That, to me, makes it the "canon" Chara.

for better or worse, Chara's at the root of pretty much everything bad that happens in the game, and since they only directly appear when nothing else remains besides you and them, they're also permanently beyond redemption or understanding, which in Undertale is pretty much the same thing anyway

you SAVE every other character, Asriel included, by getting close to them and understanding what drives them. Chara stays permanently out of your reach, and as a result is permanently beyond redemption. all you can really do is clean up the mess they left behind
