DaS2 had the worst gameplay in the series though.

Just moving your character was a chore, the lock-on was so shit it might as well not exist, can't pivot, can't combo R2 -> R1, awkward delays after certain action, massive stamina drain turned fights into staring contests, objectively the slowest movement in the series, adaptability, etc.

I don't care how good the weapon/spell variety is and such, it's not worth the literal pain of DaS2 gameplay.

The Darklurker is easy once you have a good AoE spell you can cast when it does its second stage. The first stage is hardly challenging since its tells are all super fucking obvious.

The Black Knight weapons pretty much destroy DS1 PvE. They stay good until the endgame and are kinda considered easymodo desu.

That isn't really true of either smash 4 or ds3. I'd say they're considered more casual-friendly. As products they're far more complete and polished, as they don't rely on lucky accidents. DS1 and Melee got their names out, but they were cult games.
