it.
3) The game must dive into the player's natural idea of what comfort is.
- People have an innate idea of what makes them comfortable. Use that.

I'm sure there's more, and the mechanical parts are pretty much taken from this talk:
youtube.com/watch?v=QHHg99hwQGY
Hope this helps

i want to make a comfy racing game
or a comfy fps

Think about it like metal, dark shadows, reflections, bright lights, then apply a yellow but more brownish and orangeish color scheme

Low stress places to rest that are still lively. You should be able to return to those places after a difficult gameplay segment and do dumb, pointless things or have meandering conversations that flesh out the world.

Also the music is really important, but that is obvious. The ranch in Ocarina of Time is a perfect example.

>comfy fps
elaborate

At least have the decency to use "roguelite" for your game that only has RNG and permadeath.

You wouldn't like it if people called Dark Messiah or Skyrim a FPS because "well it's first person and you aim&click to attack so it's the same thing" would you?

it's an fps if you're a mage
see above

>2 years
user...

How many people use SFML here?

I don't see how casting ice to the ground before kicking people makes it a shooter but ok user.

Yep

Here are some resources I've gathered that display the aspects of comfiness:

This Comedy Sketch:
youtube.com/watch?v=trfHP5LHVNY
- Soft music
- Soft voice
- Sparse sound effects
- “Middle of the night feeling” - Can’t sleep

This Song:
youtube.com/watch?v=ghxweF1WuZ8
- Soft voice
- Simple music
- ‘Small town’ feel
- Warm glow visuals

This Japanese Road Trip:
youtube.com/watch?v=flYiCf2-mFo
- Silence of a road trip
- Japanese vistas
- White noise of the road
- Not alone - silent companion

This Beginner's Guide section:
youtu.be/DatJlgN8ZqE?t=33m53s
!!! Make sure you go to 33:53 seconds !!!
!!! Embedding doesn't skip to the right time!!!
- Dark outside and warm, comfortable inside
- Friendly voice / open and candid
- Small, easy tasks that are not objectives
- “Middle of the night” feeling
- Sharing secrets
- Introspective/Bashful
- Soft, simple music

This Poem:
quod.lib.umich.edu/a/amverse/BAD9506.0001.001/1:11?rgn=div1;view=fulltext
- Comradery
- Simple love
- Not being held down

It's also important to consider aspects of a game that are uncomfortable:
- Uncanny Valley
- Sudden loud noises
- Too serious/too pretentious
- Don’t try to impose wisdom
- Don’t be too pretentious

>overwatch isn't an fps if you play mei
this is you

dont worry 2 years as neet are like 10 for a normal person

So in conclusion, comfiness is about 50% music, 45% art and 5% well paced gameplay

Did you set that whole thing up just to make that """joke"""?

Kiernan is CUTE

>implying you don't just nap in between anxiety fits
I've been there, user.

I was doing something like that with yellow
I tried your way and it looks a bit better, thanks
something to think about
thanks

>Dota is a RTS if you play Veno or Chen

This is you.

>implying i am neet without willpower
user pls

>or Meepo

nah, it all came together naturally

i made this post as an absurd shitpost, replied, and happened to be the post right after. you set me up for the joke with .
