My neighbour down the street is moving and he wants to sell his 1991 BMW 850i.
1991 850i V12 Auto 4 SPD 120,000kms $8000 Canadian dollaroos
As a trucker-fag, I'm barely home two days in a week so I'll prolly add very little kms etc. But how high of a chance is it that it'll leave me stranded etc? Also, what are common things to look for on 1991 models etc.

Auto? Into the trash it goes.
Dominic Diaz
>AT Why would you ever? I don't know this specific one, but letting a car sit around and hardly ever move it will ruin it in a heartbeat.
Owen Hernandez
The only manual 8 series being sold around me has 201,000kms
I dunno, 100kms/week should keep all the fluids flowing and rubber from hardening, no?
Leo Peterson
>100kms/week definatly m8
also dont listen to those faggots about it being auto, its built for cruising

JUST

If I knew there weren't too many gremlins running around, I'd snap it up. Auto or not, and there's not too many auto Bimmers I'd make an exception for. 100km/week is fine.
Get chatting to the neighbor and get to know his experience with the car, gauge it from there.

Hi fellow Canadian,
Just remember those V12's are very finicky and so are the electronics thats go around it. I've had a few I6 and V8 bmw's and they've been decently reliable. Try and aim for those instead
Pic related, my current one

Annual maintenance is about 5K per year. Parts are expensive and it's a complex beast. Does drive like a dream.
Source: I own two.

BMW has always been a mix of driving dynamics (even if they completely fucked that up) and comfort (not that it really does that we'll either). People would respect you autocucks a lot more of you'd just admit you don't like manual instead of being a baby who makes excuses constantly
Tyler Gomez
You own two what?
David Butler
If you want a clean classic car sometimes you have to fly to the other side of the country.
Kevin Anderson
One 850i and a CSi.
The is going out.
Carson Sanchez
Fair enough. And pics with a shoe on each hood.
Ayden Rodriguez
850i is a bitch to own and fix, you'd be better off with an 840i
Jose Bell
kek m8 ive never owned an auto, i just appreciate that in a car you're not going to be ragging the fuck out off carving up canyons, its alright to sit back and cruise. people would respect us manual lot alot more if there wasn't overly defensive people like you.
William Lewis
bmw has much better manual cars than the 8 series
Ethan Turner
Good call. He isn't around a lot, what with moving etc but I'll deff msg him and see what's up
No decent 328i e92's around these part with low mileage that fit my budget :(
If 5k is annual maintenance, how much is your annual usage? Car I currently DD I bought back in December and I've put 8000kms on it since. It'll prolly be the same usage if I buy the 850 too. Summer isn't too much of an issue as I can always work on it in the driveway. Winter is what I'm scared of. Also, common breaking points/things to watch for?
I don't give a damn about garage Queens or matching serial numbers etc. If I had the tools and technical know-how, id be throwing away the v12 and chucking in a nice inline 6. Dd-ing a classic and making it work daily is more enjoyable to me than having something that has all service records etc but you're scared of driving cuz adding even a single km will decrease it's resale value etc.

Pretty sure the manual in the 850 is glass tier. I've heard there are all kinds of problems with the sunchros if you use the wrong trans fluid. Overall though, the biggest issue with these cars in general is parts cost. It's a 20 year old limited run vehicle marketed as a grand tourer to compete with Maserati and Aston Martin. Parts costs are astronomical.
Juan Gray
what mercedes is that?
Connor Morgan
You could probably sell that 850i for a profit and buy both a 635i and a 560sec
Eli Hernandez
Just get an E31 V8
the 850 is a money pit and auto is gay.
Jace Cruz
560SEC i think
Dylan Phillips
Sell for more than $8000?
Don't they share a lot of parts with the same gen 5 series? I remember reading that the brakes are the same as the 540i of the same year etc
