What was the biggest blunder of 2016 this, Tokyo Babel or Supipara?
Chase Morgan
babel was just an expensive license. CB was an entire game, so probably the latter.
Hunter Rogers
Probably Tokyo Babel thanks to A list seiyuu. Must have cost a pretty penny.
Connor Davis
Has it dropped in Japan yet? I wonder how it did there.
Mason James
Have you read W happiness yet?
Juan Garcia
Evolve stage 2. They made a AAA $60 title F2P to get more players, then immediately killed it again with shitty balancing that caused a 75% player drop.
Or are we talking just VN's? In which case i'd say Dies Irae's announcement was the big blunder.
Nolan Edwards
I don't even know why they went with the episodic kinetic novel format with zero marketing or hype. It's like they wanted to fail.
Caleb White
Do you think there were people who boycotted it in Japan because the West happened to get it first? That'd be kind of funny.
Connor Sullivan
...
Tyler Jones
I see your Rise and raise you another.
Jordan Richardson
Is it over? did they finally die?
Dominic Young
Yes
Jace Torres
but MG shill thread was the better thread
Robert Collins
Let's make /vn/ a Yuuritopia!
Aaron Mitchell
About to get an injection of funds from the chronoclock kickstarter so no.
Connor Gutierrez
>fallen wine glass near her crotch That's just asking for trouble really, Le Soleil d'Ecole should know better.
Mason Fisher
>Is it over? did they finally die?
Not a chance with all that chronoclock dosh. It's probably lonely because everyone is out getting shitfaced drunk.
William Morris
they'll probably only get 25% of it, honestly
most of it will be spent on the rewards since it's primarily being used to sell merchandise.
unless they go the way of RD and don't give the backer rewards
Eli Lewis
i hope so
Isaac Roberts
They have the release for January and yet have only done 30% of the translation in the 14 months they've had it. It's definitely going to get hit with a delay.
Cooper Lee
oh, i don't doubt that. they most likely won't have it out by January.
interesting thing to note though is that the 18+ tier has over 3 times as much people supporting is as the tier which only includes the all-ages version.
Joseph Richardson
So much for 18+ content not selling.
Jordan Parker
Gotta admit, Key writing is pretty shit, but they know their way around pathos.
Mason Harris
I'm not sure what causes companies to think "Hey, let's remove all the porny elements, we will surely sell more then" when dealing with a niche market in a genre where 18+ stuff is the norm rather than the exception.
Logan Carter
Is Key working on anything interesting right now?
Brayden Scott
>Key >interesting Only if they hire Romeo again.
Aaron Peterson
No thanks, he can keep his Shoukomeza shit to himself
Jayden Turner
I have a feeling that I would love clannad if their pacing wasn't so absolutely atrocious. Had to drop it after two routes so I just watched the anime and had a good ol' time.
Charles Wilson
It's probably the worst thing about key games in general. I like LB! a lot since it was one of my first visual novels, but I'm never re-reading it. Too much fucking bullshit.
Landon Gomez
i've heard rewrite was a lot better with the pacing, but i'm still half dreading reading it. Can anyone confirm? I've pushed it back twice in the backlog...
Jacob Cooper
If their writing is successful in evoking an emotional reaction out of you, doesn't that mean in some aspect it is good writing, even if in other aspects it is not?
Samuel Adams
Rewrite's pacing in all the routes is fine, more or less (the non-Romeo routes a bit less so). The common route is like 10 hours long, but it's honestly well paced and a pretty enjoyable ride.
Alexander Rivera
Are you new to /vn/? Everything can only be amazing or shit. There is no middle ground.
Asher Fisher
I haven't read Clannad, but I wouldn't say Rewrite has a great pacing. It does slice of life extremely well though, so it's not really a problem.
It's only one side of writing, it doesn't make it good. I cried at Planetarian and I still think the writing was underwhelming and unsurprising.
Jason Collins
>10 hours long I'd have said twice that.
Sebastian James
>underwhelming How so? Do you mean the prose? Maybe I'm just not cultured enough, but my general opinion is that while great prose can really enhance a story, decent prose that gets the job done is fine and not a negative in the slightest.
Does a story need to be unpredictable to be good?
Nathan James
Possibly. It's been a long time.
Zachary Bell
pathos is generally considered more lowbrow because it's purportedly easier to do, or something.
personally i find it hard to get emotionally invested in stories to the point of crying, so i respect stories which are able to do that--or anything close to it--more than most people do, i'd imagine.
Isaiah Diaz
I'd disagree, pathos is pretty easy to fuck up. I get emotionally invested in pretty easily, but I've seen too many things that are obviously a to make the audience cry and it just doesn't work. I wouldn't call Key amazing, but they sure know how to work the crying formula.
Jaxson Morris
no
i'm a disgusting EOP
also filthy frank taught me one word of japanese from his 'i eat ass' video
Brandon Stewart
Is this the greatest kamige of our time?
Grayson Barnes

Utawarerumono. It's kamige.
Michael Butler
Umineko. It's kamige.
Michael Sanders
i'm just repeating to you what i've heard most people say in regards to pathos, be in on Veeky Forums or otherwise.
it varies from people to people, you know? and how much exposure they've had to various kinds of media. as you say, once you've read enough, watched enough film, or heard enough music, all the emotional manipulations become more and more overtly obvious and it's easy to become cynical about it.
it's definitely a talent in-and-of-itself to make works which consistently make seasoned readers cry. i'm not really big on Key (as i've only read a work or two of theirs), but even my friend (who is a cynical as they get) supposedly cried to Clannad. but then again he hasn't had too much exposure to visual novels in general.
i think what Key really needs is a good editor.
Samuel Baker
So this is the thread that won? good.
Benjamin Jenkins
Yeah, that's what I mean. I rarely cry at anything and the other day I watched the Air anime and sobbed like a little bitch. Of course nothing works for everyone, but Key is pretty skilled at pushing a wide range of people's buttons.
I agree on the need of an editor.
Logan Torres
No, that would be Fate.
David Nelson
How many people are in this pic?
Aaron Parker
Saya no Uta its kamige AND you could finish it in a night
Dylan Stewart
Three
Angel Adams
I never cried until after I got divorced. Now anything that reminds me that I'm gonna be alone and never have a family that loves me sets me off. I cried like a girl a lot during Grisaia, especially during Yumiko's, Makina's and Anime's route.
Alexander Wright
Play Eden, it's great.
Matthew Edwards
>Anime's route
Jason Watson
read katawa shoujo. It's kamige
Asher Sanders
That isn't Fate/stay night.
Nolan Russell
Z E R O (0

I already have twice tho
Ian Harris
user was typing through his tears.
Dylan Murphy
Idk if you're joking or not but Disabilty Girls is actually an /evn/ kamige
Elijah Smith
Would it take me longer for me to learn japanese or for Dies Irae and Subahibi to be translated?
Zachary Hughes
oh boy yumiko's ending with the happy child you have together must have been rough
Adrian Kelly
Nice blogshit retard.
Fuck, I'm sorry man. I hope things work out for you.
Ayden Morris
>Western visual novels should be posted here, and Japanese visual novels on /jp/. Translated visual novels are allowed on either board.
Yeah, it was bad.
Colton Thomas
at least you got further than most of us have. I can't even find a girl that shows interest in me, let alone divorce me.
Christopher Jenkins
It is translated, into MANY different languages :)
Ethan Ross
im sorry for opinions
>Pending Complete Translation lol >Ayakashibito decent chuu2 >Boob Wars bad >Boob Wars 2 good moe nukige >Bunny Black fun characters and setting. ok gameplay. >Canvas 2 bad >CLANNAD nakige >Daibanchu great game. LONG. >Demonbane very fun chuu2 and frequently filled with self-parody >Duel Savior fun game. >Eden good and short. >Ever17 bad pacing. good twists. >Fate/Stay Night good. though the dry and mediocre translation undermines it for EOPs. >Forest more interesting than good. just plain bad in the english translation. >G Senjou Maou i hate this one personally, but it's very popular and loved so it's worth giving a shot. >Grisaia funny. has a very good translation. a bit too long and some of the routes are just shit. >Hanachirasu entertaining read even if it isn't as good as Muramasa. great translation. >Higurashi no Naku Koro ni entertaining. >Hoshizora no memoria the type of moege i don't like. but it has its fans. >Ikikoi lol >Imouto Paradise god-tier Itou Life art. >Kamidori if you like grinding and dress up it's a good game. >Period really bad. >Planetarian nakige >Quartett entertaining and short. >Rewrite good, though inconsistent. >Saya no Uta great and short. >Sekien no Inganock wait for koestl to translate it >Sengoku Rance very fun and often challenging. >Sharin no Kuni decent. only Looseboy i could stand. the protagonist and antagonist make this one (as it should be in all VNs) >Shikkoki no Sharnoth wait for koestl to translate it >Steins;Gate overrated, but still pretty entertaining. >Swan Song very good. >ToHeart 2 no >Umineko the most polarizing VN ever? >Utawarerumono everything is great except the gameplay
Kayden Brown
Bunny Black 2, Yume Miru Kusuri, Tomoyo After, Cannonball - Neko Neko Machine Mou Race, Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai + the sequels to it (you've seriously not done this one?) Beat Blades Haruka, Cho Dengeki Stryker, My Girlfriend is the President (Also amazed you haven't read this one)
any of those would be good choices based on the things you've read, but i'd recommend Majikoi or My Girlfriend is the president for first picks.
Nolan Smith
...
Cooper Powell
>everything is great except the gameplay You should write VN reviews. I'm not joking.
Lincoln Kelly
Yume Miru Kamige and not Moege
Justin Barnes
so tsun
Eli Myers
Umineko is definitely the most polarizing VN. Never seen such a stark contrast between love and hate in a fanbase.
Aiden Brown
Why is this?
Lincoln Phillips
Newfags play it and think it's the best thing ever because it's long and meta, while patricians realize how stupid and poorly written it is.
Asher Ramirez
except for grisaia
Caleb Ward
Since I was younger, I've always had a fantasy where a doctor tells my sister that she needs my cum to live, and then we'd fuck daily, sadly it never happened
Is there a VN like this? There has to be
Nolan Wilson
>inb4 not relevant
i feel weird that I've dumped hundreds of hours into VNs yet have only completed two and I'm halfway through a third.
Liam Sanchez
How is that even possible?
Justin Baker
He played two 50+ hour VNs? I know a guy who said fate was over 200 hours for him.
Ethan Rivera
maybe he's one of those guys who listens to the entirety of the voiced dialogue.
Landon Hernandez
>Read KS >Read Grisaia >Read KS Again >Halfway through LWR
Oh wait I forgot I also finished PE It must not be that memorable
Ryder Watson
>I know a guy who said fate was over 200 hours for him. what the fuck
