when your general 404s on Veeky Forums of all boards with not even 200 posts, you know it's time to stop

no
memecar 4 lyfe m8
fite me fgt

And I'd guess the last two threads lacked interest due to that one closetfag user successfully shitting them up with "lol gay/girl car xDDD".
>not even 200 posts
>Last thread: 195 posts
CLOSE ENOUGH.
>Implying there aren't at least two other generals with less posts right now
>Not wanting a containment thread
It's like you want miats posted in other threads or something.

...

(you)'re late

You mean every single general and daily thread on here

>mom look I posted it again I am le so epic as /b/ would call me (/b/ is my super secret club)

>live in a town where everyone has practical cars
>drive around in a miat

>have to buy new tires
>have to change timing belt
>have to fix leaky roof

time to buy a new car

Here is the deal guys. The car makes a low wub wub wub noise whenever i am driving at any speed. It only stops when i have pressed the clutch.
What needs to be replaced? After a hour or so of driving it gets really tiresome. I just want to hear the engine and the tire noise.

I have a 97 miata and some flying miata coilovers at home. I'm at a job where I'm making a bit more money.

I want to turn the car into a nice street performance/autocross car. Should I just keep the fm coilovers or upgrade to something else?

>any of those things being an actual problem other than timing belt

Lots of na miatas have that problem. Theres is no exact awnser, could be alot of things look it up on the miata forums theyll be more helpful

i upgraded my wiper stalk to a RX-8 one with the variable intermittent function. so my wipers are now POWERED BY RENESISĀ®.

that is all.

>tfw blow your apex seals because you didn't wipe to the top of the wipe range

Put together a nice bilstein set

Roadster-chan is such a cutie

Turns out the misfiring was a bad fuel injector. That said, I guess I should invest in a multimeter and l2gitgud rather than just keep throwing parts at my car because I'm incompetent as fuck lmao.
>Replaced driver side front turn signal for the fifth time this year so far (think it keeps going out because the bulb housing is heat warped)
>Need to rebuild shifter (still)
>Transmission leaking muh precious MT-90
>Engine still chugging oil, so guess the rear main seal needs replaced too
>Replaced shocks 3-4 weeks ago
>Took too long to replace shocks, been driving with too much camber for months and didn't realize it so now my tires are bald on the inside and showing some wire
>Want to get Potenza RE-71Rs
>Bridgestone store says they don't have it and to get from TireRack
>More expensive because shipping to Hawaii
>Wasted $400 trying to figure out why my car was misfiring because I can't into diagnosing shit so now RE-71Rs are kinda out of my budget now anyway
>Have to get an alignment from a shop in order to pass inspection and make my car completely legal again
>Did timing belt and water pump about two months ago
>Changed out both clutch cylinders four months ago and had to bleed it twice
>Replaced battery five months ago
>Replaced soft top like three years ago
>Can't figure out why my brakes SUCK even with new Hawk HPS pads, probably going to take it to a shop
Feels on wheels, my man. Replacing the top is a fucking bitch - expect to spend all day and perhaps a second the first time. Can be done in 6-8 hours if you do it often enough.
Turn down the dubstep breh. Nah have you found any videos that sound like the noise you're experiencing? Frequency/pitch doesn't change with speed? I've never heard anything like what you described; only screeching/grinding noises from three other Miatas and each time it was a bad throwout bearing.

Shifter rebuild is super worth it man. Also there are lots of good cheaper alternatives to the RE-71Rs.

Sorry you're having such a rough time with your miat

Just got my mishimoto radiator and low temp thermostat now just need the fan shroud and put it all in when i do the timing belt/ water pump. Cant wait to do it, sounds like fun. Gonna clean my lifters too, anybody got any experience/ tips with that? Ive heard it can be a bitch to put the camshafts back in. After i do put them in will i be able just put it all back and time it or will i need to adjust the camshafts?

I have been meaning to buy a Koyo or Mishi radiator soon, any reason you went with Mishimoto?

I have to do thermostat, timing belt, water pump, and poly bushings on all control arms before October 1 so I can head out to Miatas at Mazda Raceway.

Don't know anyone who installed Koyo radiators in their Miatas, but the three people (two NBs, one NA) I know who went with Mishimoto all had fitment issues - one of them (has an NA) really had to cram it in, scratching up paint. So with that, I plan on going Koyo. Hopefully I won't regret it.

You will have fitment issues if you use the stock fan shroud and a have athicker than oem sway bars which is why im getting the fan shroud

I went with the mishimoto cause mossmiata had the free shipping thats the only reason

fuck, i've noticed that sometimes my left headlight won't pop up on my NA, but the right one works as intended. not sure whats going on

I live in San Diego and move to Phx next week..taking my daily until it's not so hot out to bring my Miat since I have no AC because racecar.

>paying double for a logo on your radiator

Why you do dis?

No one in that image has roll bars...

I'm sponsored by Mishi so....discount bitch!

It was like fucking 90 in Poway today

It was 100...on my fucking porch in La Mesa.

New starter arrived.
Timing gear, woodruf and bolt, too. Waiting on harmonic.

WOBBLE B GONE.

Bought my car in NZ summer, which while not obscenely hot, is almost always 100% humidity.
I never thought heat was a problem. I never read about it. Just worried I wouldn't fit, or the cost of hardtop repairs. There's a giant ball of hot sitting in the A/C (which is out of gas) and the firewall seems to be made out of glass, as far as heat radiating into the cabin is concerned. They're so fucking hot, but the top down does nothing.

Direzza ZII's, so not a huge shitmobile.

>All those NA's without their lights popped
The fuck.

>timing belt is a problem
Not with a 4ft crank bolt breaker bar it isn't.

C'mon son the speeddaddy is $140 less for the same thing but I hope you got a good discount player keep representin.

Driving with your lights flipped up during the day makes your shit look broken.

Nigga I drive everywhere, any time of the day with my lights blaring their shitty old busted warm-white sparkle.

Mishimoto is fucking trash. I havnt seen one product for any car I've owned that isn't cheaply made unreliable shit with fitment issues. Save your money and get something better.

That's funny, I actually replaced mine on Monday.

I got a CSF, $255 bucks shipped, highly recommended. Inexpensive, fits the stock fan even with a thick Flyin Miata sway bar up front, and the install was a breeze. It just dropped right in after moving some of the mounting stuff over.

what the fuck is going on, i've replaced mine about 3 weeks ago

50mm core, made by ching chongs, however already proven to be a great radiator so i didn't hesitate
200$ so pretty damn cheap for something that works no worse than radiators made by il motorsports

>92
>LSD
>125000 miles
>timing belt/water pump replaced at 70000
>no stock parts included with sale
>roof leaks only when it downpours
>vibration at 70+mph

Im not a fan of the wheels nor white headlight housing thing. Guy wants $3700 obo for it. Would an offer of $3200 be too low? What do you guys think?

depending on where you live 3000$ would be too high

also keep in mind that lsd in pre 93 are vlsd, they aren't exactly the greatest
though i've seen some guys actually using them on a track and kicking ass so make your own judgement

It's possible he swapped in a torsen

...

What engine oil do you use and how often do you change it?

thx breh - and what would you recommend as a cheaper alternative? I love my RE-11s but their time's nearing. Yeah, I've heard that; don't care how clanky/rough my shifter is 2bh, got used to it years ago. It's one reason why I keep putting it off. I was pretty set on the RE-71Rs, but extra $160 to ship from TireRack... fug. IDK, I still might do it. It was that or Ventus R-S3s, Proxes R1Rs, or the cheapest of the bunch; g-Force Sport COMP-2s. Not sure how the COMP-2s compare to the g-Force Rivals. Local autoxfam said the g-Force Rivals grip more than the RE-11s in dry but have traction in the wet. There was another kinda-negative thing they said too but can't remember. RIP. If I hadn't missed my last club meet, I was going to ask their opinions on what tires to get next. I'd hate to put some cheap junk on my 6ULs but I might have to. Though I got my 6ULs cheap af and they kinda look junk so I can't really bitch about that kek.
I should've specified - the fitment issue is the radiators themselves. I guess they were made just a hair too wide. I was around for two of the installations; a friend's NA8 and my dad's NB2. But yeah I'm aware of those issues as well.
>Tfw never get free shipping anywhere because Hawaii
>Pay $500 for Hard Dog roll bar
>Pay 'bout tree-fiddy more just to ship it
w h e w

Speaking of w h e w, after driving more, that new injector made a noticeable difference. I guess it's what caused the pinging I've been experiencing for a little over a year. And I guess it was also the source of the burning smell I've been wondering about for the last month. Don't have to use as much throttle anymore; Jesus Christ it doesn't even feel like I'm driving the same car after that and muh coilovers.
ikr, shameful display.
>Driving with your lights flipped up during the day makes your shit look KAWAII, niggaaa~
Fix'd.

Guise... WAT TYRE IZ GUD?

Best tires are used ones that you burn all the tread off when doing donuts.

How possible would it be to transplant this VVT head onto my stock NA1? I'm planning on doing an engine rebuild this fall anyway, and if I could get some VVT out of it that'd be top.

norfolk.craigslist.org/pts/5734009835.html

>Guise... WAT TYRE IZ GUD?
What size wheels do you have?

Saaaaaaaaaauce.
Also guess I'll add this dumb question as well... if it isn't apparent, IDK how to fix up muh paint and make it nice and glossy either. How am I supposed to make my front bumper look gud? It's the most oxidized and "flat" area of my car. Am I supposed to spray a layer of clear over it? Or could I just buff it some more and then wax? It used to be worse; did buff it by hand last year. M-maybe I'll just check miats forums for an answer but Veeky Forumspinions are welcome anyway.
>"Just rub it down with brake fluid bro"
Also just noticed I messed up part of that post:
>Local autoxfam said the g-Force Rivals grip more than the RE-11s in dry but have LESS traction in the wet
Mobil 1 10W-30. My dad had an old oil testing device and it held up just as well as the Asmoil he compared it to, so yeah. Tried Royal Purple before - shit sucks. Caused the annoying HLA tick. I rack up ~1330 miles a month and change the oil every 2-3 months. Even after I replaced the crank and cam seals and valve cover gasket, my engine's still chugging oil like a motherfucker but I'm not seeing a leak anymore - so I guess the rear main seal really does need replaced as well.
15x8s, m8. Got 195/50R15 RE-11s on them and they're fucking BASED. Not sure if getting 205s next would be worth it. Considering I haven't hit up the tooj or autocrossed in like a year, probably isn't worth it. But I want to hit up the tooj and would like to get back into autocross... so IDK.

Well, your NA miata has no way to run the VVT, since the ecu and wiring harness were never made to accept it.

If you have a 1.8 motor the head you can easily swap over is a 99-00 miata head. It does bolt up and will increase power slightly due to bigger cams and better flow.

Underrated post

>195's on 15x8's
kek
205 or 225 would be proper depending on the tire.

I recommend either Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec in 205/50
or
Hankook Ventus RS-3 V2, or Kumho Ecsta V720 in 225/45

These three tires would be around $450 for a set of four. There are better more expensive ones in the $500-$600 rang though. Go to tirerack and look at the measured tread width of the tires. You want something that has a tread with the same or slightly less than your wheel width.

motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/ID/3974/How-to-PROPERLY-select-and-size-TIRES-for-PERFORMANCE.aspx

who /oemfilter/ here?

Anyone regret a purchase for their mx5?

I regret getting my S. Drives in 235 width

The car tramlines bad with stiff suspension on shitty road surfaces which is a majority of the auto x in Florida

The tires themselves are OK but I'm looking forward to some 215/ 45 in 200 treadwear

>brother crashes his meeyager

comedy gold

>All these radiator posts

Shiiiit, got mine coming on Friday. Old one was overheating like crazy during the heat last weak. And throwing rust in the coolant. So I bought the Yonaka off of Amazon for cheap and free shipping.

...

I enjoyed that reply. I'll now remember to religiously wipe at max speed for 10 minutes every time i reach my destination before turning the car off.

There aren't many other NC owners here but i wonder if there's other RX8 shit that can be swapped across since they share the same platform

>tfw no Miata qt3.14

Must be nice. It's been over 110 here on the east coast for the past 2 weeks. And they said global warming was a meme. It's supposed to dip back down to our normal 92-95 degree weather at the end of the week.

I only have experience with my g force rivals so I can't really give a comparison but I like them

Also dude the rebuild kit is super worth it. I have a brass bushing in mine and it's pretty great

Don't talk to me about "hot". Both my Miata and I almost died because of the heat last weekend.

>90 out with 90% humidity
>Weatherman says "feels like 105"
>8 hour road trip in my NA with no AC
>Hour 6, temp gauge starts rising to 75%
>Turn heat on blast to keep it at 60%
>Start sweating buckets
>Hour 7, hit standstill traffic
>Takes an hour to move a mile
>Temp gauge is at 75%... with heat on full blast
>Run out of water to drink
>Start to get heat exhaustion with mild shock
>Another 30 minutes in traffic before I can pull off the highway
>Spend an hour in a CVS parking lot chugging water and running the radiator fun
>Rainstorm comes through and I sit in the middle of a parking lot letting myself get soaked to cool down

And that's why I'm putting a new radiator in tomorrow. Still need to fix my AC, though - stupid manual steering pulley is off by 1/8 inch.

Are the miata forum sites the best bet for finding an LSD at a reasonable price? Ebay seems high and I feel like I'll get jewed if I go to a junkyard.

muh shitbox

iktf senpai
>had to drive 3 hours to replace machines in a old as fuck nurseing home
>place had no fucking AC
>had to drive 3 hours back

>LIFTER TICK IS FUCKING TICKING AT MY SOUL AS I TURN TO DUST FROM THIS FUCKING HEAT GOD DAMMIT
>take top back up and immediately put it down due to NO AIR

>almost fucking died when a soccermom fucking sees my autistic fat ass dying in this gay death trap, throws a cold waterbottle at my car
>drink it with such desperation, dont even care about embarrassment at this point

and that's when I learned to always take suburb routes

>Not taking a break in some shade
>Trusting the temp gauge's accuracy
Why did you torment you and your car?
>No third brake light on trunk lid
NEAT. I guess I never noticed that before if that's a factory lid.

yeah no trunk light on poverty uk spec

how do you guys feel about miata vs the bmw z3?
how much you compare them?
could the z3 be modified to be more miata-like and visa versa?

oh and specifically the NB miata, not talking about the na

>100+ for the past I don't even remember how long here in Vegas.
>work outside running all day
>when it dips to 90 it feels like 70 used to before I moved here
>have AC in miat but the stupid bubble vent things are loose so constantly have to readjust them to face me
>AC is mandatory to avoid death
>this kills the gas mileage
>this kills the energy bill at home

On the plus side, at a certain point my hot lifter tick stopped. It makes no sense to me as it stopped as we reached peak heat but whatever.

My NA1 is making a massive sound that sounds like tire rubbing, but i'm on stock height. Is there any common noise like this? It happens a lot while driving.

What about the engine?

We don't.

Buy an aftermarket AC unit like vintage air

What does /mg/ think of quilted interiors or custom dash clusters ?

Tacky as fuck

>little bit of water on windshield, wipe quickly then turn it off
>wipers flood

>have to premix wiper fluid

I regret getting cheap tires, buying narrow wheels because they were cheap, and maybe even not getting a hardtop instead of my blue canvas soft top.
14x6.5 BMW Basketweaves from an E30 (look sick on their own but previous owner pulled the fuck out of the fenders so it looks like it has bolt on fender flares)
and General Altimax AT43s in 195/60/14. So mushy, but tire rack gave them like a 9.7 in traction and I believed them, it feels like a Buick now)

was meant for

Can I fit in a miata being 6'3" 220?

if anything a narrower wheel it should make the car feel more snappy
though maybe the tire ratio is too high

if you had 15" wheels and 195/50/15 tires it would probably feel much better

if we are talking NA, 16" wheels are too much in my opinion, not only they look kinda shit but the ride becomes too hard, especially if you have sport suspension installed
i've been through that, switched to 15/6'5 wheels without looking back

nice stuff but holy shit, the prices are insane
can look extremely good if you won't go overboard

for example, that custom cluster you posted is way too tacky, if you want a metal faceplate look at what jass performance offers

stock for stock
>z3 looks way cooler
>z3 handles worse
>z3 has less steering feel
>z3 is quieter
>z3 is faster and feels faster too
>z3 is comfier

i don't feel like it's a good comparison since the z3 is more of a GT stock and 2900lbs, needs coilovers

those wheels are fine. You need to change tires asap though.
185/55/14 Yokohoma S.Drive
185/60/14 Dunlop Direzza ZII
195/60/14 Falken Azenis
Any of those will vastly improve your ride and grip.

Also NEVER go by tire rack rating. Those are consumer surveys that don't mean shit.

But none of those can beat 4 for $270 shipped

>$270 shipped
and thats why your tires are garbage. The Yoko's are only $314.04 plus shipping from Tirerack.

HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO HAVE SEX IN A MIATA

Honestly tho, I was looking for a Cherokee or some midsize SUV for road tripping/road fucking purposes. Ended up with a vehicle so low to the ground I can feel rocks on my ass, and barely large enough for two people.

I have not one regret.

On a serious note, how can I confirm my suspicions that this thing has been drop kitted without jacking it up and peeping underneath? It's a '95.

>if anything a narrower wheel it should make the car feel more snappy
Wider wheels make the car more responsive. Narrower wheels make it more floaty.

drop the roof and prop her up on the driver seat facing the back
just look up "sex in convertible", but it'll almost always require dropping the rood

With her facing the back, or me? If I could find a darkened parking lot or something that'd be pretty hot.

please read this before sprouting retarded theories without any basis

carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg3.html

...

I'm 6'3" 180, so length wise yeah, and Matt Farah fits and he's pretty wide so I guess so.

How to tell if it's been lowered? Just look under the ass of the car

Pic related are the r package Bilsteins I used to have

What cleaner should I use?

turns out it can be (and has been) done. it's kind of cool but i don't think i want a renesis powered miats, there's a reason why there are so many cheap as fuck RX-8s around here

2002, ticking noise when on idle from startup and increases with revs sometimes goes when warmed up. Am I right in thiking that this is the lifters and will need to have the valves shimmed or something?

Goddamn that's a lot of room. I'm tempted to do a 13b swap in my NA in a few years. But I'd like to see a production mount kit first.

>had money coming in i was going to use to buy a miata
