not really. I test drove one. if you are used to not having abs and trac control, you'll be fine. very torquey however, and feels like the car is ripping itself apart at high rpms

an E30 is an E30 . The handling chassis and refinement is legendary. This is coming from someone who has driven 991's NSX's and owned a R32 GTR, I would happily trade any of them for a 318i. They were that fucking good

Unobtainable yes, however No its not that radically different, and there is a robust enough aftermarket to make a base E30 out stop out run and out handle an E30 M3.

The torque the 8.0 produces is insane, and would be the reason I would hands down choose it every time over the Porsche 3.3.

Mine was a '93 with 211k km and I had ZERO problems with the engine (Cleon Fonte 55hp), didn't even burn oil whatsoever between changes. Do you think that I would have been able to travel literally half of Europe in a car with an unreliable piece of shit engine?
They were decently comfortable (all French cars are), spacious for a car of this size, could even sleep in it thanks to foldable front as well as rear seats.

Actually yes, I have owned one. Was a dark purple one I bought from a friend with extremely low mileage. Other problem with the car was poor performance in cold conditions and rust, the floor rusts through in one or two proper winters.
Only redeeming thing about the car is the foldable seats, that's about it.
Other good or even better cars for the price would be a god damn Corolla or a Civic. Leave the shitboxes to the japs.
THere's also cars like the Ford Fiesta, Focus, Ka and other Ford shitboxes.
