Complete idiot when it comes to cars

>complete idiot when it comes to cars
>buy new wiper blades
>somehow manage to get them on after 20 mins of struggling
>drop car off at mechanic to replace brake pads and rotors because I'm lazy/dumb
>mechanic calls
>"user, did you know you left the guard on the blades? My guy wanted to know what was up."

Kill me now.

Anyone else have retarded auto stories?

Surprised this thread didnt hit post limit in 30 seconds knowing Veeky Forums

>doing timing belt on my car
>everything at TDC but the factory markings don't match
>fug
>just put a new belt and tensioner on like they were

Still occasionally stop to think about the off-chance I fucked something up despite the car running fine

>driving on bald, dry rotted front tires and okay rear tires
>piece of tread eventually just falls off, forcing me to buy 2 new junkyard tires for the front
>junkyard tires are larger
>have the tires mounted on the front wheels
>take all four wheels off and put the new tires on the rear and move the small old rear tires to the front
>car drives significantly better
>several weeks later the car starts shaking when braking and around turns like it did when I was driving on the shitty front tires
>dad says it could be a ball joint
>23:00 coming home from the movies (Zootopia)
>wheel just comes off at 40 MPH
>2 studs sheared off
>walk up and down the road, can't find it
>cop comes out and looks, can't find it either
>get car towed to the repair shop
>$300 later it's fixed
Moral of the story: buy a torque wrench

Moral of the story: use some muscles*

FTFY

I overtorqued the lugs, not undertorqued

>overtourquing wheel nuts
How fucking retarded are you? I understand that's what this thread is about, but that's not something that can really happen by accident. You're a special kind of stupid if this actually happened, but I'm guessing you just didn't put them on tight enough.

It happens more often than you might think, a shop owner fired six employees for overtightening lug nuts and causing the tires to fall off

the chain doesn't know what TDC is, only the cam gear and crank. As long as those are perfectly TDC then you're golden

>guard on the blades
um...what?

wiper blades come with a thing plastic sheath that slides along the rubber blade.
Helps keep the blade from being damaged while shipping/handling

>do a quick look down of my car one day
>see some of the wheel nuts are loose
>well fuck I just took it to my mechanic they should be fine
>getting a little more upset than I should be
>grab my tire iron
>go to the first loose one
>hand tighten it
>apply tire iron
>really torque it
>*CRACK*
>fuck
>it was actually the wheel nut covers
>mfw
Now I have one really shiny wheel nut 24 dark ones

well fuck I have to go look at my wiper blades now.

wtf kind of vehicle has 25 lug nuts?

Unless its 5 bolt and you have a full size spare or something? I'm just confused by the math.

every time I work on the car I am left with a retarded story.

>changing camshafts
>put pulse plate on backwards
>didn't realized i snapped off the cam position sensors because of this
>spent 3 days disassembling and reassembling the head until i finally realized what i did horribly wrong

>changing spark plugs on truck
>think I had removed all of them already
>go to put plug in cyl 8
>meet resistance
>think nothing of it and keep trying to torque the piss out of the plug to get it in
>realize i should check the plug well to see what's going on
>mangled top end of plug and shattered ceramic that I forgot to take out

>changing a customers wiper blade at work
>leave the long metal arm sticking up as I turn around to grab new blades
>hear horrible sound of glass shattering as the arm slams down

were you fired

nah we have an in-house windshield tech and he was able to get a hella good deal on a new windshield for her so the shop just paid for it.

Not even a dime out of my check

Mechanical work is not for everyone, and I fear you are one of them...

jokes on you I work as an auto technician

>DIY terminal connector for when you accidentally snap the original ones bolt in half

>changing rotors/pads and brake fluid
>take left rear caliper off, replace rotor
>suddenly remember that you should bleed the rear right first
>go and replace the rotors/pads on rear right
>begin to bleed line since im already there
>friend pushing pedal as I bleed the nipple
>hear loud pop and gushing sound
>realized in that moment I forgot to put the rear left caliper back in place so the piston shot out

>working on car in the driveway
>have the battery out, forgot specific work i was doing
>sister must leave, im blocking her from backing out of the garage
>put car in neutral and just let it roll down the steep incline of our driveway
>after she leaves, realize I have no way to start the car to get it back up the hill
>commence 30min session of struggling to push the 4000 car up the steep incline driveway
>after nearly being ran over and almost having the car roll back into the house behind us, i suddenly remember I can just walk up to the garage and retrieve the battery.

Damm it

Hue

>change rotors+pads for front brakes
>4 months later passenger side caliper snaps off due to loose guide bolts
>replace, 2 months later snaps again due to self loosening bolts
>let a professional replace it
>bolts are loosening by themselves
>now the caliper is locking on causing the car to make a hard right
taking it to another mechanic now

fucking kill me right?

>recharging A/C
>puncture can with recharger valve thing
>try to connect hose to port
>won't fit so try other port
>nothing, then start to panic
>feel like a retard for puncturing the can first and now can't do anything but release the refrigerant
>stick the can and recharger and can outside the garage with the valve open
>walk away like I don't want anyone to see me
>find out later about R12 and R134a connections
>feel guilty the rest of the day
>retrieve the can the next day and check labels how harmful it is
>"NO OZONE DEPLETION POTENTIAL"

MOTHERFUCKER

>>feel guilty the rest of the day
Why? It's one fucking can.

My bolt pattern is 5x114.3 I just super glued 5 extra lug nuts to my hood incase I ever need them

is that funny maymay?
Veeky Forums moves at a snails pace it fucking annoys me.
its like people intentionally take an hour to refresh the threads.

Wtf you talking about "blade guards"? What fucking brands are you buying? Im at work and i literally went and open a fucking wiper blade to see wtf you talking about and none of them have a guard...

first car, (mitsubishi diamante)
stoner skater kid.
do f+r brake pads
never torqued rear wheel lug nuts after setting it down
wheel almost falls off 2 days later.

never again.
