It's fairly common in my city to see seacan haulers buy these trucks for local deliveries. Those drivers scare the ever living shit out of me. constantly running red lights, going down inner city hills at 80km, having the shittiest maintenance possible.

Even if you go to one of the smaller, shitty companies, you could apply at places like WM as soon as you see openings too. It will look good if you are already working in the same industry even if you don't have a ton of experience. Otherwise there are all the local delivery jobs. Some are straight truck, some tractor trailer.

I just got off the phone with a SWIFT recruiter who sounded nice and i just so happen to at least have a year on my regular DL(which they want) so if not for more pressing financial concerns(i have nothing and i'm 9k usd in debt from trucking school) i'll do my best with swift until my debt is paid off and i have a year's experience with them then i move on to someone else.

My plan has always been to go with whoever will hire me first and with my class c being so recently new(i've had it since last sept) the only one who seems good(an oxymoron i'm aware) is SWIFT as their requirement is lower than werner transport's.

So the closest thing to a plan is to get with them when i graduate this november working at swift for a year to gain the experience necessary as well as pay my debt down as fast as possible then research into getting a job with waste management or a better trucking company. My baseline is to follow the money although i hope i'm not as careless as a certain tripfag was in this thread...

Also my situation is not something i'm proud of, just being in poverty for 10+ years sleeping on the floors of two bedroom apartments and having shitty luck getting hired anywhere for the lack of skills/employment history. All i want is money and a shitty car is that too much to ask for?

Just means you'll have to learn. Trucks are unsynchronized anyway so you'd basically have to re-learn everything, even if you had driven a stick before.

Nah, it usually easier for people who haven't driven stick to drive a truck since you don't have the habits of a manual car driver i.e. pressing the clutch once going to different gears.

Even if that's an option, don't. Just bungle through stickshift driving as best you can. You don't have to be "good at it" to just get the truck rolling and stopped. You're not gonna fail any test just because you lurch and grind gears.

I never drove stick before I started. In a way they say it's better that way, less bad habits to unlearn. But shifting was also somewhat difficult for me to learn too because I was just not comfortable having to focus on that as well as watching the road, trailer, all the mirrors, and all the other stuff, shifting just seemed overwhelming on top of all that. But I made it, I drive a 10 speed Manuel, I love driving stick, and would be severely butthurt if they gave me an automatic now. It isn't hard, just takes practice.

Idk, there was this dude who was totally retarded and got canned from Pepsi within a couple weeks just for being a dumb kid. Like a week later I saw him in one of those straight trucks with the claw on the back, and he was saying the pay is something like that. It's all Haitians and hood ass nigs who drive those trucks and kinda sketchy. But it's easy enough and still better than retail.
