Radar Detectors

My old Cobra has stopped picking up on 99% of cops, whats the best newer one these days?

Escort Max2 HD or Max 360. Anyone who says Valentine hasn't bothered looking at radar detector s in the last 5 years. It's old, outdated and underperforming. It doesn't have GPS lockout, it's way to sensitive and they expect you to connect your phone to it for any modern features like redlight and speed camera detection. The 360 has the directional arrows making the valentine obsolete. Any modern Escort is far superior to Valentine.

i use a v1. it's great, but not very good at filtering false positives on x and k - luckily the cops in my state only use ka and laser, so I just turned those off. I wouldn't recommend it if you need x or k.

>Hurry durrr I'm too poor to afford a v1

The fuck outa here

The Max2 and 360 are both more expensive. Like I said, anyone who recommends radar detectors hasn't looked at any models in the last 5 years.

You're literally poor and retarded.

> Like I said, anyone who recommends radar detectors hasn't looked at any models in the last 5 years.

I'm retarded..Anyone who recommends Valentine radar detectors....

>650$
Daaaaaaamn I suppose its one of those "pays for itself" things but shit radar detector's got expensive.

Thx 4 reply user

V1 sucks bud, it has for nearly 10 years

So you have to buy a new $800 radar detector every 5 years because cops upgrade their shit?

Nah m8.
Besides, if you're driving where there's speed cameras or running red lights, you've already lost.

Git gud

No reason to spend more than $400. The more expensive ones are fancy gps units. Arrows are a meme.

The filtering fucking sucks and it performs the same as the now discontinued X50. Escort makes waaaay better detectors now a days. Get with the times arrow sucker

Yes

Hopefully your need to speed in illegal places subsides within those 5 years.

Then there you go, a V1 is 399.

>The more expensive ones are fancy gps units.

Yes, exactly, grandpa. They lock out false signals from stores and other sources. The valentine won't do that and will go off every single time you pass the same location with a false signal. It also won't tell you when speed and red light cameras are coming up.

I have no issues with the filtering on mine. I wouldn't want some bonnet controlling my radar detector and being able to block cops in locations either.

So whats a good one for under 400? All of the one's I'm seeing besides the v1 have a bunch of tacked on bullshit I don't need
>iPhone app (Why???)
>Exact Radar Location (Even v1 sort of has this, but I don't need the exact fucking location)
>Anti False Positive (I don't need this at all, my buddy's has this and it doesn't alert him to cops all the time)

I just want a barebones radar detector that is up to date with latest pig-tech without the gimmicky shit. The V1 looks to fit the bill but from what you dudes are saying its old as shit.

> I wouldn't want some bonnet controlling my radar detector and being able to block cops in locations either.

It doesn't work like that. A signal is only locked out if you manually do so, or it sense the exact same signal in the exact same location 3 times. Even then the display still shows the signal, it just doesn't beep, and you can unlock it if you choose.

V1 is also shit
Who the hell said i buy valentine crap or live in a speed camera hell hole.

Git gud yourself.
Its 10 years old, and should have been discontinued a long time ago. Its a meme buddy. Way better options. Enjoy your poor range and false alarms

>hey m8, want to make a few bucks?
>just turn off the warning for this here speed camera on your map, and send out an update to all the cucks

-The Police

Anything escort. And sorry no radar under 400 is good. Only shit radars filter cops, ur buds radar is trash

>The V1 looks to fit the bill but from what you dudes are saying its old as shit.

Yes, it is old and outdated. YOU WANT GPS user!!!! It'll save you from pulling your hair out if you drive through even a small town. The Max2 and the V1 cost the same, but the Max2 is far superior in every way. It'll automatically lock out signals from stores and other locations if it detects it 3 times. The V1 won't do that. If you live even in a small city, GPS on a radar detector is a must.

I'm pretty sure the Max has GPS, and the Max2 does for sure.

>Who the hell said i buy valentine crap or live in a speed camera hell hole.

Sorry, thought you were saying GPS lockout is a gimmick.

My V1 blocks k and x when going through towns without any fancy bs GPS.
I also can mute it by pressing a button anyway.

Enjoy having to drive past that store 3 or 4 times before your shit detector blocks it.

>My V1 blocks k and x when going through towns without any fancy bs GPS.

That's a shame, because small town cops typically use K and X band.

>Enjoy having to drive past that store 3 or 4 times before your shit detector blocks it.

Your ignorance is showing. You can manually block out a signal by tapping the mute button 3 times, and the same to unlock it.

My current (read decade old V1 tier radar) doesnt have it im just fast on the mute. In my new car im hardwiring gps lock out is a must. Then again, my radar has better filtering than the v1 lol

Typical V1 fag. Enjoy getting your ticket blocking out whole bands because your 10 year old radar cant filter for shit. Meme user, and you are a sucker

>Max2 HD or Max 360
So what makes the 360 200$ more expensive? Is it worth it?

It doesn't completely block it or block all k and x. Just the ones made by doors

Besides, why would I be speeding through a town like some maniac?

If you can't see the cop before you're close enough for them to legally radar you or in the "i'll give him a chance to slow down a bit" distance, you shouldn't be going that fast anyways.

What's the difference between a cop on the highway waiting to radar you and a deer waiting to total your car?

The Max2 dropped in price recently. When I bought mine it was $530, I think. As far as I'm aware, the only major difference is directional arrows, but I'm sure it probably has improved sensors and hardware, considering it is a few years newer.

Objectively, it's not better. The Max2 still has GPS lockout, redlight and speed camera detection, and can use the Defender database, which is basically like Escort's version of waze, but on steroids. Your detector sends the signals it receives to the database and will alert others. Basically, it's like waze but your detector does all the work for you.

>What's the difference between a cop on the highway waiting to radar you and a deer waiting to total your car?

Your detector can pick up the cop over the hill, around the bend, or down a far straightaway. You can't do shit about a deer.

>signals it receives to the database
Why would you want to help others?

I take it you've ever used waze before.

I have, it's useless for my daily commute.

But the deer/hobo/etc is more likely to be there than the cop

Maintain a safe speed for conditions you stinkin boyracer

>I take it you've ever used waze before.

Fuck me, I can't type today...so, have you used waze?

>excuses
>shilling 10 year old tech
meme arrows, not that great. Not even exclusive.

Because they help u too narcissist

>escorts are literally like FWD automatics
>v1s are manual
>Veeky Forums literally saying auto is better

Troll elsewhere, you luddite

Fuck off gramps

>V1 shills actually think their 10 year old tech is better
Whew lad. Sorry you got taken for $400

>he literally wants his radar detector to communicate over the internet
>he literally wants to be put on the list, and generate evidence on some "database" when speeding

>he pays for radar detectors
Kek, I stole one from some dudes car

>too stupid to realize his phone and likely car too both have GPS

Hope you dont drive with a smartphone in your pocket with a mic always on that the NSA can hack gramps.

Look we get it, you got screwed $400 buying a 10 year old V1. Nobody cares sweetie

>he thinks people pay for radar detectors

Social shit integrated into things is pretty stupid, but when it comes to information sharing for certain electronics, its a godsend.

Radar detectors being one of those electronics.

>>he literally wants to be put on the list, and generate evidence on some "database" when speeding

What is google maps and how does it work?

>he uses android/Google maps
>his car doesn't have navigation
>he can't even afford a Garmin

>He cant afford 4g data
>he has to resort to static map data built into some shitty gps
>Using stock GPS built into a car
>2016

I have a GT-R and I prefer to use google maps on my phone. Problem?

>land of the free

Why the fuck are you faggots all ready to fight each other over radar fucking detectors? I thought this was one of the more mature boards.

I bet you don't seed torrents you fucking monster

>My old cobra

Shit man the one I got a year and a half ago only picks up random automatic bay doors and fucking cops once you're looking at them

fag

>I thought this was one of the more mature boards.

kek

Escort 9500 Ix I always do 80-90 comfy

can these be detected? like a radar detectordetector?
here they are illegal and you will get assblasted in jail.

Hitting the deer won't cost me jack shit because lolgrilleguard. Already hit 2 doing 50ish.

>Veeky Forums
>mature board

He wrote
>Maintain a safe speed for conditions
not
>always go slow

now suck a dick fuccboi

>2016

CHORTLING @ U, ANONZ

Yes, most radar systems used in areas where it is illegal will tell you if someone is using a detector.

They make ones that are "not detectable" but that's still not smart.

>iPhone app/Android app
IT connects to the cloud so when cops are using instant on radar or LIDAR and they hit the guy in front of you, your phone tells the radar detector to announce a "Live radar" or "Live laser" or "live police alert" (someone manually reported a cop that didn't fire radar at them).

>Anti False Positive
Traffic signal detection is a meme (slows down processing) but location versus exact frequency is useful because it automatically locks out door openers at stores, alarm systems, toll booths, etc. that emit the same frequency at the same location constantly.

>escort
the GPS enabled models are great IMO, lock out the false positives and automatically adapt sensitivity by GPS speed. Escort live can be useful if commute on routes where other drivers are using it. Redline gets a nod for top notch off axis detection and Radar detector detector immunity.

the Passport Max (Not max 2) is on sale for $300 at Newegg, which is a steal IMO
slickdeals.net/f/8925683-escort-passport-max-radar-and-laser-detector-299-99-fs-newegg

>cobra
don't fucking bother.

>valentine
super sensitive, not RDD immune, the OBDII plugin shit pales compared to GPS frequency filtering. mike valentine is a meme and apparently his mom (answers the phone when you call) is extremely crabby. I think GPS lockouts are possible now with the YaV1 app hooked up via bluetooth. That being said, I prefer escort/beltronics.

bear in mind that you can still get fucked by instant on radar or laser. common sense prevails, but it's definitely a useful tool to accompany waze and scanning the road.

Yes they make it, most units are detectable nowadays with few exceptions (Escort Redline is undetectable, as is the beltronics counterpart, and the permanent install antennas of both this models [for beltronics it's the STI-R plus antenna]). That being said for non-commercial drivers using a radar detector is only illegal in certain parts of Canada and Virginia/DC so pretty much no cops in the states (except those regions) have RDDs in their patrol cars.

That being said if you do get pulled over, a cop seeing a radar detector pretty much kisses your chance of talking your way out of it goodbye. If the primary reason that you'd get pulled over is speeding though, you are much, much less likely to get pulled over while using one if you aren't an idiot.

>he still uses a car instead of walking to his destination
>2016

Valentine V1 ver. 1.85 and ver. 1.86 are programmable for just that.

Uniden DFR 7
1/2 the price of a max 360 and just as effective (more in range)

every month i have to type a page long thing no.....just no.......you dont even understand how radar works or how its different than laser im not teaching you shit

you faggots should try not speeding

it's called following the law you degenerate fuck

Uhhhhh

There's literally no upside to built in navigation. It's heavy, it breaks, and it tacks on extra dollars to the price of your car.

Using your phone is the superior option. So you really use your satnav? I didn't realize young people still did that.

How are you going to dodge missiles launched at you by ISIS without your trusty radar detector?
