Seems like even though there are entire shops dedicated to repairing air conditioning, it still never works quite right once it goes bad the first time - and if you try to DIY, no one really seems to know what the fuck they're talking about, especially on car forums. Threads typically diverge into "uhh yeah just replace everything and hope it works".
If you take it to a shop, they dye the refrigerant, fill it up, and tell you to come back when it stops working again. Then they replace whatevers leaking, and tell add more dye and tell you that, while they fixed the leak, everything else could be leaking as well because path of least resistance, etc.
All of while spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for a (((potential temporary fix))).
This begs the question, why are automotive AC systems so shit, and why are shops so shit at "fixing" them?

Haven't had any problems with it yet, except, of course, needing a refill.

Having to refill refrigerant means that you have a leak

It's not a meme, your a moron.
AC systems are full of seals and orings that wear with age. In the lines, compressor, etc. If one seal is weaker than the other, it will break. It's nature, rubber gets brittle and Components also go bad. It's amazing right? You use something all the time and it wears down.
The reason most people think AC shops don't fix it is that they don't want to pay for the right fix. They want to be cold again for as cheap as possible. So they don't want to pay for a full service, like :
Vacuum check, fix leaks, vacuum check again. Fill system with freon, ensure all parts are operating, replace worn parts. Fill again.
Very costly compared to just filling it up and waiting to see what may leak. The second method saves on labor, by making you do the leg work. They just fill it up and wait for you to say its out again. Then they see what may have been dyed. Then replace parts and do it again! You will end up spending the same for a much less pleasant experience.
All of Which you could do yourself at an auto store for less. They sell freon and dye.
While half are, not all shops are shit, it's cheap shitty customers. Either pay the price to get it done right a a real shop, or do it yourself. Don't get mad that a shop won't give you $500 worth of labor for free.

Did you read anything in that post or are you the intellectual equivalent of a brick wall

Are car engines a meme?

If you take it to a shop, they take your car, keep it for 2 weeks, and tell you to come back when it stops working again. Then they replace whatevers leaking, and tell add more 'gasket repair' and tell you that, while they fixed the leak, everything else could be leaking as well because path of least resistance, etc.
All of while spending thousands upon thousands of dollars for a 'potential temporary fix'
This begs the question, why are automotive engines so shit, and why are shops so shit at fixing them??

I have the same refrigerant in my car since it came out of the factory 13 years ago. I think some cars just have shit systems.
