Is this the 86 regularcars reviewed?

>How do I do carbs?
but Veeky Forums says stay away from carbs

Is this Matt Farah's million mile Lexus?

Yes.
>the wheel is in that position when driving in a straight line

no fucking way

I swapped an '86 F150 from EFI to a carb. Holy shit what a mess, it ran better in nice weather but as soon as shit got extreme, it turned into a pain in the ass. Anyways here's a small list of things you (probably) will have to do

manual fuel pickup
mechanical eccentric with mechanical fuel pump (will probably require a new timing cover with fuel pump provisions)
new distributor gear
in line fuel pressure regulator
new cables for everything

be prepared for the thing to run like dire ass when its done, enjoy your 3 hours of fine tuning and finding microscopic air leaks around the carb

usually there is a kit. there is for my car if i wanted to.

but its expensive, and an engine swap is cheaper

I mean thats what cars are about
if you have a problem get out
EFI is 10x worse

i want to swap in a silver top or black top 4age , carb it, and turbo it.

why would you bother with a mechanical pump at all? its more work

I don't think you understand how much more work keeping a carburetor tuned efficiently is
mechanical fuel pump was one less thing to go wrong since the electric systems in old fords are nightmares, and i didnt feel like splicing in a pressure regulator since the fuel pressure with an electric pump was like 50-60PSI at the engine

plus with a mechanical fuel pump, fuel flow is dependent on RPM so you're never really starved unless you're trying to make retarded high numbers.

um you know you can just use a electric pump meant for an carbed car right?

>EFI to CARB swap how?
By putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger so you don't pollute the world with your idiocy.

no need for the unwarranted condescending tone. I think I made myself perfectly clear why I used a mechanical pump in the post above

you have to drop the fuel tank to swap the pickup out, made more sense just to pull the electric fuel pump and slap a mechanical pump on the front. saves you more headache down the road when the el cheapo 9 psi electric pump takes a shit

Swapping to carbs? What kind of retarded boomer shit is this?

>libcuck millennial detected

its the option when you want to swap an engine into something but nobody else has done it and you dont want to bother with ecu shit

eh not all old cars had good efi

some had throttle body injection. not better than a carb

So, it's the option for retards?

hey man, listen to m

My point stands.

why the fuck would you want to turbo a carb?

Is that a roush?

because hell yeah? why not?
I think I can I think I can

This feels more and more like a Corey thread.

...

Turbo and carbs don't exactly work nicely together

Teach me how to do it
I've been working carbs since I was a kid

it would depend on the carb you chose, and where you put it, before of after the turbo

Fuck off Akuma zeto beat everyone on the Wangan with his carburated turbo L type

if you put the carb after the turbo it will be much harder to tune.

Not if you have even a passing knowledge of diagnosing and fixing an EFI setup

For the first time ever,yes.

...

thats not what this is about

it kind of is? i mean if the efi was fine nobody would want to.

It's a reply to you making a blatantly false and stupid statement
>if you have a problem EFI is 10x worse

he never even said that...

you belong in /datsun, I don't think its too gnarly, just make sure your block can handle the induction.

people have been doing it for a while, I'm sure you can pick up some books on it.

>you belong in /datsun
but I drive a FWD shitbox!

Fabricate intake manifold, mount carbs, tune, delete cate, deal with Christmas tree dash

Is this bait?

Why would you take a perfectly good silvertop then remove the EFI THEN fuck around trying to turbo it?

Why not? I want to put it in my integra

>its like you dont want to have fun

Just like putting an i5 in a AW11 would be fucking awesome. Is there any reason to? No. Would it be dumb? Yes. Does it matter? No. Fuck the nay sayers.

Too bad you don't have to technical know how to make it happen. Fucking fag.

/datsun is not full of tards like the rest of /o, we usually just want to finish off our shit...
dude i saw a GTS Corolla over in pick n pull the other day, was a shame to see it go like that, motor was still in there.
I also hear that people are using motorcycle carbs for d series n stuff? something like a CR carb? My Honda bike runs those currently. If you go that route;
carbtune.com these carb tunes are really good instruments.

This book is highly recommended from others that work on older motors that have forced induction and carbs. amazon.com/Turbochargers-HP49-Books-Spark-Ignition-Applications/dp/0895861356

its pretty cheap too, consider it as reference material if you want to actually go through the project.

faggot

Serious question.

What are the benefits to carb conversion? Why do you pl do it?

For a racing engine project, is carb better?

i can't imagine that there is a performance edge that a carb would give you, its probably like 10-20hp on the peak power? Except that the price point is much cheaper(thousands vs hundreds), and really it does not require electronics.

I think pro-stock cars are currently only running carb setups. Everything else has moved over to EFI. Carbs certainly are cool tho, the airflow sound it makes is nice.

you can get the same thing from an ITB swap.
ITB has all the benefits of the carb, none of the drawbacks.

pic related, carbs

ITB = individual throttle bodies?

What is the difference?

generic ITB image

um one throttle body per cylinder
most cars have just one

Yeah the sound ^_^

I better read up on it.
Any good books to recommend about throttle bodies / carbs? Racing fuel delivery?

That looks sexy.

and carbs again.
i do not want to get into the specifics of it, but the benefit of individual runners with no plenum is better running when you have a big cam. it sort of tames the cam a it. side affect is improved response and cool noises.

It really depends on budget and what you're looking for.

Carbs are usually cheaper/easier to build, but EFI offers many advantages in tuning and power efficiency.

carbs have style too.
efi is usually ugly

Im thinking about an inline 4 with ITB.

can you get them custom built?
Im looking into older carbed engines, is it relatively simple to make the ITB conversion?

99% of the time you just order the weber intake manifold, and buy the throttle bodies separately.
then you run a megasquirt or whatever

thanks

i am not sure where you buy these now, its been over 10 years since i built a motor like that.
not ebay thats for sure, bunch of rip offs.

in the meantime i have mastered webers.

Find an older manifold or make your own; pic related is a fabricated manifold:

was that a mercedes

Same engine with a sourced carb intake; adapted to use a Ford carburetor instead of a dual Solex setup (Intake is from a Peugeot 604)

interesting.

Do carbs have any benefits over ITB's?

No, but it had the same mechanical fuel injection system; Bosh k-Jetronic garbage. Certain parts are nearly impossible to find these days; those that are available are crazy expensive, so I had two choices: EFI or carb. I chose carb because it was easier than trying to create and tune an EFI setup.

Mostly it's just the lack of sensors. If you're running ITBs, you still have to adapt the sensors it requires for proper tuning and, while it's about half as many as ITBs, it doesn't offer close to the degree of adjustability that ITBs have. ITBs are an awkward hybrid of carb and EFI that lacks the benefits of either setup.

While carbs may be fading remnants of boomer tech, they're remarkably easy to learn. I don't claim to be an expert, but I was able to adapt my own Peugeot intake setup with no outside help and I'm 27.

Im 26, finished Uni few months ago. I honestly cant wait to start working and investing into my passion for cars.

I have a lot to learn but once I start at least I'll be doing something.

Carbs might be a good start for me, I plan to buy an old carbed car anyways. I just want to make it better with some racing intake/carb/fuel delivery, among other things.

It would serve as my ''learning curve'' vehicle.

K Jetronic is basically an amal carb spread all out in a way
that weird air meter works like the piston

honestly i posted pics of webers because they are truly the most simple of carbs you will find on a car.

they are still being made in several factories for some strange reason too.

timsroadster.com/html/tuning_webers.html

Yes, but parts are not readily available for it in the US. I like to actually drive my cars, so I prefer my cars to be as simple as possible.

>timsroadster.com/html/tuning_webers.html

Thanks for this link, I will look into it, especially the carb in question.

>disk brakes to drums?
>regular lights to pop up light?
>ABS to non ABS
Why do you want to down grade? EFI is superior to carbarated.

>i didnt read the thread, the post

Turbonique was so based

>not bulking with lots of carbs
never gonna make it

that pic had the only example of blow through vs draw through i had

...

Carbs are less ideal for turbo. Get mfi for tunability at wot only. Enjoy your toy car.

Carbs are literally steampunk for gearheads
All steampunk faggots like obosolete, underperforming, unmaintable shit

>being this much of a numale

First of all, "obosolete" isn't a word.

Carbs are still used in many industrial applications where electronics are a hindrance. Anything that will sit for prolonged periods is better off with a carb; that's why nearly all small engines have them.

Under-performing is debatable; here's a great article about setting up a 5.3 motor with both carb and EFI:

superchevy.com/how-to/engines-drivetrain/sucp-1104-ls1-carburetor-vs-computer-performance-test/

tl;dr the EFI setup is significantly more expensive, more difficult to tune, and saw a net gain of 20 horsepower. If you spend the same amount on a carb setup as an EFI, you can buy more and negate the difference; if not come out ahead.

Carbs are also extremely easy to maintain once you get used to them and can be rebuilt for next to no cost.

Made me reply/10
