Depends on the car. Some need better brakes, some need more bracing, some need cooling, all varies.
Minispool, up the boost, Stockies on the back and E1 Clubsport wheels up front.

Stage 1:
I suggest
1.Begin by cheaking/clearing all your filters.
2.Change your oil.
3.Check their are no major problems with the engine and transmission.
Mods:
1. Change breaks. Dont go fucking super expesive ... by something reasonable, since your not driving a lambo or porche 911.
2. Next get a suspension system that will increase your handling.

Nothing cause a stock VL is rare.
that or Brake wise you could go VN Group A but they need a suitable 16inc rim. That or VT brake kit places offer but that seemed hit and miss when I read about it long ago.

vt brake upgrade (the stock ones are painfully shit the two pot vt brakes on the front will haul this up well especially considering it weighs 300kilos less than a vt)

new box filter if its not too restrictive
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
distributor/rotor
silicone vaccum lines and intake hoses
new injectors/new filters
fuel filter
then any worn suspension components
lastly some nice tires
despite having an ugly front end, au's are known for being mechanically A grade and can withstand whatever you throw at them. The ugly part means you can get them for bargain prices. you also literally can not go wrong with a 4L straight 6.
