The story quests are notorious for being mostly fetch quests which you described, but only before the expansion.
And yes, the story has story arcs so it has beginnings and ends, which you can complete in under 70 hours.

The songs are mostly worthless aside from two.
You don't do a whole lot other than drop two dots on a target and make sure those don't go away.
