/hou/ - Bringing it back

Previous Thread: The fourth meet was actually quite successful, we had a few bumps along the way but by the end of it all it was went pretty good. Now in the last few days, there has been a sudden surge of aggressive behavior. It's like a few have forgotten what /hou/ is all about, you have forgotten that we treat each other like family, that we don't just attack on other members for absolutely no reason. Since we started this there has never been a thread like that before and I hope we don't come to that. A lot of you have been complaining that some people forgot the route or got lost or split away. You know, these things happen but the least we can do is understand the reasons behind them. Another thing I've been noticing is an attitude problem, some of you think "My way is best way", not bothering to listen what other people have to say. Y'all need to remember one thing that is there in every OP, /hou/ strong, /hou/ family.

Listen, you all were acting like children in the last thread. Quite frankly, it is embarrassing to me, and I suspect to the entire crew. I was not at the meet for reasons that I have only disclosed with SC, but its no secret I think this group needs clear direction and leadership if it wishes to move forward.

I propose then the next monthly meet to not be a driving meet but instead to be primarily a meet to elect a hierarchical leadership.

I propose that the hierarchy looks something like this:

President
|
V
Vice President
|
V
Route Planner/Navigator

(Additionally, if it is deemed necessary in the future there should be a Treasurer role that sits at the same privilege level as the route planner/navigator. However, I currently see no reason for this role to exist but we should keep an open mind.)

I propose that election rules carried out in this manner:
1. To be eligible for a position, one must be nominated by another known member of /hou/. In other words, you can not nominate yourself for a position.
2. If nominated the candidates may vote for any nominee included themselves.
3. All members in /hou/ carry the same voting power: one vote per person per position.
4. The vote must be made at the meet in person, and the meet to be held at a previous meet spot generally accepted by the crew.
5. A candidate may not be elected to multiple positions at a time.

Please give thoughts on this. I feel that this is the most important issue facing hou/night.wave currently.

I just finished making the song for Night Wave : soundcloud.com/strivik/night-wave-strivik

Also made a music video with whatever decent footage I could get. youtube.com/watch?v=wy07-jZBdOU

Now as I mentioned in the OP about the previous thread, I also want to add that the complaining that some people are doing is absolutely unnecessary. Many people are putting their time and effort into /hou/. The decisions that have been taken place in every meet has been a collective effort, mostly done by a few individuals however any input that people give is taken into account seriously, there have so many ideas floating around, the fact that everyone is saying something to make /hou/ better is everything someone can ask for in a club. However, when people decide that instead of contributing they will just complain is actually being counter productive. It ruins the mood for many, it causes unnecessary friction between people. Whoever it is needs to know a few things, if you have an idea then post it, let the people decide how it goes, if no plan has been placed don't complain about the plan that was placed out of the blue, either you help or don't complain. This was the case in a few meets but especially the recent one, since there were only a few days left and nobody decided where to drive. So then a plan was created and that was the ONLY plan available to us at that time, so we went with it. Then I hear talk about "Who's bright idea was to come here", well that was the plan we had, if you have a better one then post it and see what everyone else says. I don't want to go on a 6am rant but some of you need to remember how peaceful it was in the previous meets, how everyone enjoyed their time without any complaining. That's what I want for /hou/, we can't grow that much if there is people start to dislike each other. /hou/ is a family, it will always be, it's just up to you if you want to be a part of it.

I agree with the majority of your post, but I'll offer some suggestions to help refine the idea.

1. No top-down hierarchy, since this structure is conducive to power struggle, inequality, and may cause further hostility. I suggest in its place something akin to a senate, congress, council, roundtable, a group of people formally nominated to make decisions collectively where everyone's voice is heard and one doesn't take precedence over the other.

2. The treasurer and navigator positions are just extensions of a previous suggestion that was established on the principle of every member fulfilling their own unique role(s), and maximizing the inherent potential, abilities, and resources of every member as they come to realization. So not really a disagreement, just highlighting that this idea has been put on the table before in a different form.

3. No one should be able to vote for themselves, even if nominated. Allowing that privilege will never do any good.

4. It shouldn't be forced to be held at a previous meet spots. All of our previous meet spots have been less than ideal for various reasons. We should find an adequate meeting spot that meets criteria other than "can we all congregate at this location at this time." Somewhere that's not crowded, noisy, allows us to hear each other without interruptions. The future meeting spot should still be a group decision, nonetheless.

5. The multiple positions is a moot point if we end up favoring a council/non-council structure.

I think its best we rent a conference room or something if the sort for next meet for one hour. Something thats says 'we are congregating, and no you cant join us'

Dont do that shit man, we are just two strong headed people.

How about $5 for a 40" soft case if I ever show up to a meet?

t. lurker

This looks like a good future home of /hou/ meets. Happy tea has refreshments and decent tasting food and dnb may have some games and drinks, but all we do is talk in the parking lot

Looks like a place Cuckholds Anonymous would meet

Stop bullying eachother ;-;

Ho' boy, time to go downtown to get probed again. Stopping at Pearland first to get some gun parts first.

>at work yesterday
>showing client some listings
>mentions his car isn't running to well and 'takes 20 sec to go from 0-60'
>He's seen me poking around under the hood of mine
>asks if I could 'take a look'
>He owns an e46 and I've owned one so I said sure
>before opening the hood notice the front bumper is held on by hardware screws just drilled in to god knows where
>look under the car
>various fluids everywhere
>'pop the hood man'
>engine bay is bukkake'd with dried coolant
>ask if he's been having coolant issues
>'yeah how did you know???'
>tell him to start it
>honestly doesn't sound to bad, but a little weak
>open the airbox, no filter
>ask when the last time he 'had the car serviced in any way
>'I dunno'
>I just tell him to take it to a specialist I know, but it probably will be expensive.
>'Eh, you know I'm just going to take it to a scrap yard, I was looking at getting one of those new m4's anyway'
>mfw

Seriously, if I didn't stand to make $10k off this deal I would have slapped him.

sacre bleu

>/hou/ has a great meet.
>Miss it again and spend all weekend working on my car instead.

Got my new radiator in though, works great, just no mounting brackets for it. Held in with zipties now.

Rich people man

If he's literally just going to scrap it, I'd be interested in it at scrap value just because it'd probably cost more than its worth to fix it right, but it could be worth it if it hasn't been killed.

Just listened on my lunch hour and then listened again in the office. Nice work man.

It's a shame my coworkers can't appreciate anything other than country though, they seem to be yelling at me to turn it off.

Did i read that right that you are unironically interested in buying it just because its an imminent moneypit?

Props on the video and the song mang

Did /hou/ ever get stickers? I missed a few weeks and hadn't seen anything, so I was wondering if anyone had made any.

No, I'm interested because I like E46s and if it's not too far gone to scrap, I'd mess with it in my spare time. Worst-case, taking out the seats, selling them and the wheels will net more than scrap value, so I'd make a profit regardless.

I prefer the E30, though.

Yeah, but there weren't too many. Most/all got handed out IIRC.

What the fuck does this mean?

its a grand caravan

It's a convertible though

Maybe its an entire extened family sharing the 1 van?

What does /hou/ listen to while driving? My MP3 player finally died on me and 94.5 gets old quick. Are there any good stations nearby?

I'm pretty much always playing Pandora when I drive

I like calm music when driving, but I will listen to some classic rock or even synthwave.

Classical
>Debussy
>Chopin
>Beethoven
>Liszt
>Bach
>Stravinsky

Rock
>The Who
>Pink Floyd
>CCR
>The Rolling Stones
>A few various others

Electronic/synth/everything else
>Carpenter Brut
>M.O.O.N.
>Power Glove
>Perturbator
>Lazerhawk
>HEALTH
>HOME

It really depends on the mood.

>walk into patient room
>see this
Oh no...

Reminds me of the time I got my hemorrhoids operated on.

Usually I have SEB playing during togay runs, but this meet I had Zello routed through my speakers via bluetooth.

>Also made a music video with whatever decent footage I could get. youtube.com/watch?v=wy07-jZBdOU
7/10 would watch again.

Sups guys. I just pulled in to LA after driving from Washington yesterday and spending 15 minutes throwing up at a rest area last night. Still need to tale my gf to visit her family in San Diego, then hopefully i'll be in Houston by Thursday.
Calicucks watch out.

We have a website that's currently under construction.
hou.haruha.ru/

Before anyone throws a fit, the real website will be hidden behind the banner. The geocities shit is just the front page.

If anyone is interested in helping with the actual website, let me know. I'd like the actual website to have a calendar, some links to /hou/ related stores and websites, and maybe some non-incriminating picture galleries and videos. Perhaps some after-action reports that aren't incriminating as well.

Maybe later we can even add some guides for working on the various cars we have.

I got motion sickness from watching that video

Never mind, then. the Excalibur is the only convertible that I need.

>inequality
>privilege
get fucked, commie

this isnt the clinton foundation
everyone already has an equal voice and if you have a good idea people will take your side
before and during meets most the people that do take charge BEG for suggestions to be voted on

no one is being oppressed here you bernout faggot

>No one should be able to vote for themselves
i dont understand this. why not?
if they want the position, i want someone who is enthusiastic about it.

really i think a lot of this is unnecessary, if i wanted a perfectly scheduled itinerary and play time i would call my grandma

>i come to these meets to drive and bullshit
>i dont cry if traffic or lights break up the group
>i dont care if someone takes a wrong turn
>i dont care if people leave whenever they want

>navigator
the MOST important person
they should know the area, have some form of GPS, and have Zello

>implying you don't need a Miata or antique British Miata.

The only thing that we HAVE to start doing is meeting up at or near the start of the driving circuit.

This meeting downtown and driving 40/50 miles to start the driving portion is idiotic and wastes time and money for all of us.

Absolutely. That's why we're meeting at Buc-ee's for next month's cruise. It's got a huge parking lot and is right down the street from where the route actually begins.

If we ever run the Livingston Circuit, we'll be starting from the Smiley's gas station at 247 and 980, or if pre-run activities are needed, one of the restaurants in Huntsville.

147 runs should be started at the McDonald's in Montgomery

Dagumi Circuit should be started from somewhere in Katy if there's nowhere suitable closer to Brookshire itself.

Why are you being so whiny? Chill the fuck out.

Just radio station wise:
92.1 if your into classic hiphop
106.9-107.5 for classic rock
88.7 for NPR
97.9 for trap shit

that's all I listen too pretty much.

pretty sick, dope song btw. Sounds like something out of Hotline Miami

>complains
>doesn't suggest anything

Glad you're here.

I'd argue that he doesn't need to suggest an alternative to point out that an idea is terrible.

>motion sickness from a video

Why do you even drive?

Let me propose a compromise then.

I propose that instead of a strictly top down hierarchy or a strict oligarchy, we instead use a board system. In this system there will be multiple board members each carrying one vote on issues facing the club. Leading discussions and being the face of the board will be the Chairman carrying a vote power of 2.

In this scenario, imagine that there are three elected board members and one chairman. The chairman leads discussions, and the board meeting. As edtablished, the chairmans vote carries the weight of two board members, so he wields great power at the voting table. However, if the board unanimously disagrees they can overturn his decisions 3-2.

I believe this to be the best of both worlds giving us a group of people carrying the torch while providing a clear figurehead that the rest of the group can look to.

Also, on the subject lf self votes, i believe it important that anyone should be able to vote for the candidate of their choosing including themselves. The problem of too many people voting for themselves is already solved by not being able to nominate oneself. A candidate must be nominated by another member.

Also, the reasoning behind holding the vote at a previous meet spot is to avoid people feeling as if they are being forced not to attend by holding the vote at an unfavorable location. Holding it at a previous meet spot (like DNB or something) gives us assurance that everyone can feel as though there was no foul play involved and no malicious intent was had.

One thing extremely important thing i forgot in my previous post is term length:
I propose that a term for all positions should be six months at which time another election will be held (prior to the monthly drive meet).

>What does /hou/ listen to while driving?
Not the damn radio, that's for sure.

I stream anything I want from Google Play Music.

Mostly proggy stuff like Between the Buried and Me, The Human Abstract, Pain of Salvation, The Contortionist, etc.

+1 to this

I'm liking the idea of a gulf-coast run.

I'm curious as to the possible effects from a relatively short exposure to salt-air.

What's the point of self-votes? Everyone's just going to go "hurr durr i nominate me" anyway.

I'm not a web dev, but I am a sysadmin and I'm willing to help how ever you find my skills useful. I've even got a DL360 kicking around if anyone wants to pony up the $20/month in electricity the thing pulls and keep it at their place.

I literally just explained this. You can not nominate yourself. Therefore you can not vote for yourself unless someone else nominates you as a candidate for the position.

The purpose of a candidate voting for themselves is to give the candidate the option to vote for the person of their choosing like anyone else. Everyone should have a vote.

I've already got hosting.

The only thing we need at the moment is a website that wasn't designed in 1998.

What CMS are you using?

Gotcha. I can still help some but my html/css/js is pretty limited

I'm going to nominate Dagumi for president and Dracula for VP.

Any objections?

None at the moment.

Mostly I'm using Dreamweaver.

>I think its best we rent a conference room or something if the sort for next meet for one hour.

No need to pay for a place when public libraries have meeting rooms that can be signed up for. My various public library branches all have public meeting spaces. What the library doesn't want is commercial activity so no sales meetings for some pyramid scheme motor oil company allowed.

Since the library has projection screens you can even show stuff on it. Our libraries provide the digital projection unit too. Your /hou/ core membership can also get together at these meeting places to plan out the next proposals before posting them.

Or we could just do Chuck-E-Cheese as is the current plan which nobody has yet objected to so far.

I would assume there are plenty of us that don't want to be decision makers / planners.

I blast Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone when we're going 90 down a backroad

To me Gs and Dagumi seem to run the speeders group, dracula and miata running the cruisers with SC switching between the 2 but leaning towards speeder

>Miata
>Cruisers
Do you have him mixed up with the British Miata? Miataanon runs fast.

I ran with Dracula this last time. That old barge of his is more agile than you'd ever believe.

Are you kidding? I never got further than 20 feet from him.

lel

Sup Crocodile Dundee.

FUCKING NORMALFAG GET THE FUCK OFF MY HIGHWAY

why phone why

good god i finally got into contact with that fag from revs auto. i decided to leave a one star review on their facebook page and he rebutted and called me like 20 minutes later saying the supercharger will come in two weeks.

Well, fast for a 25 year old Miata.

My car isn't really powerful enough to be the leader in most cases. I only took the lead for the end of this last run because I know the area.

We need to get people with faster cars familiar with the routes. I'd be happy to teach someone the Livingston Circuit if they're interested in learning the course.

Fuck yeah! Fate/Stay Night!

Thanks y'all, perhaps next time I can get more footage, it's hard driving and recording at the same time. I hope Butthurticus can help me out me out with that when we go to Galveston, at least get a drive by shot of every car.

I nominate Butthurticus for designated cameraman.

I like the music.

Gets pretty busy in the middle, but it's overall aesthetic as hell.

Term length should not be six months. That's longer than the entire club's lifespan, depending on your definition.

vote for them double Ds

DESU Dagumi and Dracula should be el presidente and el vice presidente for life.

neither of them are active enough nor do they actually do any organizing.

Fuck off back to California with your lies.

If anyone needs a fun car, houstonmiataclub.com/forums/index.php?/topic/3643-92-miata-cherry-condit-67k-mi-for-sale/

I'm looking at you, Butthurticus.

i nominate myself for treasurer

nobody buys glow sticks
nobody except william and dagumi bought their sticker.

if people would pitch in then it would make buying this stuff easy and and not all on me for once. plus managing to get those t shirts in a group buy?

>nobody buys glow sticks

The point of the nest mini-meet is to flush out details and see if we can arrange actual scouts for the routes.

The mini-meet can be wherever, but the next "Touring Event" will meet at a large gas station or restaurant adjacent to the starting point.

We need to choose the route at the next meet; not through some straw poll that gets voted on by who knows who, and decide the location that day. From there, scouting assignments are handed out and we will have two additional hours of time for driving. If we meet at the starting location, then there's no waiting around for an hour, driving to a location, waiting for everyone to arrive at THAT location, and heading out like idiots without a plan.

You can't nominate yourself.

>$6,000

oh stop it bby you know what i mean

if you dont nominate me i'll nominate you :3

>67k miles

i second your presidential nomination

Pic related.

>Lake Jackson

Where, oh where, could our Spoderstang be? Where, oh where could he be?

Thanks m8,that was the plan with the downtown footage, seeing the the high rises at night with empty streets, except this time it was busy. The empty roads of Sam Houston National Forest also give it it that dark vibe. It goes with the music.

No idea, but this is going to be a laid back cruise so everyone can participate even if they're driving a truck or a minivan that can't attack the touge.

Someone will have to pick up Butthurticus before the meet though.

Whoever has the max comfy ride.

KEK at nominations, implying /hou/ is not already run by a few.

ultraviolent was going to pick him up

Also, there is a $2 toll on the bridge across San Luis Pass, so scrape together some quarters.

...

you have a point, why even fuck with what de facto structure we already had. it wasn't messed up backed then, so why is it messed up now? what changed? new people, that's all.

can we stop to pan handle for a while
