and is it worth it to pay the gardener to watch the tree?

bring teles,fally/lumby/ardy/varrock and house if you got the portals, get mage level for fertile soil and yes pay if you plant magic/yew trees, although theyre cheap rn and people are jewing the protection cost.

most trees are not worth paying to protect, like magics/palms are not worth it

I've ranged slayed till 99 on two accounts. That's literally the best way to go about it imo, it's expensive, but, especially now, you'll make enough a task to cover at least 1k balls per task plus additional darts and scales.
99 ranged and 92 slayer first time around, second time 99 ranged and 89 slayer (I also do a lot more mage slayer, which is why my slayer level was lower the second time around)

Keep in mind that is one of the reasons I prefer to use the mumble vs the discord. When you don't know who is in the channel with you is when you are in trouble.

maybe you could set up something simple that's permanent, like a pastebin or a google doc you edit with the date/time of the next trip each time a new date is picked/changed

then you can also have some additional notes if something changes or whatever
