I used to play AST before I picked up WHM because I wanted to get all the healers capped saving SCH for last as I don't like having some of my healing power being behind a minion that needs microing. AST is still my one true love when it comes to my preferred healer but god damn do I not like how low my DPS feels at times. Plus I love the card gimmick which usually turns people off of it.

It's most likely due to the fact that in-game it was synced up to the flow of the battle and emphasized it.
Me personally, I just adore that final 30 seconds of the full version. It just gets to me, man.

SCH isn't that bad, the skillset you get is pretty dam nice, you just need to get used to using a slightly different set of keys that you assign to the pet hotbar

I'm the same, though when I get stuck as main healer I just go AST if I can and try to make up for dps loss with cards on whoever is doing the most.

Love cards, kinda wish there was a tiny bit more control so I would stop getting spire -> ewer when I already have one of them burned with royal road. But that's the only tiny gripe I have. Glad we can't go spire -> spire anymore.

Cards can be fun but I think Scholar will always be my go-to. AST feels too much like a bastard child of the two for me to really get invested.
