The playerbase expects you to play as such. But it doesn't really matter. SCH and SMN share exp, so even if you don't intend to play SCH in the endgame, you could abuse their quick queues while leveling and switch to SMN whenever you feel like it.

i was mostly memeing, but scholar's the most uniquely suited healer to just sitting in cleric stance 99% of the time, especially in dungeons.
it gets a little rougher later on in the heavensward dungeons but by and large while leveling, if things are going well, you can expect to spend most of your time in cleric stance maintaining DOTs and spamming ruin. you will basically be an SMN with fewer damage dealing oGCDs and a pet that doesn't do any DPS. occasionally you might have to drop out of cleric and toss a physick or adloquium, or heal the idiot DPS doing idiot DPS things, but eos and selene will cover a great deal of the actual healing pre-50.
