I don't think we even know what triggers are in for the bad/true endings, there's a couple dialogue choices in the flashbacks in the interrogation scene that might be it.

Ok guys I got screenshots of the whole Goro/dark knight Goro fight up until his sacrifce. I can read moon but I don't have time to translate now. Here's the lowdown:

Goro had been the one going around turning people into husks or making them go batshit. Then he "solves" those crimes with his detective facade, that's how he got famous.

After beating him first round in his white suit. the nakama tell him to stop fighting, Morgana even says he really likes Joker and wants to join them. He breaks down and starts to yell about how is it that potter who is a "convict trash" is better than he is. He goes batshit and transforms into his dark knight suit, with a new persona Loki.

After beating that, Goro comes back to his senses and admits his crimes and how he faked all his detective cases. He laments that he has nothing Potter has, and each party member start to say that Goro had a lot of talents they really admired as well. Finally they asked if Goro wants to join them in stealing Shidou's heart.

Then, the "Goro" of Shidou's Palace shows up and says Goro is no longer of any use, he was just a puppet for Shidou all along and was meant to be killed later. But Shidou-mind-Goro says he could prove himself if Goro killed Potter, Goro points a gun a Potter, but then shoots the Shidou-mind-Goro instead and shoots a panel at the far end of the room, closing down a wall between himself and Joker.

Goro tells them to go, and his last wish is for them to steal Shidou's heart. Here the Justice arcana ranks to max. Goro then turns around to face the fake-Goro for the last time. The party hears gunshots and Futaba says she can't sense any presence of him anymore.

This feels just dirty and emotionally manipulative. I'm actually find it funny how Goro's sacrifice scene is somewhat similar to Lion Magnus' from Tales of Destiny remake. If you don't know, Lion was a traitor asshole with sympathetic excuse (and Oedipus complex through the roof) in original version of Destiny
but because he was super popular they toned down his asshole tendencies for remake and made his sacrifice more heroic. Considering how Atlus started humanizing Adachi after he got popular they sure were taking notes from Bamco.

That's not really fair since the guy brings all analysis down to his level.

His aims were minuscule and his scheme only seems as airtight as it was because he managed to fool Namatame into thinking he was helping and trick the IT into believing that the Kidnapper and the Killer were the same people.

He just seems like a better villain because he didn't need to jump through that many hoops to get what he wanted. All his predecessors and successors needed to cause a lot more havoc and kill a lot more people (in contrast to Adachi's whopping 2) to keep their plans going.
