Registering it will cost you quite a bit. If it can pass

I live in Florida, we can register just about anything here :^)

>Buy Honda Beat for under $1000
>Ship it for $1500
>Pay $100 for customs
>Have super cool RWD RHD Honda
>Drive it until your legs fall off

HOW DO YOU DO THAT
CAN I IMPORT A CAR FOR LESS THAN 3K? REVOLUTIONARY

If you can find a shipper and customs broker to get you a good deal, and find a car that's over 25 years old and in your budget, kind of.
It would be hard to get under 3k, but under 5k, definitely.
I've researched it a lot looking for any kind of hidden fees, and there aren't any major ones.
The guy on oppositelock (which yes I know gawker is garbage) imported a R32 GTST and spent about $8500 in total. The car cost him about $7000 at auction

Also though keep in mind, depending on where you live, you might run into problems with smog, inspection, registration and insurance. I have a feeling that insurance would be high on a RHD car, but I don't have any experience

wheres a website

Those screenshots are from pacificcoastjdm, there are also others like japan-partner and if you're a lazy faggot with too much money there's japanses classics llc

>pacific coast
oh no
im on the wrong coast

man if i could get something vaguely sporty in decent condition thatd be great

what a pipedream, this was neat to learn about though

By pacific coast they mean Japan. I'm in Florida, and I've read that the shipping from there to Jacksonville is about $1500 is not less.

>florida
Ah so I see you are also a victim of awful price gouging and just terrible owners in general

oh hey I'm in Florida too
so those fees are all we would pay in addition to the cost of the car?

Just as an example: I imported an R32 GT-R and in Nevada I am paying about $60 bucks a month insurance. Your state/experience may vary.

>>Drive it until your legs fall off
You mean when you rear end a minivan and the engine and tranny get shoved into the same space your legs occupy?

Bingo. To buy a CRX in worse condition here would be the same if not more that importing the one in OP.

Also, pacificcoastjdm shows all the auctions going on in Japan right now. You contact them about what you want to bid on and what your max price is, and they go and deal with that for you. If you win, they then pay to have it stored at a port until you pay. Once you pay for the car, you pay to have it shipped to wherever you would like. Here are the customs duties on an R32 GTS-T, so for a cheaper car they would be less.
3. Customs Entry $ 200.00
4. EPA Filing $ 50.00
5. DOT Filing $ 50.00
6. Single Bond $ 104.00
7. Customs Duty $ 156.34 ( Estimated )
8. Terminal P/U $ 85.00

That's really cool. Did you do it yourself or through another company? Do you have any pictures?

The engine's in the back in the Beat :^)

>even shitboxes in japan are better cared for

Also like I said, here's a guy documenting his process. I don't want to sound like a shill, but the way he makes pacific coast auto sound it seems like a great place to go through. They seem to cover any unexpected expenses, and do a lot of the negotiating for you. Here's the article, and he spent a little over $7000 in TOTAL on his GTS-T, and those cars are $4000 to $7000 at auction

my best bet is probably importing a kei car shitbox
which would still a better option then most of whats here rightnow

I did it through Japanese Classics out of Virginia. I got it early on before the rice tax started to really hit so it wasn't too expensive for me.

Pic related. Sorry it's dark.

A kei car would be so cool to have. It might not work well on the highways, but a lot of those kei hatchbacks can fit 4 people comfortably, and there are even turbo AWD ones that can be modified to make pretty good power (for their weight). They also would make great city cars since they're so small, and they would make great roadtrip cars (maybe on the back roads) since they get such fuel fuel economy.
Jesus Christ I just realized how much I sound like a nerd.

That's really cool. R32s look to aggressive from the back.

Wow OP inspiring very

I'll import a Japan car as my first car! I'm very poor but what can go wrong? I have never even driven much before
How hard can learning rhd and manual be
It's going to be great
What can go wrong
Maybe I'll be happy some day

How did they determine the value of the car if it wasn't sold in the USA? Or is it just liability?

I wouldn't import one as a first car, but learning rhd isnt really that hard and manual is easy. I don't really think that there's really that much that could go wrong, especially for a honda which no matter what will have a huge aftermarket.

I just want a good fun first car that I like the look of
But everything is destroyed in my area

What's your area?

>people are selling Honda beats for 9000 dollars here

It's full coverage. I did my insurance through Grundy Worldwide. They are normally known for doing vintage and classics, but they are doing "modern classics" now too. And the cool thing is that now that old Japanese performance cars are becoming more known in the US they knew what it was. We talked and set an agreed value for the car, which is how they based their premiums. We agreed to 25k total value (I'm all in at about 19.5k counting the car+shipping+paperwork). The GT-R is not my daily driver, but for a little more per month you could daily it through them and it would be insured fully.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. If you're not, let me know and we can talk about it in email or something if you want
Seems like a pretty good business opportunity to me

>trying this hard for underage porn

I'm not being sarcastic I'm being serious

Why are you talking like that then

Should I buy a Honda City GA2 and import it?

You could get a better car

What does it feel like to drive a RHD car? Just wondering.

Normal

>tfw no comfy Suzuki Lapin

For anybody interested, these are all the fees that the importer covers or doesnt cover. Anything else that unexpectedly will be covered as well.

And to anyone else:

Plenty of people have already imported kei cars into the U.S. -- and other 25+ year old Japanese cars for that matter.

Use something like autotempest.com/ to search all the other car selling sites at once. Sometimes you will find a good listing, and you won't have to go through the importing process.

Some owners might be looking to sell locally and never list the cars online. I once saw a kei car with a for sale sign in the back window at a local car meet.

That's good advice, but the only problem with not going the import process is that you're going to have to deal with the JDM tax

But the point is that I don't have money not that I can't find jdm cars

I just want something light weight with a high revving engine

Suzuki Cappuccino

I got 3k user

Just buy a usdm civic or save up another 2k

I can't buy a usdm civic

Why not

They're all fucked

Also I want at least dohc or an old sohc turbo user!

I dont think you'll be able to import a turbo car for that much.
Why not get a $2000 miata and then do a really simple turbo on it for 1k

I don't like miatas they're too impractical

fuck you

What

Post your craigslist

No? Why are we even on this topic? Why did you revive the thread
