I've owned multiple and now I have come back with a Mercury wagon. They're fun and get comparable gas mileage to that of a Suburban. You have to accept that you will never be able to corner. But nothing will ever beat a barge on a comfyness level on a boulevard cruise.

How reliable are these old American Land Yachts?

Very little electronic fuckery to go bad, so assuming you can work on a 76 liter engine, bretty good. The worst thing for these cars is rust. Mechanicals for the most part will hold up with proper maintenance.
