It depends. Against a host/invader who's defensive, I win on attrition because I have a better and I attack a bit faster than a greatsword would.

Against an aggressive guy, as long as he doesn't use cestus, I'm often fucked up. And if he remembers about rolling attacks, I'm often done for. Otherwise, the spear's long range often gives me the edge. People using pike in PvP are too rare to be a real threat, so I almost always have the iniative.

Ultras that can stagger you without a direct hit can be slightly more painstaking with a spear in contrast to other meta weapons you could use against ultras, but you can hard counter any lone ugs user with a backup thrall axe, and even though spears are "less good" at beating them, spears definitely still have an advantage anyway.

Use a bow and snipe the fuckers or a big fuckoff shield so they hit it and rebound and fall to their death.

I'd say pyromancer, they're my Pet Peeves, but that's because I'm a very passive player. Usually I invade retards who just rush me the moment they see me, so I often try to lure them to a place where I have an advantage.

The only moment it failed was against a pyromancer who used acid cloud on me.
I failed to recognize it and I lost my weapon, and I ended up losing after trying to switch from my Winged Spear to my Spear.
Magic users are also annoying, because there's no shield who perfectly protects from magic, so I'm forced to be aggressive and I'm bad at it.

Spears are really From's biggest sign of how they haven't improved much over the years. You can't do diddly with them.
The weapon arts in particular are really disappointing. No Ricard's style multiple lunges, nothing fancy or cool, just Shield Splitter and Charge, neither of which are even unique to spears.
They even cut the Stance.
Pic related is a little more than half of the beta Ni-Oh spear moveset and doesn't include things like sweeping enemy legs to knock them down, pole vaulting, parrying, more combos.
