Sup Veeky Forums. My grandpa just passed away and left his meticulously maintained '03 330CI to my dad, who has no need for it and wants to give it to me. It's a Red 5 speed with 130k miles. Should I drive it or sell it? I'm a student, have a job but it's mostly to offset the cost of my tuition. Is the maintenance and insurance gonna kill me? Or could I swing it?

Pic is not the same car, but same year, color, and level of maintenance.

itll bankrupt you, sell it

t. not a brainwashed fanboy

I inherited my grandpas E280, im going to keep it as long as possible. I use it for special occasions, mainly use my corrado for DD.

But it really depends on the financial situation. Inmyself couldnt bring myself to sell something that belonged to my gramps but to each their own

Keep it yo, part of grandpa is in that car.

It would probably work ok as a DD but be prepared to take it to the shop

>all these poorfags saying you can't DD a 13 year old BMW

What's with all these grandpapy's dying around here?

People dye user, its sad but true, its their car that lives on

>red bmw
your grandfather has shit taste user sell that trash

If its well looked after and you continue to keep it up to date with maintenance then it should run great for a long time.

Also that's a one clean ass ZHP

Alot of people who browse this site are old enough to where their grandparents are running out of time.

Sell it and buy a civic

You're a student, you have no business driving and maintaining a car like that.

>5 speed
>ZHP
Educate yourself

Id keep it. They arent really that bad. Check the oil constantly, and change EVERYTHING on time.

Nice car, good history.

in OP's picture dude
Educate yourself

Keep it and drive it for a while. Make sure you maintain it; they are surprisingly easy to service yourself if you are so inclined. All these broke ass snowflakes don't know shit. Once you sell it you'll regret it.

Hey. I don't want to believe that, but if it's true, he's now in the land of free gas. In my opinion, if grandpa used to care about it, I'd drive it. That's a big... gift and even if you were to stance it or whatever we find cancerous but with the intention to maintain the condition, it will be seen as nice of you, if you care about such things. I find the front bumper happy looking and personally would take extra job activities paying for such a nice car.

That isn't a ZHP either. Reverse search it.

it'll maybe bankrupt you if you earn less than 1000$ per year

All that mod work on an auto lmao

I would never sell that car.

I'd hit that..

But for serious, keep the car, especially since it had been well maintained. I'm sure whatever that could go wrong with most BMW's of this age (cooling system, vanos, etc) has already been taken care of by your pops. Enjoy it man

>student
>part time job
>is paying tuition
>owning a 13 year old BMW, specifically an E46

you're delusional. OP keep the car if you want to be in a perpetual state of circling the financial drain.

I'm all those things yet I daily an E46.

You're a fucking retard

Actually, just because you know the history is worth to own it. Even if it wasn't 100% correctly maintained, it's still better than buying literally any other car in like a year.

I daily drive a thrashed and abused 21 year old base model 3 series. It's never broken down once, and apart from everything in the door breaking, a dodgy starter motor needing replacement, and alternator and general maintenance and premium fuel (that's 95 unleaded in australia), it's had no problems. Keep in mind that what I just mentioned is EVERYTHING that's ever needed replacing on the car.

Also, I'm a casual next to minimum wage worker who works 4 hrs a week 80% of the time, I also don't spend all my money on my car, because all I need to buy is fuel, oil, and oil filters. OP will be fine.

>specifically an E46
that's the fucking point you imbecile
E46s are probably the best daily drivers you can get, there is literally nothing expensive that can break on the car unless it's got an automatic tranny
I'm all those things too yet I daily an E60
bmw haters are fucking delusional

> bmw haters

You mean hondafags and miata drivers who were given their cars by their gay fat uncles or got ripped off by somebody who tried stancing it but failed.

OP here. Seems like the general consensus is I should sell it. My grandpa took good care of it because that's the way he was but I know he wouldn't mind me selling it. I will try to make sure it goes to a good home and not some vaping stancefag.

That being said. Any anons looking to buy a clean 330

>hondafags and miata drivers who were given their cars by their gay fat uncles or got ripped off by somebody who tried stancing it but failed.

show me on the track where the mazda passed you

Damn I was starting to think I was the only one around here who messes with corrados

If it's mechanically well-maintained, go for it. Would make an extremely satisfying daily driver. Don't listen to the idiots here going on about how maintenance will kill you etc...

My daily 911 hasn't needed anything other than oil changes, wiper blades, and tires (tires being by far the highest cost) over 3.5 years and 37k miles. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

...

>sunroof casette goes bad - $2000 (unless you want a wet interior for the rest of your days
>subframe rips out - $1500
>entire cooling system - $800
>all window regulators basically time bombs
>rear trailing arms - $300 + an entire day unless you want to snake down the road
>control arm bushings (theyre basically paper) - $400
>VANOS - $800
>shitty oil sensor & gasket
>sheared rear springs are apparently super common - $200
>auto climate control unit goes bad, LCDs go missing - $200
>whole interior rattles & outside trim falls off because shitty clips
>central locking unit locking you out of your car - priceless

These are all extremely well documented problems, and simple google searching bimmerfest, e46fanatics, and bimmerforums brings up hundreds of hits and threads on each and every one of those. Bonus argument: you're going to call the E46 a "sporty ride" and high class, therefore it requires more maintenance than your typical car. pro-tip: no one will be impressed by your 13 year old shitbox that is literally rattling and falling apart at speed. Enjoy that crushing debt and remorse when your doors get blown off by a corolla.

>corrados
I'd love to have one you lucky fucks. I used to work in a small machine shop with about a dozen employees and two of the other guys drove corrados. One of them actually has two of them. He bought them both brand new and one has over 300k miles on it without being significantly rebuilt or anything.

yea these are all common issues

inb4 bmw cucks go full damage control

I don't hate mazda's, they just like to be faggots when the honda's do it to look cool and fit in. Miatas are underpowered but I've got no problem with them, they are gay though.

Honda drivers are actual children that scream and stamp their feet when somebody who likes other cars is enjoying them self or saying something positive about a non-honda. The worst offenders are usually all civic drivers, and people who bought a black accord and think it's the equivalent of a c-class but without 'muh shitty german build quality'.

Where do you live OP?

>tfw both of my grandfathers died when I was a toddler

feels real bad man.

>stealership prices
I feel sorry for murricans

Somebody's butthurt about getting the honda from mommy instead of daddy's bmw that's gay and shit and unreliable anyway. Did I mention that hondas are the automotive equivalent of god, and literally shit on everything because nice cars are too expensive for a cuck such as yourself?

Samefag

WA

Before anyone says "hurr durr don't go to a stealership, do all the work yourself", consider the fact that OP is a full time student AND working a part time job which he uses to pay off tuition. Do you REALLY expect him to have the time, let alone the money to deal with all of these bullshit issues?

If you really like the car or you don't like the idea of selling something that was once owned and cared for by your grandfather, keep it around until you have the means to maintain it. But for god's sake don't DD this thing around, you'll regret it in the long run.

>actual children that scream and stamp their feet when somebody who likes other cars is enjoying them self or saying something positive about a non-honda.

literally what you just did about bmws you fucking autist

btfo

BTFO

Just because someone doesn't like the idea of driving around an unreliable old piece of shit as a daily doesn't mean they're a hondacuck :^)

summer is hard for old people

the E46 is the king of used cars
fun, cheap to maintain, decent build quality etc.
My mate owns a 330ci drift missle, he's been beating the shit out of it for the last 5 years and the car still runs like a champ.
Keep it user

You will never have an oppertunity to have a free car again

It would have to cost its current bluebook value in repairs to make it not worth it

>cheap to maintain, decent build quality

but your absolutely wrong

that's a total non-argument. I'm trying to save a student/part time employed person from being crushed by a bad idea. Do you even know if OP likes spending every weekend under the hood trying to keep a piece of shit BMW on the road so he can get to his classes and work on monday? You are one daft motherfucker. Those aren't dealership prices. You won't find someone selling a sunroof casette for lower, because its a common problem and people know what they're worth (And so do wreckers).
Those prices are pretty close to indie shops, and good luck getting OEM BMW parts for those prices. you'll pay double.
>yfw you realize after keeping this vehicle that you'll need to invest in a bushing press, a voltmeter, a bunch of special tools

but at least you'll have that sweet whip that some shills on Veeky Forums and a microscopic online community approve of!

>at least you'll have that sweet whip that some shills on Veeky Forums and a microscopic online community approve of!

KEK

Pic related, it's OP in 2 weeks

Mimic isn't btfo at all mate. It's not being able to come up with a response.

lmao rough idle?
BUY A NEW BATTERY
BUY A NEW IGNITION COILS
BUY 2x FUEL FILTER
BUY 2x FUEL PUMP

literally bmw owners in a nutshell
just throwing parts at a car and complaining online

I'm the OP and I approve this message.
Don't get me wrong, I have the ability to work on my own cars and have a fair collection of tools. But I have maybe 20 free hours a week that aren't spent working or in school. Yeah it's a slick car, but to me it's nothing rare or special. It's not like E46 BMW's were produced in limited numbers, and I could really use the 5 or 6k I'll get for it.

>the 5 or 6k I'll get for it.

post on a bmw forum and take a fanboy for all you can

Fucking this. You'd probably be able to get 7-8k out of it and you'll know it will go into the hands of someone who will treat it right.

>bmw
>microscopic online community
Lol whut?
BMW has the biggest online community out there as it's the most tracked car brand world wide, sorry user but you are very clueless

calm the fuck down mate. there's a bit of lotion over there for your clenched arsehole and nipples if you want.

Now, you're not saving anyone or giving legitimate advice. You are a neet on Veeky Forums trying to feel like he knows about cars by telling someone who's probably already made their mind up what to do. That's his grandfathers car, and whether or not you think it's a fiat tier unreliable piece of shit (protip: it's not), it has value and meaning to someone who is given it. yes, it might not be the best dd, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have it and enjoy it, he'll wish he kept it if he sells it this early.

There's obviously something wrong with America, they're shithouse excuse for mechanics who can't work on anything but cheap jap cars and american shitboxes that don't know the meaning of sophistication and not making a car that is literal pigfat.

your still a hondacuck though. whether or not you like it, you take nippon dick hard and lap u the shit that spews out of the mouth of other subhumans on the internet. Of course you've never owned a bmw, don't even try to lie. I have, and it has far less problems than something that has an engineering and rd budget equivalent to your stepdad's salary at the used car dealership specialising in hondas and dodge rams.

>the most tracked car brand world wide

damn bro, you got any sources?

>There's obviously something wrong with America

were arguing about bmws not the superiority of the mighty american

I live close to the austrian border so I got a few of them for my friends

A E46 is nowhere nearly as bad as a older E36 or newer E90 to maintain, and being a 330ci it's at least worth maintaining for the driving experience you get. Not to mention it was owned by your grandfather so at least you know the history behind the car and what was done to it, as opposed to buying some pos owned by a normie who just did oil changes. I'd take a look at the rubber parts including/especially tires to get a idea for its condition.

Find out if it's a ZHP.

I don't even drive a honda, where the fuck are you getting this?

The OP agreed with my advice either way you braindead fuck. Literally btfo, no proofs, no evidence, you're just scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point you shitposting fanboy. Don't take your misdirected anger out on me because of your buyers regret. Fag.

This butthurt bavarian meme works fanboy believes that anyone who insults his precious driving machine drives a Honda.

here.

>buying a car that requires $4700 worth of maintenance in the first year of ownership

LOL BMWfags are delusional

I guess i'm just a dumb Amerilard but why do people even fetishize these cars? I've driven it fast, it's easy to kick the rear end out and 2-3-4th are pretty close together, but I wasn't really that impressed by the speed. Is it just because it's a BMW?

Spending $8900 from 18k miles to 88k miles isn't normal, but on BMW it is!

>Is it just because it's a BMW
yes

keep it. Its your gramps car, and not some buick. If its the 330 in the pic that is gorgeous car. If you dont drive it just drain the fluids and store it

>and apart from [long-ass list of problems], it's had no problems
I agree with the people saying he should keep it, but there are cars you can own for 21 years without needing that many replacement parts. It's one reason old Miatas are popular enough to have become a meme car.

Are you gonna pay for my storage fees? Long term car storage ain't exactly cheap... What do you recommend I do, lug it around with me till I die?

I've owned a 2004 325i for nearly 4 years and I've spent no more than 800$ in maintenance excluding tyres (I drift a lot)
Bmw haters are below retarded, what are you trying to prove?

I'm sorry, OP, death occur, but your grandpa had a taste - he could have bought a Metro.

>tfw poor family forcing to think of a car only as a pricey appliance, no fun allowed

probably because the previous owner went bankrupt fixing it.

>bmwfags so delusional that even in the face of multiple examples of evidence, they are hard on denial

kinda like liberals

>330CI

Its not like its a old muscle car his grandfather had for 30 years, it most likely was just his grandpas daily driver that his grandfather put no thought into buying.

I've actually owned multiple BMWs, all of them have had at least 220k miles and above, currently own a 280k mile 5 series and all of them have been nearly perfect, I'm not buying anything other than a Merc or BMW in my life ever. The overall package that comes with a Bimmer is just too good

>overall package
>has less options than a camry
>almost as fast as a camry

get over it

Pics or it didn't happen, Honda's rarely make it that far on their first engine.

I can find such "multiple examples of evidence" for literally any manufacturer including your beloved brand and car.
You're a delusional fanboy

why would a stereotype exist if it didnt have basis in reality

bmw's are money pits

My 2004 5er has as much options as a 2010 camry, costs less, has better sound insulation, better interior quality and is RWD.
Here's my cars mainenance history report.

sell it and get a lexus or something

>one owner
>dealer maintained
>senior owned

jackpot nigga

>440 km on a 2004 525D
I'm a burger but that's well over 250,000 miles. I thought yuropoors didn't drive. Was this a taxi?

it would have at least 350k miles if it was a taxi
it was a daily driver for some belgian, it has driven approx 62 miles per day which is not much in Belgium/Germany because Autobahns
Most older cars like this have more than 400k km, it's normal

>sheared rear springs are apparently super common - $200

Protip: They break because people drive with worn out dampers.

...

Protip: they suffer that problem because only BMWs make springs so shitty that theycant support the weight

protip: you're a fucking retard

>I'm too dumb to come up with an argument so I'll just call him retarded

BMW fans, ladies and gentlemen.

The red looks a bit terrible but the E46 in general is a great car

>he's using an ad hominem
>refutes with ecological fallacy

This thread is cancer

>one side using opinions, baseless claims and insults as an argument
>other side is using facts with sources

Sure is cancer now that you're here.

:^)
EbiN 1 m80

it's more like:
>people who have never owned a german car trying to tell several
bimmer owners they are delusional

Dampers do not have noticeable affects on the spring's longevity, they're not meant to support weight. All dampers do is.. dampen. They reduce the oscillation of the springs, that's all. If the springs can weaken and fail due to increased oscillation... That means that they suck.

De-rice the kidney grille and go rip some mad skids while enjoying that inline 6 soundtrack faggot.

BRRRRRRAAAAAAPP
