Thoughts on the Versys 650 as a first bike? I see some 2008 models for pretty cheap, and my 34" inseam makes a lot of bikes uncomfortable. I have seen videos of how possible it is to accidentally wheelie on a 650, and I've heard the throttle on the Versys is a little touchy which makes me a little nervous. I might still try to test ride one this weekend, asking price is $3500.

Versys and vstrom are basically the same bike. Versys is cheaper on the used market. Kawasaki charges absurd prices for oem replacement parts so more aftermarket options.

Versys is an okay option for a first bike, you can accidently wheelie almost anything if you don't know what your doing. Do not suddenly chop the throttle and go wot in 2nd gear like a fucking lunatic and you will not wheelie.

It's like an sv650. okay for novices but treat with all due respect. It is not as forgiving of mistakes like a thumper or 250cc bike is.

More slack in the chain is better. Always err on the loose side in your owners manual.

My first, only, and current baik was a $1200 seca II shitbaik that had been treated like absolute garbage. As I learned more about taking care of the thing I realized he was full of shit. I was eventually able to nurse her back to life and she's going strong now, thankfully.

The first time I cleaned the chain on that thing is when I learned the chain was not supposed to be black.
