Oh yeah. It's more than functional. It's got a sliver of blue, which isn't super hard to maintain with Readiness (without Razor Sharp), 230 raw, a bit of Ice element, and a Power Phial.

230 is such a massive amount of raw, that it has more power than anything below 210 at green, so the lack of white (without S+2) is honestly not that big of a deal. Also means that the axe hits that much harder as well. And, most importantly, it's sexy as fuck.

I have a hard time consistently keeping the energy charge buff up, I'm always waiting for my meter to go down to at least half before I pop it, and with some monsters that charge up and down the map I've got my sword away running after them so much it fills on its own.

You don't need to actually fill any energy to get the buff. Just pop it all the time. It charges like no one's business.

This basically I've just started playing SA and I've noticed it sometimes charge up to full before I'm even a third of the way through

They first become afraid of having so little defense.
Then they become disappointed that they need to stay about 3 rolls away from the monsters to do optimal damage, making them wonder what's the point of them being ranged.
They are all plebs.
