You need a certain mindset and commander setup to Yodo properly. You want to be a spotter once the DDs are dead (because you have a radar that is slightly less powerful than elite'd T6 DDs) and use your TBs mainly to harrass BBs or CAs/CVs with brain problems. Your AA is a no-fly zone, use that to ruin CVs and bully any spotter plane that dares to come near you.
My Yodo setup is Yamamoto, Macmillan, Luckner, Kimura Kazuo and Arnault Shelby. With it I get a decent amount of spotting and disguise to be a decent spotter and Mac helps removing any DD that I find on close quarters. Shelby helps with your (very limited) TBs and Yamamoto's active is fully used by Yodo once you master the art of shooting and TBing at the same time.

It tries but if it can't assemble balanced teams it'll just throw in whatever is closest. so you can get 2BB 1DD vs 2 BB 1 CV or something even stranger. Just depends on what the players available are. Also stacks will mess it up, since they can't be divided. So you can get something like 2 BB 2 DD vs 4 BB or so, if the first team has a division with 2 DDs or so, even if theoretically the MM could make 2 balanced teams with 3 BB 1 DD each.
