No, cows do it automatically but it's a tiny amount. and half the time it doesn't appear in the workbench. Just make it yourself or buy shipments every few days if you're some chump who won't just install the mods.

Also it sometimes has general stability improvements and other QoL improvements, depending on the game.
In Skyrim SKSE implemented some really useful memory fixes, allowed higher-resolution tintmasks, and cleared some Papyrus junk from orphaned scripts, among a few other things.

Eh, I just use Cheat Terminal for Materials. I don't need a legit or even semi-legit way of getting them. lol.

If you put away your weapon they'll revert. They might also become hostile again if you haven't given them a command in awhile. Sucks if you want to try a non-lethal run.
